Harvesting Rare items... luck or skill?Follow

#1 Dec 02 2004 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
my harvesting skill are all over 100. but still can get any rare harvesting items from Tier 1 zone. so far I only got 1 Coal from Commonland. And I was at lvl 50 mining.

I am not sure if you need high lvl skill or high lvl luck. pray before you mine.

My guess would be luck as I've harvest well into the thousands upon thousands and all skills are over or near 100, and I have yet to harvest 1 rare of any type. But SOE might just hate me too.

I don't know about luck or skills, I so far found 1 coral and 2 blackened iron in antonica, I think my skills were around 70.

It's totally random. Note, though, that "rare" in EQ2 means about 100 times less likely than "rare" in EQ1. Personally? Between beta and live EQ2, I've harvested thousands of items and never gotten a single rare. :(

I wish I remembered where I read this (eq2crafters.com maybe), but I remember seeing info that rares were harvested roughly 1 in 2000 attempts. Gotta love those odds (if true or even close), eh?

At least in the lower ranges, I haven't noticed any increase in sucess vs skill.

for those of you where in FF11 long enough probably knows the name of the day do effect fishing/other tradeskill items gathering. I think they put the similar system in EQ 2. when you /time, it shows something like "Windday" "Soulday" etc. they're the names of monday, tuesday in the game. I think they do effect your harvesting but still need times to figure it out.
