Should I reroll my character?Follow

Well, its been several weeks of playing and I'm having fun, although some issues have made me reconsider my current character.

My main character that I've been playing is currently a lvl 15 Gnome Rogue, lvl 2 artisan (I haven't done this at all).

I missed almost all the early quests that give coin, xp, and some armor / weapon. Now I am very poor and have little to show in the way of armor and weapons. I only have a few apprentice 2 skills and no adepts, as I have been unable to afford any. I have almost no money at all, perhaps 12sp in the bank. When inspecting characters of a similar lvl, they all have more / better armor and weapons than I.

I really feel like I'm stuck at this point. I don't do any tradeskill because I left the IoR too early, and now I feel like this is one of the best ways to make money.

I'm still quite confused about the the games many aspects and I feel like investing anymore of my limited time in this character will be for nothing without the right gear and skills and quest knowledge. I'm also afraid of starting over when I was just catching up with some friends in lvls. Is it worth starting over and doing the quests and tradeskills right, or should I drive forward and hope to get better luck from the broken lotto loot system?

From personal experience, you'll find yourself b ored rerolling and marching across IOR 6oo times to do all the quests and stuff you missed.

You can still do tradeskills, it just would have been less valuable growth time done in the beginning.

I stayed way , way past exp level 6 just to work on tradeskills. It was tedious at times but worthwhile I think. I think it's hilarious that you can die during tradeskilling.

Look at it this way; if you use all your character slots, your gonna tread over the same ground again and again anyway. But once in awhile something new happens, like a Grimgash group of 5 fighters.

Just play what pleases you at the moment. WHen my 15 cleric died 10 times in an hour I felt the need for change and have been away from here for a week. Now I'm bored with the fighter and artisan, so guess where I'm going?

Hey man.

I was in the same boat with my first character, an Erudite Wizard (which I have recreated but have not put any time in)... but I started both a Wood Elf Scout (about to go Predator) and a Human Crusader.

I felt it was worth it to do the early quests.

My Wood Elf Scout left the IoR with almost 25 silver pieces, which I was proud of. (and a trade skill of 8.5 or thereabouts).

What it comes down to is this: Do you want to take the time to rebuild a character, or take the time to try to beef up your current character by farming and such?

Do what you feel is in your best interest, man.

After all, this is only a game and you are paying money each month to play it, so do what you feel you will have fun with. :)

Yeah, just try restarting. I mean.... don't cancel your gnome character but just make a new one to play with, see if you like it better.

I tried all classes. Died so much trying to solo on Crusader I got kind of frustrated. So now I'm a cleric... and I love it. If you're not happy with where you're at, it's no biggie to start over. It shouldn't feel like a race to get to uber high levels, really... so if it takes you a while to get back to 15 *shrug* so? It's a game that's going to be going for years. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Very good point Ivven, rate up.

You have 4 slots, might as well try each archetype once, right?

Hey, you don't have to be broke as a lvl 15 Rogue. Here's what you do. Head out into Antonica (or Commonlands if yer evil - I know I'm evilGnome but ... I *HATE* Freeport, brr) and find an area of animals that are blue/white to you. Even green (make sure they are ungrouped and have no up arrows). Just buzz around til you find a place good for your lvl (it's not hard - there are lots of spots). Kill them as fast as you can (farm) for a few hours.

Do use HO's. Search sites for tips on how to use em, and use em every fight.

Make sure you have lots of slots in inv - or know where nearest merchant is. At your lvl you will get ... let me think... maple shield or buckler, sells for well over 2 silver ... canine teeth or antlers (same price) ... I've also gotten a maple bow, brig. pants, and stuff like that. It's not hard to make 20 silveR. Now if you saved the pelts, you can make even more (sell them to players for best price, or just dump on a merch).

Okay, with 20 silver you can easily buy app 3 abilities or depending on your server, maybe a couple of adept skills. Pick the ones that do the most damage for you.

Being an artisan is a drag imo. I broke my oaths never to tradeskill in a rpg game again (the shawl quest <shudders in horror>) and played up to art lvl 9. Now at 10 I have to narrow down to 3 areas, and were I to go to 20 I have to narrow down to one. Excuse me, but this SUX out loud. Sony, you blew it on this one.

But it's not too late for you to skill up as an art - in fact, save pelts and some cash. Join your local wholesale basement (or whatever it's called), go to a machine and turn 40 pelts into rawhide. You'll be lvl 5 art by then at least. Now make packs. It's really easy to get to lvl 6 art - and newbie nodes are found in the various newbie gardens connected to the villages. They can be overcamped at times - if so just move around or re-enter new instanced (often when u go in u choose Oakmyst 2 or Oakmyst 3) - try 2 first, exit, then try 3 - and farm nodes in the one that has the fewest competing chars in it.

Well I'm running on here. Don't reroll - u can make up all lost exp in FP or Q. You may want to make a book farmer alt in IoR - I have yet to see the rare artisan books (the ones you can't buy) drop on mobs in Q area - they do drop on IoR mobs (grouped mobs mostly, as I recall). I'm considering this, cuz I need volume 9 spell book. Hope this helps you, GL.

No need to reroll, you can still get most of those quests and do them easier azs you can kill the things faster now.

You can still start tradeskilling, you missed on some easy exp but that is all. Just make a few Fossil tmepers and Tin Bars to get to level 3 then you can buy your books and take off like everyone else.

Get your gathering up, that is the biggest time sink at lower levels. It is popular ATM but you can run around with out fear of aggro in most the newbie zones while you work on it.

Heck no! There is no need to reroll for items. There are tons of quests that give you great items even for some one of your level. If you don't like the item guess what? You can sell it and make some coin. Now.. if you wanted to reroll due to an bad choice in Tradeskill well.. I would say yes do it. Have comtemplated it here but decided to go w/ my choice even tho it may not seem as fun as I thought it would be.

Another point:

If you feel like you are stuck because your equipment sucks, you could always disable your combat experience and kill a bunch of green or light-blue mobs and get some drops. You'll probably get some tradeskill books and/or adept skills/spells. You can sell these for some good cash if you don't want to use them, or you can maybe get some weapons or armor that you could use.

Hope this helps. :)

Just had to mention this. You aren't really narrowing that much. You will not lose any of your skills or recipies that you have at lvl 10. When you pick subclass you only get better at your chosen field much like real life.

Actually, you do seem to get worse at creating things that aren't in your chosen area. Also, you will ONLY get recipes from your chosen class and then sub-class, and many of the components you require you will NOT be able to make. You will have to interact with players of other tradeskill professions to succeed as a higher level tradeskiller.

Just a thing about merchants. Selling to the one in your hunting ground is not always a good idea as they give the worst prices. This could be really important if you're wanting to sell an armour drop. It's well worth holding onto some items and selling them when you go back in the city.
