I've been having some very bad connectivity issues with EQ2 as of late. About every 15 minutes I go linkdead. Others I talk to don't seem to be having this problem, even those that also have Comcast internet service. I get booted to the character select screen and I log back in quickly, but this is disasterous as you might expect, especially in a group situation where I have to be re-invited all the time.

I have a fairly good system:
P4 3.0 Ghz
1 Gig RAM
Radeon 9800 pro
Comcast cable internet

I know my hardware isn't the issue, and I've followed the EQ2 troubleshooting guide and disabled all my startup programs that might be interferring and causing a disconnect. I have tried to get guidance from EQ2 support, but they tell me to contact my ISP. I contact Comcast and you guessed it, they say that I need to discuss the issue with SOE.

At this point, if nobody wants to address the problem, I will be forced to leave the whole game. These linkdeaths are getting so bad the game is all but unplayable.

You, kind members of Allakhazam, are my last hope. Please help. As always, I thank you.

before you ditcvh the game, How stable is your cable provider. While comcast is a good cable company there are some areas where their service is bad, hiccups occur and they disconnect you without warning.

If your cable company is good and you never had probs in the past then there can be somthing knocking you out of the game.

It can be spyware or adware. heres some freeware to help eliminate that prob if you might have it. (most spyware runs as backround programs undetected and can knock you out of your games, this used to happen to me when i played ffxi.)

www.winpatrol.com

booth adaware se and spybot search and destroy are free and very good products (theres lots of lame immitations especially for spyware) run these 2 programs but not at the same time.

I advise that you run spybot 1st, then adaware se via smart scan, then full scan then the scan volium for ads.

Once you run that restart your computer and run winpatrol. this gives you access to all your backround programs and lets you shut unessesary ones without risking your computer to crash, that way you can get the best preformance your computer has to offer.

Now I do not play eq2 however the prob you seem to have is a common one and affects many mmos. Hope this can help fix your issues so you can enjoy the mmo you have chosen.

I do indeed have Ad-Aware and Norton Anti-virus. I've tried running them, but they haven't found anything.

Is this really a common problem? Am I just supposed to live with the issue? If others are having this trouble, what can be done?

Have you tried to re-set your options in the game? Maybe turning off the shadows and things like that? I know you said you tried turning off all your programs in the background, but make sure you also Disable your Anti-Virus Program. And try to turn off any firewalls you may have running....These two things also affect game play. Good Luck. And if you have Zone Alarm...try to fix that too....

Not sure if this helps but I have Comcast and used to get booted playing EQ every time a pop up add came up. I would get 4 or 5 an hour so this became really annoying. I bought Norton Internet security (I am sure there is cheaper) and the firewall cured my problem.

Hope this was helpful

If all else fails, do a reinstall. Also try to set all your settings as low as possible. That should not be necessary with your machine, but it might fix it. ::shrugs::

We have two accounts. One PC has hyper-threading, and one doesn't. The PC w/ it does great. The one w/out doesn't - it lags horribly. Basically if I'm playing the healer I take the h-t machine so I can heal - my wife plays a tank on the lagging machine.

Both machines slow-zone like mad and lag horribly in city zones. There may be mem leak issues, because after a while I have to exit and restart - then I'm faster again - and that's on both PCs.

There may be other diffs between the machines I'm unaware of. Both have virtual mem maxed. Both are pretty decent, except the one lacks hyper-thr. Hope this helps.

I have...

P4 3.2 HT
1GB Dual Channel memory
Nivida 9600U
Comcast Cable

I've played other MMO's and never expreienced this problem. Until EQII. I do get cut off, but only twice a day.

Software and Hardware is not the problem (for me) as i've been a computer technicain for over 12 years. However I am on a full server.

In my case its either server load or the coding of the game it's self as my comcast service is perfectly stable.

I too use Comcast (Jersey City) and get disconnects, punts to the desktop, and a few blank BSODs at random intervals.

I am behind an "intelligent" hardware firewall and have trimmed all the "stuff" from Windows XP Pro (see www.tweakguides.com "From Reformat to Relax" for more info)

I run an XP3000+, 1gig Mushkin Black II memory, WD Raptor SATA RAID 0, in an Asus A7N8X motherboard.

The only thing I can tell you is that the drivers for my ATI AIW 9800 Pro sent four bug messages to ATI programming and the ATI recover unlocked two freezes in the five days I have been playing.

I bought an EVGA Nvidia 6800GT today from newegg.com to fix the graphics driver problems.

'nuff said? :)
