Ok, here's my situation. I currently am running EQ2 with this system:

Athlon XP 2500+
GeForce4 TI-4600
512 MB of PQI Turbo series ram - latency 2-2-2-5

I'm looking to buy one (1) upgrade for my computer; either the RAM or the graphics card.

Here is the ram I'd like to buy.

Here is the graphics card I was thinking about buying.

Which would increase performance the most? From all I've heard, performance skyrockets at 1 Gig of ram. However, I'm worried that my graphics card is too old to even take advantage of that performance boost, so in that case, I'm wondering if it would be more advantageous to go with the graphics card.

At any rate, I'm planning on upgrading both, it's just I'm not sure which to do first, since it may be a while till I can afford the second.

Go with http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/ati/r480/ for your video card (if you can afford it) and 1 gig ram. You will notice your performace go through the roof.

I am noticing that my 9800 is now becoming obsolete, not because of the games or its old age but because the new video cards just blow it away. I am looking into buying the X800 or X850. I may just do that on the way home from work.

i think they would improve the game in different ways.

more ram would make the game maybe go a bit smoother, with less load times or crashes.

video card would just make the game look a lot better and better fps.

they both look solid... I think you'll see a good boost from the ram initially.. you have a TI grade video card so I suspect it'll be good for a while longer.

I have the exact same Graphics card, and got meself 2 gigs of RAM. My comp's performance skyrocketed. I play with toon graphics maxed and everything else at medium, with no shadows. If I try to up the graphics any more I start to get lag, but thats due entirly to the GC. So depending on what you'd rather have, I say go with the RAM because it does up perfomance. I'm not sure whethor or not the GC will help with performance, but you'd be able to take advantage of a more beautiful game.

If you can deal with the way the game looks on the TI-4600, you would benefit most from the extra ram. I can't stress enough how much difference 1GB makes in all games over 512MB. Not only will it take alot of the chop away, but it will also speed up load times between zones. However your graphics card needs to be replaced bad too in my opinion. But if you can only do 1 now, I would go for ram.

Buy more ram! Buy more ram! Buy more ram! Buy more ram!

EQ is a ram eater. dont border upgrade your graphic card.

I am using P4 2.4GHz, GForce 4 Ti4200 128MB, 768MB Ram. I got "Acceptable" lag. I mean when there are 20+ ppls casting spells in front of me, I got slow motion. I got almost no lag in a zone with 50+ ppls.

Of couse, I didnt load anything except firewall while playing.
