Ummm...

Well...

It's really too much to explain in one post. Your best bet is to go to EQ2players.com and just start reading. When you have more specific questions that aren't answered there, come back and ask them here.

Being nice: it's a Good Thing (tm).

the fact that you even considered etiquette means that you are halfway there :).

the only real hard rule on that is ... be nice :).

other things:

dont be mean or cocky. it's counterproductive in every way imaginable, and will get you onto ignore lists in no time at all.

don't go into any situation thinking that you're all that and more. if you have information that someone else could use, don't belittle the other person for not knowing.

don't assume that people are doing things that you don't like on purpose without stopping to think about why they may be doing it. i've had several occasions where someone didn't realize that what they were doing was not good, and i sent a /tell and asked if s/he knew about "this way" to do something, and was thanked for letting that person know.

if there's a player that you think you can help, and you have a minute, do it, even if it just means sending a quick tell. my scout was on the isle of refuge wandering aimlessly, and i noticed a mage blasting away at things and totally ignoring the treasure chest drops. instead of looting them for myself, i sent him a tell that asked if he knew there were usually nice items in them. he had no idea, and said that this was his first mmorpg and he appreciated me being nice about it and stuff. while i did desparately need the cash to support my nasty tradeskilling habit, looting them without checking, since he had obviously been the one that got the drop, would have been discourteous. someday, he'll help someone else, i hope, and possibly because someone helped him.

other than that, just stop and think once in awhile. some people don't do that enough :).

oh *that* :).

it's got elements of a lot of games worked in. i've not played swg, but i can say that it's quite different when compared to WoW, and has similarities to EQ and CoH.

not sure what your point of reference is, exactly, so that makes it harder to answer. what have you played before?

if i give a general answer it's guaranteed to be way verbose and way TMI ;).
