I think you are delibrately trying to sabotage your forum rating :) Honestly, if you are looking for people to rate you down, and not this pitiful nuking you are getting here, post that on the EQ1 forum.

I've played both games and that review is dead on target. The review at least, but not the ratings. I'd rate both games 4 out of 4, each appealing to a different subset of the gaming audience.

Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed reading it.

Sorry, I thought this was a math thread and ruined my calculator. I did the eq2=2//wow=4: and came up with the square root of tail chasing.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Dec 03 2004 at 11:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't care about a forum rating, thats always bias between forum posting buddys anyway, i'm getting across a point and its a good one.

Except for, ya know...that they are two totally different games, practically in different genres?

I vote Half Life better then Grand Theft Auto! Go play Half Life even though its totally and no where near anything like the other game we are comparing it too!

WOW = Hack And Slash type. Not to mention this is pretty much one person's opinion on the paper. I know people that have played both games and say the exact opposite. Say "WOW is too childish, EQ has more of a mature theme with steady gameplay."

Not to mention the whole comment about like "EQ2 involves you to actually have to talk to people to try to figure out quest, which can be too vague." This alone says how either stupid, or incompetent the author of that article is, cause if anything, you are lead around by the nose in EQ2 and told Exactly what to do.

If there's ever one thing you never do, that's trust a Detroit Free Press videogame review.

Having been a resident of Detroit for 23 years of my 23 and a half years of life, I can safely say that their reviewers are..well, they're usually high, i think. Let's just say they aren't qualified to rate games, let alone..anything :) Especially cars.

With that said, I noticed it was stated in this thread that WoW had 500,000 subscriptions. If you base that on what the article said, thats not true. This is what the article says:

Quote:
A free test of the program drew more than 500,000 people in less than two days.

I believe that free test was the open beta. Certainly wasn't retail :)

EDIT - Another thing to note is neither game's current subscription numbers really matter at this point. It's when those 30 day free trials are converted to pay-subscriptions that count.

Lol it WAS the open beta...look if you wanted to commit rating suicide you shoulda got ahold of me, Im a nice guy and I woulda rated all your posts down on the forum for free. Then you wouldnt have had to post this ignorantly titled thread.

I like both games. They dont share a whole lot in common and thats why I think comparing the 2 is rather dumb. Play which ever you like best and leave this s*** off BOTH of these games forums.

Has anyone noticed that people who haven't played either WoW or EQ2 defend either of them like they are living off of kick backs from Sony or Blizzard?

Opinions are opinions. Buy em, play em, love em or hate em.

Sweet, so what you're trying to say is, even though I like playing EQ2 I should not like it and quit and play WoW? Just what I needed another prick telling me what I should and should not like. Sir please die and go to hell right this moment.

Here's a clip from the article.

""World" has the clear edge here. While "EQ II" goes the extra mile by having every quest actually spoken aloud by an actor -- a mammoth accomplishment that makes the game feel more real -- the quests themselves seemed a bit pedestrian. I've been impressed with how much fun the designers of "World" had creating quests, and I've laughed aloud -- a lot -- at some of the better ones."

Not asking for ratings hits here - just want to know how others feel about this jab at eq2's quests - agree or disagree (esp. about the pedestrian part). Thx all.

just what I wanted to read, an article from someone who played about 2 hours of each game and decided to base her opinion of them around that. Lazy people should not be allowed to write reviews.

The one ***** up she did make was leaving both her phone number and her email address, because I have a few things to discuss with her
#13 Dec 05 2004 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
In "World," for instance, characters that can send your character out on quests have bright yellow exclamation points over their heads. "EQ II" requires you to talk to characters at random to discover who gives quests: No you don't, just one of the examples of a writer who hasn't really played a game yet criticizes it immensely.

The pedestrian part of the EQ II quests can be true, especially since it usually involves so much zoning that my computer goes down a lot faster.

I have played both and have to say that EQ2 is far better. WOW is way to easy at the begining and offers no challege up to level 15 i'd say. Also lack of quest and quest spawns makes it difficult for the solo person. Plus knowing people working on EQ2 i cansy that there is much more to come. Where can they go with WOW?

To add who cares how many people went on to try the beta. Thats just it "BETA". Sure alot of people tried it out but how many jumped into real release and to quote from above post "how many will stay once ya gotta pay.

In my opinion WOW should be on a consule system. It's too Mario, Fable, and FF.

ok for one get your own opinions (whoever made this thread lol).. and here are a few points you should consider

1) the writer of the article played "world" for 9 months and "EQ II" for like one day... i dont know about you guys but *cough* biast *coubh*

2) this is obviously ONE persons opinion and definatly not the majority of players opinions.. go read a EQII players rating on EQII vs WoW.. you will see a HUGE difference in their opinions

3) like other people mentioned above, play both games and rate them your self, then you wont have to worry about not playing the game thats right for you..
