Let people talkFollow

It happens in every MMO. There will always be person-types who can't stand other person-types. And it's usually much worse on the forums, where many come to complain.
If you can't learn some tolerance, learn to ignore. We learned this in elementary school.
Sure, you may hate it every time someone voices an ignorant political opinion, or brags about something stupid. Don't group with that person.
It's just like real life: I may hate the KKK, but if I want the right to march down the street proclaiming my own controversial viewpoints, then I will allow them the same right. Of course, I'm free to disagree, and let them know it! I'm also free to ignore them. But I won't silence them, and nor should anyone else.

Some people are annoying. Some people are stupid. It's partly a good thing, partly a bad thing, and wholly a necessary thing: virtual reality will inherit many traits from actual reality. A virtual reality with enough real people interacting, will inherit all those things that suck about people interacting in the real world.

At the same time, in an ideal world, KKK members *won't* march down any streets, and people will not shout their rants in every chat channel and forum. So go ahead and hope and wish -- but don't expect it. SOE has placed limits on the freedom of speech (e.g. blatant racism), as they should; but don't expect anything short of that line to be a stopping point for ***holes.

It's just that I notice far too often that someone will say something stupid in EQ, and then someone will come here and whine about it. Or someone will say something stupid in the forum, and everyone will get so angry and argue back and forth and take the forum post way off topic. Don't respond by saying that these people shouldn't be *allowed* to say such things; ignore them if you must.

Sorry, I think I just ranted about rants. And I just told people to shut up about telling people to shut up. Wow.
Feel free to ignore this post or disagree, as I said... ;)

Well I think your post definitely qualifies as a rant. What good really does it do to tell other people what to do or not in a post or a game? Will they listen, probably not. Give them a POV, an alternate idea, something to mull over and perhaps use.

Calling SOE one of the dreaded "ism" words is sickening and absurd. It's just as absurb as me calling you a postist because you mangle post.

Any ism or ist effect is pretty much watered down and worthless nowadays.

Where did this come from? The FFXI players ranting? Who cares?

Agreed. This is a constant debate I've heard on my server.

One camp says: use tells instead of OOC. Another says: Just turn OOC off if you don't like it.

You get the idea. At any rate I agree with you.

He's just asking for more tolerance on all sides. Considering the current climate in this forum in particular, it's something we would all do well to consider.
