If they can lock out others from Kill stealing, why cant they also lock out people trying to Harvest steal? I mean, when I see that someone is harvesting a rock of ore, I back off because I hate when someone comes up behind me and takes my last harvest knowing that that could have been my next level up. That is just RUDE! If I have the curtsey to leave yours alone why cant you have the curtesy to leave mine alone? You cant miss someone bending over searching through an herb garden....grrr. I'm just saying...courtesy people curtesy. One more time from the top...curtesy! I've said my peace...thanx for listening to my first rant since EQ2's launch.

I have deduced your problem:

You're looking for courtesy in a MMORPG. Stop it. It will drive you nuts.

If there is something I need I harvest npnp.
There is no such thing as KSing nods or else they would have been locked encounters. free for all is what goes.

Even though this is in the main thread on this topic, I think it bears repeating here.

Just because the game lets you do something, doesn't automatically make it right. In EQ1, there was no encounter lockout, but KSing was still not acceptable. Originally, it caused people to put you on ignore lists and such, and later, after SOE(then Verant) established the Play Nice Policy, outlawing KSing even though the game would let you do it.

Yes, nodes are unlocked, but if you see someone harvesting, you should find a different resource. If someone does harvest something you are on, just drop a hint and keep in mind that they may not have the harvesting animation turned on.

This is in response to ffreak's condescending post.

I'm really tired of people getting all bent out of shape because someone posts something that was already discussed a month ago. Everyone has the right to have their say. Some people are just joining the game or forum and don't have the time to read every friggin post on this forum since page 1.

New people are joining the game and forum everyday, and maybe the newer people want to have a new discussion about it. You do have the abilitly to ignore threads that don't interest you by the way.

It's good that you referred him to the related post, but there's no need to be a condescending jerk about it.

Hey buddy, I wasn't being condescending. What part of no offense didn't you get? I was simply pointing out that the thread I linked was like 3 threads under this one at the time. How lazy do you have to be to not even look at the first page of threads?

I didn't get all bent out of shape either. I apparently worked a nerve with you though. BTW everyone is new to this game. It hasn't even been out a month yet. Some of us have no problem finding answers to our questions. Go figure.

EDIT: If you think I am being condescending here, don't ever post in The Asylum! They will eat you alive.

You only say "no offense" before you are about to offend someone. For example, "no offense, but I think you're an idiot." If you were really trying to be civil, you wouldn't need to preface it with "no offense". Your emoticon was condescending. Also you implied that he was reviving a topic that YOU are no longer interested in discussing.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. People post here for many reasons. Some want questions answered. Others just want to rant because it can be cathartic. The OP just wanted to express his opinions. I guess you can't help belittling people.

Thank you for that tip.

BTW, I'm not interested in getting into a flame war with you. So if you respond to this post, you'll have the last word.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. I am glad to know that there are posters out there that know what I am thinking when I post and can explain them to me. Really I mean you have it all figured out. What I implied and what I meant from what I said.

Where do you see the word idiot in there? Didn't think so, but continue to make an *** out of yourself, I insist.

I mean I didn't get bent out of shape but you did. Just because you go to a site like dictionary.com and use a big word like cathartic doesn't make you any less of a dumbass. If I didn't want to help the poster I could have just rated down his post and continue on like all the other balless wonders on this site that do that. I took the time to show the OP the original thread and told them to at least look at the first page before posting a redundant thread again in the future. Here is a big word for you lathargic. Look it up. Thats what I am trying to prevent on this site, lathargic posters.

Thank you for that tip.
You want another tip? Get your head out of your *** long enough to see the whole picture next time before you fly off the handle. I was in no way derrogatory towards the OP. If you stopped assuming what everyone else was thinking or doing this world would be a better place.

I don't really care what you think of me. I help people whether you agree with my methods or not. If you think you can do a better job then beat me to the post. Otherwise don't try to be all high and mighty with your ideals and views because last time I checked this wasn't your site.Smiley: tongue

Saying something has been beat to death just adds to the pile. It won't stop a thing. It was nice however to add the links. And obviously Sonnette cares enough to respond, whether it's in agreement or not.

