Quasi-poll: most soloable classFollow

#1 Dec 01 2004 at 10:05 PM Rating: Decent
What do you think is the *most* soloable class, and why?
#2 Dec 01 2004 at 10:31 PM Rating: Decent
I couldn't say the most soloable class but I play conjuror and I'm pretty good at it. I can take on solo labeled monsters that are dark orange and have had luck a couple times killing green group labeled monsters. I won't boast that I'm the best because I just haven't played the other classes :)

I'd see a Wizard or a Warlock being good at solo'ing. Especially a Wizard. But really, all the classes are soloable. That's the beauty of EQ2 :)

Assassins IMO. I know people who can take on most anything, but still, lvl 15-16+ Solo'ing for exp isn't really benificial (But I would say you can level faster with quests at that level anyways).

As a cleric I can take out orange solo mobs, yellow ones... double arrow blue mobs (sometimes this is...eh, not a good idea though) and always green arrow mobs. Cleric's are pretty damned good at solo'ing.... providing we have MP. Without it...we're toast.

I play a cleric and am going to have to say we are damn good at it. I can solo just about any mob orange and below that is solo and group encounters up to blue. I have once taken on a yellow group encounter and lived, but I think that was luck since the blues are usually pretty rough. The ability to heal ourselves in mid combat without changing targets is invaluable!

So far from the classes I've worked on I found I solo best with cleric. That heal comes in big sometimes, especially if you have the upgrades from apprentice I.

Still need to try a mage class, but I have done the other 3 so far.

So far I'm finding fury very soloable, I can easily take many orange solo encounters, and have taken blue double-up arrow mobs. I used to solo off of green double-up arrow mobs to level - they gave 2.5% xp EACH.

Regens give me finer control over my health.

Damage shields damage my enemies very power efficiently, especially in multi-enemy encounters.

DoTs cause additional damage with even more power efficiency.

Lion form gives me the ability to proc a special 'maul' attack that hits roughly the same as my melee from 1 to 4 additional times as well as raising HP, Power, and AC a ton.

Still, I'm not sure how I perform compared to OTHER classes. Also, equipment and player skill will always effect soloing ability. There's no real way to tell concretely who is best so far, only theories.

How do other classes solo? Do wizards and melee classes have extra tricks other than outright killing the enemy before they die?

I've tried soloing with a scout and it's fun so far, even though I'm only L7. I like being able to open with ambush, then stun the enemy and sneak attack them from behind.

I would have to say the Priest classes have it easiest. Simply out live the enemies POWER bar and you win.

I just Regrowth and Bloom as necessary until the enemy has no more POWER moves and then its over. I can survive a blue double chevron enemy's POWER bar with more than half my POWER still intact. At this point just Regrowth and wittle away until it drops.

The only problem are caster classes that can Silence. Without Bloom as backup to Regrowth I'm toast. I don't have the damage capabilities to quickly kill casters so they will freely nuke me. They tend to be tougher even though they have less health. If the enemy caster does not have Silence I will wipe the floor with him once his POWER is depleted. Casters will sometimes get me below 50% POWER. At this point it takes me longer to kill them through melee alone (save POWER for Regrowth) and my Nettleshield.

I once fought 10 grouped green undead (2 sets) and 1 solo magi and had more than 25% POWER left. I also have soloed 2 Solo orange Griffawns in the Steppes and never was in danger of dying. Although they interrupt, you can still sneak in a heal between hits. Just don't queue spells while attempting to cast the heal.

I have no idea how it is for the other Priest classes with reactive heals and wards. I have heard of Shamans killing blues while taking zero damage.

i play a brawler alomost to bruiser now and i hear the power increase is substasial. so far i can take groups of 3 blue np and an occasional single blue ++
the FD skill comes in handy and i only die when grouped with other players who train half the zone on us. i must sya i havent had the opp to play many classes yet but as i see no reason to swith up i doubt i will

Im a 25 inquisitor, just got to enchanted lands where the mobs are all 33+. I was soloing lvl 37 wolves with no problems, used 4 bubbles of blue. The lvl 33 mobs use 3 bubbles of blue. I do have the adept 1 of one of my 2 DoTs so that helps a bit, but still, a 25 soloing a 37.... /em Hides from the nerf monster.

