No, EQ2 is not another FFXI.

I've never played either but the letters are different.

Nope.. Your wrong.. Why I want that kind of groupsetup is not because I want to ding 50 asap.
Doing it to be most efficient? Yes. Why? Cause being on the edge is what I find most fun. And yes, I want to be no.1. Actually, thats why I do most things I do in life. To become no1.
As I stated in my post though its not neccessary to play this way and all ways work. Just not as efficent and not as 'risk' free.
Read my post on graffes where I state I do not like the increase xp we will get for solo/duo and questing.
imo it should almost be decreased.
Why?
Cause Im trying to do all quests I can and explore every zone there is.
But its impossible, well atleast if you want it to be fun because you will either have to turn of xp or do lots of green quests.
Game is to easy as it is (to level) and to make it even easier will mean all 'lowbies' will miss even more fun then I did because they will outgrey them.
Remember, its not the goal! Its the journey!

Perhaps I am. I never played with you, so I don't know. But "being the most efficient" and having the "cookie cutter setup" (tank, healer, dps) are what I define as powergaming. If you need that setup because your desire is to be most efficient, then to me, that's powergaming (again, nothing is wrong with this, I play this way in the other game. I'm just happy I can choose _not_ to, in EQ2). To be number one in this game (and pretty much in any MMORPG, or even just game, for that matter), it is all about the levels.

Now, please take no offense, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

As far as solo/duo experience, you did mention the best way to go about questing and that's turning of combat xp. Making it intentionally harder for soloers/duo's/trio's to progress through the game, just so you don't have to turn off your combat xp, sounds selfish to me. It is not needed to go back to the hard days of yore when all you really need to do is a right-click and left-click. Besides, most quests that are worth doing, you can get the drops now even if the mobs are gray to you.

I believe it should not be as rewarding (loot-wise) to solo than group. However, from the originally advertised intentions from SOE, it shouldn't be more difficult to progress (level) through the game solo. Adding the bonus does, indeed, make it easier to do this playstyle than it did before.

And I couldn't agree more. However, one doesn't have to be handicapped with a slower experience gain solo to enjoy the journey. Nor do they, as you have stated, need to be most efficient. It's all a matter of playstyle.

Give the freedom of choice (solo/duo/trio/group/powergaming/casual, etc.) to as many people as possible and things may work out much better than not.

Its not being selfish. I feel that I have missed alot of content and sure I could turn off xp but that is no option, really, think about it for a second.. Would you turn of xp all the time?
Sure when doing betrayel or waiting on friends so you wont grey out that radzone etc.. But I wouldnt want to do it so I never had a green quest in my journal.

Its a big game and if I was able to do everything in the game before I hit lvl 50 something would be wrong imo.
So as the game is today regarding xp per kill and quest its perfect imo.
I havent done a single grind in this game so far and have had a blast doing diffrent quests and exploring.
The reason why I dont want to boost xp more is not because I am selfish, its the other way around.
I want all you people to have all the fun experiences I have had throughout my lvls!
For my sake it would be very nice to see a XP increase since its soon time to start an alt.
But my thoughts are to all you that will miss alot of very good content this game has to offer!

I mostly group with the same people. Fury, mystic, guardian, warlock, conjurer and swashbuckler. Since we have the same people in the group every day we all have the same quests so we miss very little content since we never have to be in a group doing quests for others that you dont have your self.
This great group can take on orange and some red nameds and do tough and fun quests, quests that would be boring to do if they where green.
Hard = fun, easy = boring.
Faster lvling = more green quests = more boring

This is ofcourse just my oppinion. :)

I played EQ1 for a 2 1/2 years, then went to FFXI and dropped EQ1 like that. Been playing for a year and a half with a few months off to play EQ2.

In EQ2 Qeynos is MASSIVE. Lots of different sections of the city. Each with its own flavor. I haven't any other cities or outposts, so I don't know how it compares to FFXI's 4 main cities and 3 outlying cities.

I spent most of my time tradeskilling and found the tradeskill system to be very good. You can make worthwhile items to gear up your alts and guildies.