Before I start my post I will state that I do not harvest from nodes currently being harvested by other players if I can avoid it (i.e. there was one time a guy was farther back behind a tree trying to avoid aggro - and I did take one hit from the node without meaning too).

My reasons for this is I understand many people don't like it and would rather not burn my bridges, not necessarily because I think doing it is the wrong course of action. Also much of my time is spent in antonica and I rarely run across people at my nodes anyways.

All that said, I don't personally care if people harvest from the node I harvest from.

Let take this quote and look at it a different way. Your on your way home and stop at a McDonalds. They have 3 apple pies left. There are other people who want those apple pies too behind you. You could just take all three apple pies because you got there first, or you could share.

Now, if you did take all three apple pies, and you stop at the next mcdonalds on the way you could buy them out of pies just cause you got there first.

The moral of this is that we are not necessarily creating the most courteous of guidelines here when we are stating that harvesting from someone else's node is rude.

To be completely honest all of these people screaming about this reminds me of the old Daffy Duck/Bugs Bunny cartoon where they find some treasure and Daffy just keeps yelling "mine, mine, all mine"

The first problem is people keep assuming that all three harvest from one node should be treated as singular object. Since nodes are random spawns, you really can't camp them - so we'll use EQ 1 as an example with random mobs.

If you were a newbie character in EQ1 and you were trying to find "item X" to finish your newbie armor and you saw three mobs in the same general area, you would start to fight one.

Now if someone came up and attacked the one you were attacking - that would be KSing. in EQ2 they cannot do that - you are always going to have your chance with that one mob.

The other two are fair game - unless your fast enough someone else may come in and attack those two mobs.

Perhaps the easiest answer to this whole problem would be to make all nodes a single harvest - in this way they would constantly be rotating, and then it would be locked in to the one player and everyone's happy - no harvest stealing and everything is fair.

Heres is how it is:

The harvesting nodes are ffa for now. Therefore they are open to ANYONE. There is no sense in complaining about it. There is enough nodes even in the noob zones to gather enough material for your crafting needs. I will harvest if I see a patch to harvest. If others join me, then fine.

Here is Your Solutions:

- Goto another instance of a zone if your frustrated.
- Pretty much ALL of the noob harvesting materials go for 1cp in the broker. So if your harvesting noob materials to use for tradeskills and you are frustrated, goto the broker, buy a stack of something for 1cp each, its NOT that much.

Also note: Antonica is so big that you can harvest alone without any competition.

Get use to it, and stop whining. If they decide to change the harvesting mechanics then they will, otherwise its the way it is for now.

Another way to get over is to not craft at all if its making ya mad. You can make just as much money from killing blue conned mobs over and over soloing.

Well, if your real hungry and you see three sandwiches laying all alone in the woods, then you see someone run up and start eating one, would you also step up and start eating one of the 2 remaining sandwishes?
I would np.

When EQ2 was brand new and you harvested from a node someone was allready harvesting from people sometimes got pissed and you got a tell 'WTF are you doing *******'..
I allways answered '/giggle'..
Now that was fun, I can imagine them getting all red in the face.. :p
Nowadays, noone cares since it is something everyone does, well almost.
Anyways, I rarly go up and start harvesting from something someone allready is harvesting on nowadays since most of the time you wont even get one thing so its a waste of time.
It was diffrent before when you actually had to have 40 in skills to be in antonica.

Think of it more like a buffet. It was put out for all of us to enjoy and partake of. Just because you found the potato salad doesn't mean the whole bowl was for you alone.

Or the grocery store. Great...you found the ceral aisle. Don't jump all over the lady grabbing a box of the same type of cereal you picked.

Hey, has anybody made a point of saying that EQ2 isn't EQ1 in these forums yet? Just wondering, cuz I was thinking of starting a post...
