Started an alt and picked Artisan -- planned to use for tradeskills exclusively. But in going out to gather stuff and killing things in the way, I see I am still getting XP as a priest. So the question is: what is the difference (and point) in picking artisan over adventurer?

no difference. your character has 2 separate levelling systems built into it. one for artisan, one for adventurer. you can level both of them at any pace you wish. my main right now is a 23 Templar/14 Outfitter. I adventure a little, then go into the shop and tradeskill a bit.

The rumor is:

The one you pick, you will gain xp faster for.

I have no idea if it's true or not, and I highly doubt it's true.. (even if it was, it would have very little impact, imo).

It affects the level of tasks that you get from the Wholesaler in your tradeskill society.

I thought the task you receive from your whole saler is based on you Adventure lvl not Tradeskill. I was a lvl 3 artisan and a 17 crusader when I started trade skill and had to spend many hours uping my mining skill, becuase any task givin to me, was for tier 2 (Antonica/Commonlands) harvesting items.

I then made a new character and went to the wholesaler as a lvl5 scout and 3 artisan and was then given tier 1 items to collect for wholeseller.

So Im almost 100% sure wholesaler task are directly related to your Adventurer lvl, not tradeskill.

EDIT: I also tried this same thing as a adventure and artisan with same result.