I did get a summoner to level 18, and I found the way you get exp to be fun. You get a whole bunch of quests, and the stuff you hunt for exp is usually what you quest for. So you don't feel like you are wasting your time just mindlessly killing stuff. Your prey is part of your goals.

Alas, it wasn't enough to keep from FFXI for too long. Not sure why. FFXI is much tougher. Longer to get into groups. Lots of wading through poorly balanced groups with crappy players. Efficiency is often beat over your head. Tradeskills are very expensive and take forever to make anything nice. Fewer quests. Yet I like it. I duo with my stepson as a level 18 bard (you can't solo that well, but you can duo). Then switch to 56THF when I need to pick a coffer for a map or some other quest. Then I exp on my 62 BLM or switch to WHM for level up my subjob. All on one character. One set of maps, one set of fame, one set of story missions.

I probably would have liked if more if my guild was bigger and I could play with guildies/friends more. Get more quests done as as bunch of friends. Level up the guild, etc. In FFXI my linkshell isn't that big but they do big stuff and I'l grinding my way to join them. In a fun way though. Completing my AF quests (level 50-60 quest armor) for two jobs, finding more maps, leveling my subjob. All sorts of stuff.

I guess it comes down to preference. And atm I still prefer FFXI. But these things never last forever, so who know? Maybe I'll be back. Until then, have fun.

Sonnette,

No matter what game you play there is "grinding" even in Wow. If there wasnt then it would have to be all quests all the time. The devs dont want you to level too fast or else you would get done with the game in no time and bored even quicker.

There are some really nice drops in a lot of the quests and I can attest to this. Even at a level 12 toon in Qeynos and you see a pair of "cured leather handwraps" drop and look at your 3AC gloves you can tell the drops can only get better as well as the quest items. I like the fact that I have seen some rare drops even rival quest loot too. Makes it all the better to grind imho.

I actually hate Wow for one of the odd things. The xp grind is not ratio appropriate for your level as you get going. It feels like it actually does take longer to grind over lvl 15 or so. This sticks you smack dab in the middle of quest errands. And let me tell you piling up quests to do can be just as daunting and "grinding" as the good old fashioned wiping the floor with 200 mobs to get 50%. In EQ2 it is nice that you can do both fairly well, grind to level or quest to level in about the same time. In some cases faster, like during your double XP time for grinding or getting a nifty explore quest that yeilds 13% xp in 25 minutes. Its all good.

Do what I do, make a bunch of toons, play them all roughly the same amount of time. Yes you will not level as fast as just focusing on one player, but.. you will have variety, level your alts and main at same level so you can say hold on let me log my cleric.. summoner.. warrior etc. You will have no problems grouping. Even if you stick to one player.

I am not sure I have any unwanted toons, I have a good mix. All of em are wanted you know why? When I solo I save most of my drops, and always keep the adept spells I pick up. When I group I play fair, friendly, and do my job right. I also am not greedy and often times pass out dropped spells to guys in my group who need them. (Guildies or not). I have a good rep, and some really nice guys to play with who appreciate me. And for your issue which is most important they do not care what toon I play. This helps with getting a group as I level on my server cause they know me.

Play the game... not the otherway around :)

take care.

I agree with eclypse, My main char is a lvl 33 pali and very soloable (infact that is mostally what i do) and yes I too am a ffxi refugee. In comparison, I like this game so much more due to the fact it is designed for all types of play from soloing, to small groups to full groups and even raids which is a great time to get your guild togeather! My entire guild are what was my LS in ffxi and man we all are glad we switched.

As for the playability and multible characters it is all up to the user. I have 3 right now that are just for fun like a lvl 6 rat warrior, an ogre priest, and a euridite scout just for shock factor. The great thing is I am never bored in the game infact there is so much to do it is hard to find what to do. Also just one more note. As for grinding for xp I have never done it yet in this game and I am glad. All I have been doing is questing, finding the lore and history about the game which is really neat, and just having fun with my online friends (which last time I checked that is what "games" are for.)

I do hope this helps ya out I kinda wish I had known how happy I was going to be with the game as compared to ffxi.

The elusive Commanderhoek signing off.

end of line.
