Paladin soloability etc.Follow

How are pallies doing with soloing? How about healing/buffing themselves? Are they a better pick than templar if I want to be a soloable, self-healing, self-buffing fighter? I'm either going to have to augment the healing ability of a paladin, or the defense/damage of a templar. Which would you recommend?

Well I can tell you that my Human Crusader has died 11 times whereas my Wood Elf Predator has only died twice, and one time it was very very close.

The Crusader-class is a solid class, don't get me wrong, but I think that Scouts are better Soloers than Fighters. Fighters are slower and while their weapons are more deadly stat-wise, the speed that Scouts have (especially with dual-wielding) is incredible.

Plus.

Stealth-based attacks to open up combat give you a huge advantage from the start. :)

Now a point to be made FOR Fighter-archetypes is their Heroic Opportunity is better than a Scouts in terms that it does some pretty nice damage.

I dont know about that....I tried a predetor (made it to level 10 then was erased) and it lacked in the soloing area (12 deaths). On the other hand my crusader (lvl 17 atm) can solo almost anything under the sun with only downtime being if i drain my power. I can also dispatch a group or single encounter fairly quickly. Ive only died 4 times with my crusader and all were my fault (under estimating encounters). It is all play style and build (equipment, etc.) in the end though. Both can solo (ive watched scouts solo and they do fine...just not mine) so its all in preference.

(Dont try to argue that Im wrong.....this is my solo exclusive character so trust me I know how well it solos.) 8)

As for pallys...dunno, Id have to betray to find out.....I may but Im not sure if I want an Sk or pally.....

No you have a good point.

My Crusader didn't have any adept-level skills whereas my Predator has an adept Quick Strike.

Ah that does make a world of difference....also crusaders start getting group dmg spells, single spells, and divine dmg proc. They shape up after lvls 10 or 12. My pred lacked the offensive capabilities in a face to face fight that my crusader has (I like slobber-knockers) though the back attacks did turn the tables in your favor early. Also...I hated theyre HO....absolutely hated...

All in all Im a head on fighter opposed to the sneaky style of the scouts...I just dont mesh with the scout I guess, ashame to I wanted an Assassin. 8(

Well, I have a 14 crusader, and NO healing spells at all yet. Other than that, she does wonderful at soloing, or grouping. Scout is only level 7 atm, so cant really compare.

I am really hoping that crusader gets healing spells soon...

Pallys get healing. Sks I think are more diseased based skills. Need someone with these classes to clarify exactly who gets what.

Paladins get a heal spell at 22 or 23 i cant remember which but i do not use it while soloing. It does not heal for much and my power is better served for damage as the faster the mob gos down the less damage i take. We also get a 50hp self buff that lasts for 3 minutes we can cast right befor encounter.

Gear makes a huge differance for sure. Im equipped with the Ian quested armor ( all 6 peices ) and have player made jewlery that is still yellow to me at 24 and i still run out of power on some solo mobs, depending on the mob and the color. Exp is very slow on the mobs i can take down comfortably.

I usually 2 box with a Cleric and dont really do much soloing as the exp is not worth the downtime between battles. We are tanks and need to be tanking groups. Usually by the time we can solo any given mob the reward to risk is not that great which means not much exp. However, the loot is never shared and the higher end zone solo mobs have a chance to drop nice quests that you dont have to lotto on but the drops are rare.

Using the ward spell we get at 14ish and our solo HO, I have been able to reliably take down yellow and orange con mobs in Thundering Steppes, and have occasionally taken down a blue++ group mob. That said, I see us as being at the very least as viable as any other class at soloing. Now, however TS is starting to get green and blue, and I have yet to find another place to test out soloablility at slightly higher levels.