I love my inquisitor, i can play as a healer or DPS

Druids. Regen + DS in this game is insane.

I play a Defiler and I can solo quite well too. Ward + Wailing Haze+HO's.

I can't hold a candle to my friend's druid though. He was soloing level 23 Antelope in TS at level 16.

Yeah, I play a scout myself, but the priest class's especially clerics seem to be the best solo'ers out there... Which is good, the more attractive the class, the more people will play it, and the more healers there will be LFG when they get bored of soloing.

I find solo easy as a chanty :)

I don't think that this game is set up for any class to be able to solo very well. It seems that they all have significant downsides with regard to soloing. If I had to vote I would say cleric would probably be the best only because they can keep themselves alive longer.

Templar / Inquisitor - Especially if the mob is undead.

As a brawler I can take one yellow solo followed by one more yellow solo, was killing Behemoth monitors in Commonlands but after a yellow and yellow fight I had less then 1/4 power So I had to rest. As bruiser I got a coll self heal abilty, might be able to take on yellow ++ or even orange now... but rather not try cus I dont like to die. Perhaps when I get play dead and upgrade it to adept or higher I'll mess with oranges, but the risk of death is a bit much right now so I'd rather not.

I would have to agree however that the clerics and druids got begtter solo abilty... but dun know how fast their fights are, for I know SOE coulda just balanced everything out, and while priest can kill tougher mobs slowly, fighters Scouts and Mages can kill weaker mobs fast for the same exp.

Cleric most definately. Even if I'm low on power, provided the mob doesn't hit TOO hard, I can usually melee away at the mob and regular power regen during battle is enough to keep an indirect heal on me when i get low health plus the occasional rebuke to lower the mobs AC.

as a level 23 Templar, I have regularly taken down groups of 3 or 4 level 18 (green) highwaymen...one of them being a ^. blue ^^ are doable but risky. I can take on the entire forest ruins zone with no issues if the mobs would all run far enough to get in one place...i've definately pulled the entire upper castle and taken everything down never dropping below 80% health...just for fun ;)

Well, I seem to be equally bad at all of them, so I don't know if thats my inherent non-ability or age.

I do like the way taunt has a little range. Definitely makes my meleeing funner. (is funner a word?)

I have to agree with those who have said cleric. As a veteran EQ cleric, the fact that I could solo effectively was VERY hard to get used to.

The ability to cast a reactive heal before the fight even begins (meaning I get healed repeatedly as the mob does damage for a set amount of times) makes a big difference, as does debuffs to strength and AC as well as buffs to my health and other helpful stats.

The secret, of course, is using Heroic Opportunities. I can easily solo yellows (usually walking away from the fight with most of my health and never having to heal myself once due to the reactive heal) and most of my power. I haven't tried oranges yet (fear mostly) but I have taken down double arrow blues before (although some are too tough).

If clerics had chain (root), we'd be a force to be reckoned with at soloing.

I've played most every subclass in the game so far, and the easiest one for me to solo is the Mystic. The combination of wards, dots and direct dmg, not to mention being able to heal yourself is almost invaluable in a solo situation. A Mystic with an average set-up can take on orange con mobs and win, and with a really good set-up it's possible to take on low red cons.

The hardest I've found to solo is a monk. Sure, you survive more fights because of FD, but it's really hard to solo anything higher than even, and not even that once you get in tier 3 and higher zones

>IF< my pet can keep aggro, my Summoner can solo effectively. I'm not going to say that I can handle ojs or yellows (frankly, I can't find any at 19 aboveground but I'm not sure the risk versus reward would be worth it if I could) but I have handled ^ and ^^ blues easily and blue and ^ or ^^ outdoors greens fairly easily.

However, if I overnuke and the mob leaves my pet and comes after me, I'm toast. The pet cannot taunt an attacker off me ( a real drawback) and I don't nuke hard or fast enough to overcome the insane melee damage that many mobs seem to inflict (^green solos hitting for 40 while my App3 nuke hits for 30-ish).

I'm told that things change once you hit 20 and become a Necro but, right now, either my pet needs to be beefed up somewhat or my nukes/dots need to be made higher damage. That's of course assuming that SoE wants classes to be able to solo.....
