About to buy this mobo/cpu combo...Follow

#1 Dec 01 2004 at 5:45 PM Rating: Decent
I'm about to buy the first item on the list here:

http://24x7pc.com/mbintel3000.htm

Is there anything I should know before I get it? I'm a bit concerned because I've never heard of ASRock.

Thanks

In terms of the mobo's system specs, it looks good. However, I have not heard of ASRock too so Im not sure of its track record.

Here's a link to their official homepage if you want to dig deeper:

If you are upgrading the mobo and CPU, make sure your current power supply has the correct connectors. The newer P4-ready motherboards have a different power connector than the previous models.

On the ASRock site, I was just looking through an FAQ or something and found this:

Can old style power supply be used for ASRock's Intel platform Motherboards ?

Instead of using the new Intel specified 4-pin connector, ASRock MB still uses the 20-pin power connector. With this implementation, consumers who are migrating from the old computer still can choose to use their old power supply instead of going out to purchase a new one.

So as for power supply it seems good to go. However, I am planning on upgrading my current 160w power supply to something in the 400's in about a month. Would I be able to plug the new supply into this mobo?

Yes. Just make sure the power supply you buy has the 20-pin connector (If you are really set on buying the ASrock MB).

Fear no more, they make a 20 to 24pin connector.
