EQ2 classes vs. EQ1 classesFollow

Okay, I am killing time while I wait for my graphics card to show up so I can finally start playing. :P

How do the classes in EQ2 compare to classes in EQ1? I hear rogues are getting some new abilities. I have tried playing one in EQ1 but got bored with her, so I was curious to know if they're more fun in the new game.

Has anyone tried out a couple different classes in EQ2? Which ones do you like best so far?

I've tried everything but a fighter type class. Basically, whatever you thought of them in EQ1, forget it. The classes, style, gameplay & pretty much everything minus the lore are completely different.

I can not stress, they are completely different.

Now if I can only get the masses to get over the buffs vs boons, I'll be happy. Buffs as in you cast em & forget em, cause they last 12 hours. Boons are the uber good ones like breeze & speed, very short duration. However, people are so lost in that they need these buffs all the time (which they don't) that I've stopped playing my enc, just for the sake on not listening to 5 members all complain that they don't have it non stop.

Perhaps 1 day, next year, it'll make sense.

Humm... what level is your Enchanter. Well mine is Lv. 16, and I got one more 12h buff + the 2 you get as a mage. I don't have any boons yet... might come on later, not sure. So I really don't see what you are talking about those boons spell, don't ahve any.

Although I also stoped to play my Enchanter for now. It's too much of a class that rely on the group to function well, so since most of the time the party always ***** up my play, I will wait for the player to mature a little bit in basic knowledge of the game. So maybe when everyone start working on a new carater, maybe it will work out better.

3 minute duration single-target buffs with a 16 second recast make me want to open my wrists. Just... no. God, no. No way in hell.

Anyway, the biggest difference in class distinction you'll notice at low levels is probably in soloing ability. Melee tend to outperform casters, at least in my experience, most likely due to the availability of gear versus adept 3 spells right now. It'll probably even out some once the tradeskill market begins to make a dent in demand.

So how different are the chanters from the EQ1 chanters? I mean, chanter buffs like breeeze and speed never lasted long in 1 and I do get tired of playing my chanter there because it seems like I'm being badgered for buffs every 3 minutes.

What kind of spells last for 12 hours? Right now with my EQ1 main as a cleric I'm used to my buffs lasting quite awhile. I'm thinking of trying a cleric in EQ2, so I was curious what they're like and how hard they are to play at the lower lvls (I did occasionally solo my cleric up until lvl 20.) Also trying to figure out if it would be possible to put a cleric through the betrayal quest without a group (or how far in the quest I could get w/o a group.)

Its rather hard to explain, but its a very major overhaul on a whole. All the classes are different, you gain abilities/spell(s)every level, sometimes halfway through the level. I havent played a chanter myself, but through grouping with them they have the same purpose as before... Enhancement, mezzing etc...

One of the biggest differences I've noticed is the increased regen of both Health and Power (Hit Points and Mana)... Down times is almost a thing of the past (and I LOVE it). So getting your crack (clarity) fix is not as important, but enchanters are still nice to have around.

One of the nice things I have found is that you can group with about any other class and still do some very nice effective hunting... Its not like you have to have a Warrior, Cleric, and a Chanter to form a viable group... Big improvement as far as the fun factor is concerned.

As was noted... there really is NO way to compare.

You won't be pestered for buffs... because you can't buff and run ala EQLive.

They classes that I've messed with so far are already VERY different than their EQLive namesakes... complete with all new abilities. Only very loosly can they be considered the same. (i.e. Priests heal, Fighters fight, Scouts sneak, and Mages blast or crowd control.)

You'll notice certain crossovers... for example illusionists can (as their name implies) cast illusions, and have mez type spells.

The 12 hour buffs the people are talking about are spells that use concentration.

As a Cleric, I can solo better than most melee classes actually.

I can take on double arrow blue mobs, but it's a very tough fight, and sometimes I'll die. Double arrow green mobs I always win.

I can take on Yellow mobs with a yawn.

I can solo orange mobs, and usually do that when I solo for exp.

But a Cleric really shines in groups, where he keeps everyone else alive so they can hammer mobs like mad and rack up the exp. But we're not frail little paper mages in this game, no way. I don't know how they were in EQ1, never played it.... but they are a far cry from White Mage in FFXI, which I couldn't stand to play because it was SO boring. Stand there far away from the melee and watch HP bars... now I buff my team, keep an eye on the healer, and run up to start smacking the mob along side them, and toss in a nuke now and then. Much more fun.
