on the subject of Guilds..Follow

I'll take a moment to ask forgiveness.. I've done some research but honestly I'm still drawing a blank, so I figure I'd ask people who may know.

firstly I never played EQ1, my first MMO was FFXI, which doesn't have guilds.. 2nd was SWG.. in which one character was guilded and honestly that didn't mean anything other than a suffix by my name, I mean.. they never *did* anything.. so due to lack of experience I'll ask this:

What is the point of a guild?

I know, vague amorphous downright bad question, but I've yet to be able to find the answer on my own. Most of the websites I've visited to read up on a few guilds come across as almost militant, which is an immediate turn off. What happened to enjoying the game content and the company of others?

2nd question..

I've heard that you really don't want to join a guild that advertises in /ooc.. but how else will you know they exist in game let alone on your server without some type of in-game notification? Granted the Everquest2 main site has a list of the top guilds... but what about the others? Am I missing something by not being guilded?

anywho, thanks for reading. Comments are appreciated.

To answer your first question read this:

As far as the second goes, its up to you. A lot of times people using /ooc for recruiting is for a newly formed guild. Guilds with their acts together have webpages set up for recruiting.

My advice to you is to go HERE and select your server. This will categorize the tops guilds on your server. Click on their webpages abd view either people to talk to or guild joining requirments. This is probably the best way to do it.

Remember, this game is only about a month old. Joining a guild should not be too much of a problem.

Really the best way to decide on a guild you're interested in joining is through your interactions with guilded people as you play your character. If you find that people from guild X have been really good to play with, consider asking one of them how you might go about applying to join them.

*EDIT* The first (EQ1) guild I ever joined I found from an /ooc recruitment drive, and it was a great guild. The rest of my guilding experiences were found from friends in the game in those guilds I eventually joined.
