Okay- I have a couple questions on this:

1. Can a race that has only good or evil alignment change their alignment with this quest (ie good dark elf or evil high elf)?

2. Just how hard is it?

1) Yes: Certain subclass trainers are only available in certain cities. You can be a good dark elf in qeynos, but you can't train as a Shadowknight.

2) Not hard but tedious. You will die a few times and you need to spend a good chunk of hours killing mobs to complete the quest. It can't be soloed for the final named mob kills.

Silly question probably, but if you start the quest and don't finish it I assume there is no drawback right?

When you start the quest, you are exiled from your original city... That would be a big drawback. Once you start, you need to go all the way or re-roll another character.

Sup, just wanted to add a few things for those of you Qeynosians who aspire to come to freeport. I have made a good character who is currently in the process of Betraying. Once you get to the commonlands, you have to kill 500 orcs. Don't worry though, at level 14 I can solo the orcs outside the freeport gates no problem. After that, there are about four of five named mobs and NPC's you must defeat to complete the quest. I'm letting you know this so that you can expect to spend probably 6-8 hours soloing, and about 2-3 in a decent group to complete the quest.

Also make sure you start the betrayal quest prior to level 18 at the most. I would recommend starting it at 14 or 15. The NPCS you must kill to attain access to the Qeynos Queen's chamber are level 16. One of them casts so be prepared. I had no problem soloing them with my level 14 Summoner.

I hope this helps you guys thinking about betraying....Good luck. Please ask more questions and I'll try to keep the replys up.

Who is the NPC who starts this betrayl quest? I'm a Wood Elf Level 13 Predator at the moment, and I want to turn into an Assassin later, so I have to go to Freeport. When I'm level 15 I'll start the quest, but I need to know where to go and start it. Also, you said I can't go back into Qeynos anymore, so I should probably take all my bank items and things in my apartment before I start? Thanks.

The strategy guide says you can change prior to lvl 17, but I'm not sure if this is confirmed and since I'm a lvl 17 to necro I won't be disowning FP citizineship.

On the housing I read you are still able to enter the city, it's just that the merchants/trainers aren't as customer friendly.

Ok check it...The I can't remember the name of the guy that starts the quest, however he is on the second floor of one of the buildings across the little bridge from the docks in Qeynos Harbor. He will offer you the quest. Then you go to the down below and from there, zone into Vermin's Snye. Once there, talk to the first NPC you see coming up the staircase from zone in. He will offer you the continuation of the quest.

With regard to your other question, you can leave all your items in your bank, you will be able to access everything at the bank in freeport. Make sure you buy bags and bank in all your money before you leave, you will want the room to carry items when you're killing all the orcs in the Commonlands (500 orcs). Killing that many orcs you're bound to run across some spells or something worthwile and will want the extra carrying room. I don't think you will have to relinquish ownership of your apartment. I would'nt worry about it if I were you.

Hope that helps.

Does the quest NPC offer the quest at any time? Other then that thanks, you put it all down like I needed to know. =)

Is there a maximum lvl the quest can be done? or would it be possible to become, say a ranger and then betray to Freeport allowing you to stay as a ranger but be a citizen of Freeport?

I believe the quest NPC offers the quest at any time. You cannot complete the quest after you have chosen your final class. I would say the max level to complete the quest is 18. I recommend 14-16. Like I said before i'm doing it at 14 and am having no trouble so far.

how about switching town AFTER you got your class so you can play with friends from qeynos? does that works?

I checked the manual on this and the max lvl to complete the betrayal quest is 17. I also read that you can't get access to your old bank once you switch cities.

Has anyone done the Freeport to Qeynos betrayal? I play a DE cleric in EQ1 and I'd like to stick to a DE in EQ2, so I was trying to figure out how hard it would be to make a good DE.

Having just completed the betrayl quest, a couple of things.

