Ok Im sure you all are gettin sick of people askin you questions outside of EQ2. But...FFXI has been my first MMORPG and I am having fun but only really cause of my friends. Anyway..I may be in the market for a change. Ive read a ton of stuff bout this game and read previous posts about FFXI players comin over and never lookin back. I was wonderin if there is anyway to try this game b4 making a purchasing commitment of 50 bucks plus account fee? If you can give me any other reasons to play or stay feel free to let me know. Sorry for the FFXI Sig.

As far as getting the game for free, you might try having a friend loan you his/her CDs and install it. That way you won't have to buy the game. You need to set up a station.com ID. You do get a 30 day free trial as well. Other than that unless you play it, its really hard to sway you one way or another. This game is something that you have to experience to make judgement.

This wont work because you need to have the activation key to start the subscription.. your best bet is see if a friend of yours would let you create a character on his/her account and play around with it for a couple of days (if you can get them to quit playing to let you decide) or just watch.. im a FFXI vet and to tell you the truth EQII is better IMHO. (allthough from what i've heard Square is finally taking action towards getting rid of gil farmers and putting a stop to IGE's Gil selling).

Last peice of advies is buy it try it out.. if you dont like it see if some one else would like to take your account for the cost of the game. (not totally legal but that way your not out your 50 bucks)

I noticed your job level in your signature, and to me you have yet to get to the meat of the game which is level 60 plus. If you are still having fun, no reason to throw away your level 54 Monk *Monks are my favorite job class, period* before you hit true eliteness =P

However, to be honest, FFXI can't hold a candle to EQ2 in any aspect as far as I can tell. You get better music, graphics, more character custimization, the ability to solo whenever, quests that are worth doing for new and better armor, weapons, experience, etc.

If it's a change you want for the better, then yes make the change to EQ2. If friends is your main concern, then make them join the Evercrack side! Otherwise you are bound to make tons of new and great pals here in Norrath.

Hope that helps. =)

If at all possible, I would recommending testing the game past level 12 if you can get the chance. The IoR is a ton of fun, and the ton of quests in Qeynos levelled me quickly to level 12, but then the game subtly changed. And, I think it is in the nature of MMORPGs to be repetative at higher levels, no matter which game you go to. That being said, I am one who left FFXI to wait for EQ2 and WoW and I will never go back to FFXI again! (and I left even before the gil-botting problems were common discussion on message boards).

if your coming from FFXI YOU MUST KNOW THESE THINGS:

1) YOU DONT NEED GODLY ITEMS TO BE "NORMAL" IN THIS GAME

2) YOU DONT NEED A FULL GROUP OF ALMOST THE SAME JOBS EVERY SINGLE TIME TO BE SUCCESSFUL... SOME OF THE "BEST" GROUPS I HAVE BEEN IN ARE ONLY 2 OR 3 PEOPLE!!!!!!

p.s. if you bring these things into EQII i will make it a personal life goal to hunt you down in teh game and make it the worst experience youve ever had because your ruining the game for other players..

p.p.s. spread the word and keep these things out of eqII!!!!

p.p.p.s hehe forgive me for using caps up top.. i just had to get teh memssage thru.. and proly noone will even read this

KRAZIEDActually Sony sent out a 7 day trial key yesterday for people that havent tried the game. The only problem is you need someone with the game to install it and then you enter the trial key. I wont be usingm ine as everyone I know is already playing. So if you want to try something new and you know someone with the game Id be happy to give you my trial key as a former FFXI player to another ;)

This is just MHO, but I thought after about lvl 60 in FFXI, that is when the fun stopped! lol

Most MMOs, at least to me, get very un-fun very quick when you hit the true grind. I am not one to play these games just so I can be elite. I play them to see new things, explore, meet new people, and have fun getting new spells/skills when I level. When you reach upper levels, you have basically seen the whole game, so there is no where to explore any more, you are probably in a static party, or in a high level Link shell (like a guild) since it can be very hard to put together a high level pick-up group, and that is mostly when you meet people. Also, you will not have much more leveling to do, so not many new spells and skills to play with.

That is why I changed games. I'm sure the time will come again with EQ2, but it is very fun for now^^
