So, I am sure some of you will hate me for this post, as I assume you will take it the wrong way of course! But please, if you are agitated by it for some reason than feel free to..not reply =)

Sooooo I have a computer on the way for christmas..

I was planning to beef the video card and ram up but I am the type who will find themselves with a big variance in play time. Some weeks I could get in 24 hours if I wanted and some weeks maybe 6..

Well, I have been turned away from WoW since I heard about it but I am wondering to those who play EQ 2 quite a bit do you consider yourselves mostly power gamers? I am all for EQ 2 but I am the type who will settle for a game like WoW for better playability as far as lag and that junk goes ( im a bit poor for EQ lol )

I do not want a rant in here I am just asking not what one is better...that is a dumb question in these forums. I would like to know though, if you didnt have the time or the machine would you guys still go for EQ? Is it truly that good?
( Love the graphics myself /drool )

Well thanks for your input and sorry to those who get all blown outta their panties by this.

P.S. Look at my situation like this. You COULD buy a $1000 Cavalier and enjoy it ok, or you could buy a $1000 Muscle Car that will def. be better BUT it is gonna take some work and time and money that you might not have a whole century to get....ya got me?

EQ2 truly is a sweet game. I like WoW also. I am new to both games and personally I like EQ2 better. WoW is more fun if you like player killing, but if you are really into the fantasy aspect of the games then EQ2 is way better. More classes, races, armor, quests, weapons, skills, mobs, etc. EQ2 is more in depth I would say, and more likely to expand than WoW. Blizzard tends to expand once then nothing but crappy patches (ala Diablo 2).

Well, I wouldn't buy a Cavalier if you forced me to at gunpoint..you'd just have to shoot :D But as far as EQ2...

First, you said you had a computer on the way for christmas. Then ya said something that made it seem like your PC can't run the game :) Well..is the computer thats coming at Christmas worthy of running it? Or is it too unable to run? Because if you can run EQ2 well on the new PC, that changes some things :)

That said, WoW seems to be catered more towards the casual gamer. With it's soloability and quick levels (so I hear, didn't play it that long in beta), it seems like its better able to satisfy the gamer on the go.

Still, I'm a devout soloist in EQ2 and up to 21 so far, I've found no serious trouble soloing. Did for a little bit, but then I found a nice new spot :) It's slow, but technically I can come in, get my fix, and leave If I'm strapped for time.

I think it really comes down to what you want out of a game. EQ2 is EverQuest, even though alot of things have changed since EQ2..i love Norrath, the races, the class choices, the monsters, everything about the game and its history. I also love the combat, which some hate, but I love. WoW's combat to me was very stiff, it wasn't fun to do, and certainly wasn't fun to watch. But if your computer can't run EQ2, by all means, WoW I'm sure will serve ya fine.

PVP - And as the poster above mentioned, WoW has PVP, and EQ doesnt have it at all. To some that matters the world, so that could be something to think about as well.

Edit - Also, the elves in WoW, in my opinion, are the ugliest elves in the history of elf-kind. You get a super awesome looking CG movie in the beginning with the, in my opinion, best rendition of an elf ever..then boom..you get into the game world, and what a let down! They dont even look as good as Warcraft 3's, and thats male and female.

I played WoW for a bit in open beta, but I play EQ2 now. I am your average gamer who gets in 15-25 hours a week play, mostly about 20 hours a week and I love this game. I have three characters right now, a 15 sorcerer/9 artisan 10 sorcerer/3 artisan and a 4 fighter/3 artisan. I would say there is plenty of things to do if you are a casual gamer like me.

As far as pc upgrades all I did was bump my ram up to 1gig and that helped a ton.

Well, my pc is a...

P-4 2.8
512 Ram

I am debating a GeForce card or ATI Pro in the $150-250 Range

And one more stick of 512 Ram

though I did love DAoC and the RvR area so I think I shall try them both....I know...I am a sucker!

If EQ 2 Runs fine than I shall see you all online, if it is to laggy for me than I will maybe go with WoW if I can settle with crappy character models...I agree with you on the elves!

For your vid card make sure it is a nVidia with 256 mb of mem. I got EQ2 my son got WoW. He can only get in a few hours a week since he has classes. WoW looks great and ran on the card that we had in the older computer. FYI my computer was only a year old and couldn't run EQ2 with all the graphics on. I do love EQ2 though. I have played EQ (1) for 5 years now. This is fun! That being said WoW looks sooooooo killer.

I suppose I'm an average player when it comes to EQ2... I hope. I have to split most of my gaming time between 2 MMORPG's. One is, of course, EQ2. Unfortunately EQ2 doesn't have the highest share in terms of days played. The actual playtime hours may be somewhat comparable on some weeks, though. I'd say about 15 hours a week.

With that said, started 2 days after launch, solo for exp (and getting loot at the same time) and a lot of quests and grouped up for the ones I can't do solo, I'm currently level 18.8 Warrior and level 9.something tradecrafting. Once I hit 20, I'll focus more on crafting.

I took about half the time (more if you factor in farming in the other game) to get to level 18 in EQ2 than in the other MMORPG I'm playing and at a much more slower pace.

As for graphics card... I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128. It's not the biggest boy in the hood, but I haven't had any problems (now that I have 1gig of RAM hehehe). Of course, I don't get to have most of the settings at high, just the ones that matter to me.

So, yes. I'd say get EQ2. ^^

As for WoW, I don't know. Not that I dislike the game. I just don't have the time for 3 MMORPG's. Not that I really have the time for 2, but yeah... addiction is a terrible thing. :)