First, you CAN still access your bank from the old city. All banks are still connected. However, as all banks are in the cities, into you complete this quest, you have NO bank access. This can potentially cause weight problems with cash. I was carrying over 2000 cp at one point.

You can go into your old city, as I had to because I had cleaned out my old apartment, but forgot to relinquish it. Be sure you relinquish your old room or you can't get one in your new city. I had to sneak back into Longshadow alley and relinquish it. Not to hard, just stay clear of the guards. Then I just used Call of Qeynos to get out of there (not to mention I didn't want to hike all the way back again).

As noted, you cannot start this quest after you ding 18. Once you officially lose your citizenship in the old city, you cannot ding 18 until quest is done.

Assuming experience debt and levels work the same way in eq2, would it be possible to:

hit 20, gain your specialized final class, then DE-LEVEL (is this even possible in eq2?) down to 17 and do the quest from there?

it will remember your class info ( went from mage to sorceror at level 8 and the title didnt kick in until lvl 10) but will the quests treat you as if you are a level 20 or as a level 17?

Thoughts?

No de-leveling in EQ2. When you die, you dont lose xp, but gain xp debt.

I am in the process of betraying to Freeport. I went to the Snye, and got zoned to the guards. I'm a predator, and level 14. The Guards ALL were yellow, and aggro. I died miserably. I tried to sneak, no luck there, they spotted me no prob and killed me on the spot. How in the heck did people do this on level 14 without a problem? Now I'm into a LOT of exp debt and can't get my shard without being back where the guards were that killed me =( Should I just tough it out with 52% exp debt till I hit level 15 and be able to do it? I have great equipment I think *Can't think of it at the moment, but it's really good stuff*

Thoughts? Thanks.

I started the quest at 16 (rogue - I meant to start at 14 but I was just cleaning up unfinished quests and before I knew it... ) Anyway, at 16 the initial fights in freeport were a breeze. If you need another level go get it, nothing lost at all. As long as you start the quest while you are 17 or before, it seems there are no problems.

I wouldn't worry about the exp debt. Honestly, if they didn't make it show up when you mouse over, you wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Okay, I will try again at level 15. I just want to know, were you able to handle the first 2 guards in that room Remy Teleports you to without a problem? Because the first 2 guards just owned me =( Any tips for taking them out? *I'm a predator, but sneak won't work on the guards*

Sneak didn't work because they were yellow con. They are level 15 mobs, they were blue to me at 16 and sneak worked fine. In fact, once sneak works, I heard that you can sneak right back to Bonebreaker and simply kill him, leaving the other 2 alone.

I can't say for certain that you will be successful at level 15 from personal experience, but I remember reading comments earlier by a 15 scout who had completed this part successfully. I would imagine that success is really dependent on your chaining HOs as fast as you can, and flipping Swindler's over to a useful one (such as Ringing Blow) if it comes up too often.

Another drawback I don't think anyone has mentioned.

I am a Dark Elf betraying to Qeynos because I want to be a Paladin. Ever since I heard there were no Race/Class restrictions I thought a Dark Elf Paladin would be very cool.

I won't ruin the roleplay of the quest, but you are executed by Lucan and cannot retrieve your soul shard. I am still waiting mine out, I think it's 3 days. The run Through Nektulos is tough, but doable. I had a guide from my guild, and it helped immensely.

You then have to kill 500(!) Gnolls, several ^^ named Gnolls, and I think some Human dude who's also ^^. As soon as you get to Antonica and get your quest, go to the Tower of Vhalen. Inside you will see a Bell, click on it to recieve a quest to slay 40 Gnolls. There is also a quest to kill Gnoll Miners inside of Blackburrow. This is given to you by a young Squire who serves his Knight at a camp not too far to the Southwest of Blackburrow. This is where you'll respawn if you die in or around Blackburrow.

Those are just two quests that stack nicely with your newfound crusade against the cruel, crafty, calamitous canine creatures. I'm sure there are more to be had, but if you'll excuse me my blade cries out for more blood and fur!
