Someone mentioned at the start of FFXI when it first came out it was fun. It really was fun then, because.... well, to put it plainly everyone was n00b and no one cared if you were a war/whm or a mnk/blm. I was a war/mnk (underleveled sub :P ) with a Great Sword, and my spouse played a Rdm/War that was my back up voker in Qufim. Smiley: lol And we had great fun then. It was still an adventure.

Then suddenly we...and everyone else...changed. You had to have the perfect sub, you were supposed to be a particular race for every job (not quite as frowned on as having the wrong sub, but still debated) you had to get the perfect party and chain 5's all the time and have the best gear or you were gimpy.

That was not fun.

The only part I miss right now is my LS. I had great friends on that LS (Whispering Wind) and I really miss them... but... I'm not going to go back to FFXI. I'm trying to convince them to come play EQ2 with us. Smiley: grin

I am still currently playing FFXI, well not really playing it, i hardly play it once a week now.

Anyways, thinking about switching to this game, actually im pretty sure of it, i'm just trying to get some of my good friends from that game to switch over too, because they are the only ones that are really keeping playing that game at this time, it's just to damn boring.

I really do hope that EQ2 never turns to how FFXI is, FFXI is just so stupid now, ever level you're expected to get the best gear, and since i don't know a great way of making it, it takes forever, and i dont have that much time, like i said, i can maybe play 2 hours a day if i'm REALLY lucky. If not then i ussually dont play at all.

Do what Hoek and I did, convince the whole LS to jump ship to EQ2! Everyone but 3-4 ppl all came over and are much happier because of it.

They won't :( They are very high lvl, many of them...and very much into FFXI and play for 12 hours a day. I mentioned it once and they were like <_<;;; no.

I think it's because a lot of them have heard of EQ1 getting a bed rep for some reason. A lot are hard core anime fans, and some are at end game now and I guess enjoying it. I really wish they'd have switched with me though.

I played FFXI from NA PC release until June this year. I might have gone back at some point this fall while waiting for EQ2 and WoW to release; however, SE's brilliant idea of wiping characters/accounts after 3 months means I will never go back. I left because my fiancee could never get his Pally AF completed, and because I was starting to feel the need to grind for gil, and I woke up and realized "why am I doing work disguised as a game and paying for it??" I just hope EQ2 doesn't end up feeling the same way for me.

Oh, I was on the Pandemonium server, 60 RDM/39 BLM; 53 BRD/45 WHM, 26 SMN with all avatars except Fenrir, all the other jobs somewhere between 10 and 21, full AF for both RDM and BRD (god I miss my RDM hat) and had finally got my Dark Staff... the gil-grinding for the Dark Staff is what finally did me in with the game :(

I'm a FFXI vet myself from Diabolos. I bought EQ2 to see if I was really missing anything....graphics aside, I'm not. Within 2 days I wasn't really interested anymore. It's a good game, even though it's ripped off all the good things from FFXI, EQ1 and DAOC to make a mishmash of cool things.

I'm still playing it here and there, but I double click FFXI every night when I come home from work.

I begin FFXI at the US ps2 release , i reach 68 and after i got enough money for a Pc ( 2 week ago ) i quit FFXI and join EQ2 . at higher lvl FFXI is more like a work than a game and after i quit i sell my 2 million gil to Chinesse Gil Farmer who ruin this game economy . Also japanesse had 1 years of advance and got all the nice gear and know all the game already . It suck when u begin a mmorpg and people already know and did all the stuff of the game .

^_^ I'm a FFXI vet. Started the day of NA release :D CaitSith Server ( Hence the CaitSithKitty). I really like EQ2. I sorta miss my friends on FFXI but I quit for matters unrelated to EQ2. I've made some friends and I've found people to be (in general comparison) a lot more friendly and helpful. It's easier to make money and things. I think pt setup in ffxi was a bit better though. I realize they're similar but I just really like how little space pt window took in ffxi in comparison. I plan on staying with EQ2 though. The crafting is much much much better, as are the graphics, music, general game play (IMO). :D

lol >.> I was a drg/thf .. Almost every party I got in.. they would say: "Got war sub?" ... -.-;;; so I'd be like .. whos in the pt? and they would say ohh "drk/war drk/war thf/nin nin/war whm/blm".. and I'd bet 1k gil that I would outdmg the drks .. so I'd always get free mithkabobs :-D (hehehehe penta >.> hehehehehehe)(like in ballista penta the lil taru blm.. hehehehe)

Anyway yeah I'm a FFXI vet.. from Pandimonium.. USAchan ls (the most famousest of all pink hobbits.. ehh I mean link shells) member :-D.. but none of those guys would come to eq2.. ;(.. haha I still have thier website its http://www.sinisterpenguin.com/FFXI/

FFXI Vet checkin' in ... lv. 51 mithra pld on leviathan.

