Horses? Already? How?Follow

#1 Nov 30 2004 at 12:05 AM Rating: Decent
ok. I may be naive here, but how come I see so many people riding horses now when they cost 2pp minimum to get? Seriously, I've seen 10-15 people riding horses already. I think I'm doing good having about 6gp already with the game so new. What the heck am I missing?

Both Paladin and Dark Knight get a horse ability at level 20. Supposedly it's only as fast as J-boots, where as the normal, more expensive horses are faster than that.

Oh good! I'm not going crazy then. Everyone I've seen riding horses are paladins level 20+. Thanks! My sanity is restored.

Well, if Jboots are sprint speed, then yes, Pally/SK mounts are that fast. If not, then those particular mounts are faster :) As much complaining as i hear about the Jboots i seriously dont see how they could be as fast as sprint..because thats a nice speed boost. Specially when it lasts til you drop the horse :)

my duo partner has the jboots...

I haven't decided which character to /claim mine with yet...

the jboots are *NOT* faster than sprint.. when I sprint I do catch up and pass her.. however, sprint and the Jboots do stack.. so when she sprints I get passed in 1/2 a heartbeat.

Can you 'sprint' whilst on a horse? I suppose 'gallop' would be a more apt description.

Cheers

Hmm... I was considering claiming my jboots for my shadowknight. Is there any reason to have the boots on a pally/SK with the horse then?

By the way, money is not a proublem. There are several methouds out there that allow you to pull in a lot of cash fast.

A new player that has 2-3 silver, can easily turn it around and have 5-6 gp within an hour or two during prime time. 3-4 plat within a day or two.

I am assuming this will balance out, but its amazing how many people sell things without checking their value. :)

Elaborate...

Don't get the wrong idea, I play the game for fun, not to see how much money I can net...But as more of a casual player, I find it tough to keep much money around at all...I've already not been able to pay rent twice, and I continually run out of money trying to up my artisian skill...I never have more than a couple silver...BTW I'm lvl14

Another thing, bags are insanely expensive, and I'm up to my knees in TS items, my bank is full and it's an all around pain...I wish they'd make the banks bigger...

This'll probably be burried

The wholesaler quests will net you 3, and 12 silver respectively for T1 and T2 items. (Last time I checked).

So if you can buy T1 items for less then 20 copper, T2 for 80 you will make a profit.

You can very often by T1 items for between 2-12 copper. T2 Items tend to from 8 to 80 copper. So with a little care you can make a 10x return on your money. Considering you can do this every few seconds it does not take long to generate a great deal of money. Note that once you have more then 50 gold the return is not really enough to warrant it, but it’s an excellent way to build starting funds.

As for bags.

Make some Elm Strong Boxes. These only go in your bank, but hold 8 items and cost less then a silver to make. They weigh 100 lbs so be careful transporting them.

In addition Pristine Rough Leather Backpacks can easily be made that hold 6 items and give you a 10% weight reduction and cost silver or two to make.

Note both of these items can be made by ANY crafter with the most basic components.

No. You can push the button, and it'll say you're sprinting...and it'll drain your power, but no extra boost :(

Since I haven't claimed my Jboots yet I am not certain on how their speed is affected during combat, but assuming the speed is not affected it prolly wouldn't hurt. Once entering combat whilst mounted on a horse, your speed is cut down to normal running speed. So if the jboots retain their speed during combat, it might help some in running away. However, it would prolly be best to save them for a char that doesnt have any speed boost spells or skills.

Sorry, slight threadjack.

It's also amazing how people can accidentally click on "Buy from this broker" instead of "Examine"...

Grr... there goes my 40 silver! :P At least someone out there is happy. :/

Concerning horses... I'd like to know if the actual horses you buy have sound effects? I find it ethereal to see a Paladin on his horse riding past me with no sound whatsoever. :/ Trivial, yeah, but still.

Also, you don't pay upkeep on them, do you? And can recall them at anytime?

Horse sound effects would be nice. The Pally mounts actually do have a sound effect, its just so insanely quiet you can't hear it, or barely. It sounds like..really like horse huffing and breathing..with an extremely..extremely quiet thud thump here and there heh

Corison, the Wholesaler task which you refer to, is that the one initiated by the person at the artisian shop who asks you to go and get 15 lead clusters or what not?

And what do you mean by T1 and T2 items? I know it means tier 1 and tier 2, but I don't really get what the difference is...

And if so, you're saying then that I wouldn't have to mine the lead clusters but can buy them instead and still make a profit by completing the quest, but I didn't think you could buy items such as lead clusters...I thought they were gather/collect/forage/etc. only items, and if so, where can you buy them from?

Thanks for the recommendations on bags as well...I wish you could examine items from the recipie list before making them (i.e. I didn't know that the elm strong box was 8 slots, or that the backpacks were 6 slots w/ weight reduction)

They are gathered etc items but many people then sell them on the market - ironically enough usually to clear bag space - so you can buy them cheap. This seems to vary a lot with time of day etc.

Just buy from the broker in your TS house and turn in to the quest-giver. You make 3 or 12 silver on T1 or T2 and can get another work order immediately. You also gain faction with the TS house so even if the profit is marginal it may be worth doing it and getting the next.

And yes people do buy without checking. I mispriced a pelt yesterday and someone bought it Smiley: smile

T1 are the common ones you find in the newbie area. Anyone can harvest these. Iron Clusters, Tin, Malachite, Roots, Ect.

T2 are found in in the main areas, and in general you seem to need a 40+ harvesting skill to collect these. Severed Maple, Tuber Strands, Electrum Clusters, ect.

Yes, this is the Quest that asks you to out and collect 15 of X component. You can buy these from the Broker if other players have them for sale. Note: You CAN NOT use items already in your inventory as far as I have seen, you must gather or purchase them after the work order is given to you.

Actually you can. But it takes another person to help. Basically you give the items you want counted to a friend, and have him trade them back to you 1 at a time...ding quest item per trade! This is not an exploit because you still need all 15 to turn in to finish the quests. Just a way to use items you already harvested before you got the quest.

Thanks, that works. So again you can't use items already in your inventory, they must come into your inventory after the quest is given. :) Its good to know though that you can trade them as well as buy them and harvest them.