I miss my buds from FFXI, but I'm not gonna quit EQ2. :) I've got my mithra replacement. The thing is, my LS died, people were recruited into other LS's, others quit, and I was one of the few that stayed. It got really lonely really quick, even before the PS2 release. So ... now, I'm just going to solo for a while w/o a guild to belong to. Besides, haven't really figured out all that party thing anyways. Things die too quickly before you can set up anything like FFXI where somebody vokes, thf SATA's off pld, pld does provoke-flash-cure3 combo, etc. etc. To tell you the truth, I kinda miss the rythm of those party fights. Got a long ways to go before that tho, still trying to level up my gathering skill on the island on my Mith- err. Kerra

FFXI well dunno if I classify as a vet.. highest job was 36th WHM after a year+. Yeah I level slowly.. I would farm literally every 5 levels for weeks at a stretch to afford the next level in spells and armor.. as a result, my WHM was only lacking 3 spells (one of which was erase) and had armor for her level...

and it was fun.. but I wanted to solo after several bad parties... so I took up BST which was fun but honestly I'm a mage or thief player.. and don't get me started on THF.. that job is HELL on earth in FFXI.

Course jumping into SWG didn't help my FFXI career 'cause I could solo in SWG which made it fun til the gaping hole that is a near total lack of content became apparent.

so with EQ2 my desire to solo when I want combined with my desire to play a mage or rogue has found a home... only reason I log into FFXI now is to find a few LS members to give back a few things they let me borrow.. once that's done it'll be dropped never to return.

My FFXI story is sad . . . well, not really.

I was pretty much just starting to enjoy FFXI a couple weeks ago when BAM! My laptop that I played on got stole'd. Needless to say I had to cancel my account and for ***** and giggles I had everything go byebye. I miss my linkshell and all the other cool people on Odin . . . but I was still young. 33WAR 25MNK 17DRG and various other jobs at various other levels.

My online gaming started with Everquest and carried on with the beta tests of many games. I jumped from EQ to DAoC which was perdy gewd but still had something missing . . . so I jumped back to EQ and then started playing XI last Christmas. I'd probably still be playing it right now if I still had my laptop. But ah well, things happen for a reason. I was in the open beta for WoW and just found that it really wasn't for me. So I'm placing all my hopes and dreams in EQ2 - returning to the land where I first came from. I'm partial to Norrath and I look forward to my return come Christmas day.

The one thing that was bad about FFXI was the severe lack of roleplaying, and as some players have mentioned, the terrible 1337 attitude. Now I love to be "1337" so that's no problem but I am definitely CRAVING some roleplaying. Yay for roleplay preferred servers!

Anyways, I played Ildrael on the Odin server. You can find my pic at www.ffxiplayers.com. Good times, good times indeed.

Rest in piece, you sexy man-Hume, you. */salutes*

Ive been playing FFxi since early november 75 whm 69 nin 57 rng 54 blm 46 thf. and all i can say is bye bye FFxi hello EQ2. FFxi was my first MMO so i thought it was awesome. But after 2 weeks of EQ2 i thought FFxi is really not the game for me anymore. Im more of a causal gamer namer and honestly sometimes i just dont feel like being around people. And EQ2 can offer taht to me so far. Dont need to wait around pointlessly for PTs and such to get anything done. Making money in game is not a job although i do hate the player merchant system which i think is just terrible. But FFxi was fun and i dont regret one minute of playing it , it just not my type of game anymore although i do miss my LS friends and they wont come play EQ2 cause they playing WoW.

I guess I qualify as a vet. Over a year of play with 110+ days of playtime (no bazaar time). I was Viperpendragon on Alexander and lvled 63pld/50thf/42whm/42smn/37war/33sam/18blm others ranged from 5-10. I had a blast and enjoyed the game. I had just gotten to the point where things were looking good when my LS guys started leaving. I have to admit I swore I would not leave FFXI but in the end 60+ just started to drag. I didn't enjoy the longer xp sessions ( mainly because my friends were gone).
Schedules were a problem with my brother (the reason I started MMORPGs) having to log at 10-11est I had hours to kill and not being able to solo anything just sucked. EQ II gives me the flexability that when he logs I can run around and harvest and solo the odd aggro. We are on blackburrow 13pred/14Scholar Viperpendragon by name. :)

I played FFXI for about 2 months, and quit as a 55PLD/30WAR. It was a decent MMORPG, much better than most out there (and i've tried them ALL), but it lacked so many things:

1) Variety of character creations (especially avatar).
2) Variety of mobs (a single zone of EQ/EQ2 probably contained more models than all of FFXI... at level 10 i was fighting lizards... and then the same ones at 20, then the same ones at 30, then the same ones at 40, etc etc).
3) Equipment variety. Again, if you made a specific level, i can almost guarantee what you had to have or would have. This was true till at least 60.
4) Level spread allowed to group at higher lvls. Literally after 40, you RARELY saw groups with more than a 2-3 lvl spread... and when we were creating groups, we tried to get everybody the same level. Even one somebody dings while you're all the same lvl, your experience just went down by like 30%. It was absurd.
5) Needing to farm every so often just so you can play normally. Money in this game was ridiculously hard to come by, and every 5 days of playing, i would have to spend a day or two just farming no-exp mobs just so i could afford the food and stuff needed for normal experiencing.

It was a good looking game, but at the expense of variety. The best thing about the game was the skillchains without a doubt... and how important food was in the game.

I played on Asura for a little, quit the game right before EQ2 release. Kinda missing it..well missing the people I played with. I played a Hume female named Santi (lvl 50 whm/25 blm. I'm not to sure if I am going to stay in EQ2 or go back to FFXI. All I know is if I do go back to XI I will be starting from scratch and hopefully on a new server.
