Crafting in Freeport?Follow

#1 Nov 27 2004 at 8:33 AM Rating: Decent
I was arrogant when I first started, and didn't do the crafting on IoR. Can someone tell me where I can practice tradeskills in Freeport? I've been to the Coalition of Tradesfolk, but they didn't have any.. "Machines" to craft with.

Thanks in advance.

Just run around. When I had my first character a society in Longshadow Alley allowed me access (I can't remember the name of it). There should be at least once society in each area that would allow you access, you just have to talk to the dude standing outside. :)

The society in Longshadow Alley is called the Dark Bargainers I believe, it should show up on your waypoints.

You'll need plenty of resources and cash for this. First go to The Sprawl, The Ruins, The Graveyard, and/or [forgot 4th newbie zone]. Do the quests, hunt the mobs, get your levels, sell the sellable loot for cash, and collect every resource you can get your paws on. Gathering will probably go up the fastest, fishing the slowest, unless you make an effort to concentrate on fishing.

Why go through all this? You need to raise your gathering/mining/foresting/trapping/fishing skills to 40 to be able to gather the tier II raw materials in the commonlands.

Don't worry if folks share the nodes, you share the ones they're on too.

Try to find a circular path you can run, once you start finding it hard to find fights for exp.

The alternative to all this is to buy the raw materials. I've seen some ridiculous prices. 1sp for severed elm. It takes at least 2 elm and 2 roots to make a single scroll. That's 4sp in resources if you buy at 1sp each. Then you have to sell the scroll for 5sp to make a small profit. But the market for scrolls is saturated by idiots making 30 of the same scroll, instead of making 3 each of ten different ones. Bottom line is that newbie scrolls (App III versions of the 1-10lvl spells) are selling for 2-5sp each. Better to gather your own raw materials, then you only have to buy liquid and fuels.

Also, try all the skills. Learn how to use the crafting skills to counter ill effects. At the higher levels the subclasses are highly interdependent, but when you're starting you can make all the ingredients for your scroll/backpack/armor/furniture, whatever. If you practice all the skills, you can continue this for a bit, but it gets hard to do on tier II stuff. From your practice you will get an idea which class/subclass you want to pursue, if you don't already know.

Wow are servers ever different then. Most of the gathered resources I see on the wholesaler ranging from 5c to 12c for the pelts.

I do prefer to gather my own, but I have bought a few things this way when i only needed a couple of raw materials to finish something I was working on.

So I need to find a society which will let me join, even if I'm just level 3 artisan? And the society will be in my starting area (Since I'm a Erudite, Stonestair Byway)?

I'm sorry but telling someone to "share the nodes" when that is your OPINION is not cool.

The truth is this... SOME people will run up and snag off your node without asking. THATS rude, better yet is to simply say "Hey may I join?" put it on a macro if you have to. But walking up and just snatching a node without word one is NOT cool and it really makes a lot of folks uncomfortable. This is a huge issue with a lot of people in the newbie zones especially... so for the record the OTHER side of the opinion is "don't just run up and snag a node someone is on, ask first." I've never found a person to say NO when asked nicely to share. =D

Otherwise good advice!

*Note I'm not trying to start another debate, we've all been over this a billion times. It's just best to say BOTH sides of the issue when giving advice rather than just your own personal opinion on the matter. It saves alot of screaming and yelling and hard feelings in game I think.

And YES all you have to do is find a society to join.... ask the guy at the door and he'lllet you in =D It'll most likely be a cellar door in the floor.

Well, I tried to be polite (at least as far as dark elf can be) in gathering materials. Almost every single time I swung at the tree or tried chip rock, some rotonga or erudite or you name it, would run towards and snatch piece of it. Thats quite unnerving. So after while, I stopped my policy and now do the same. I so far only seen one person who actually said "You mind?". Rest of them see resource snatching as something normal it seems.

PS. Been gathering at commonlands for while now - much better and no competition :)

well just because other people do it, doesnt make it right. There are two sides to the opinion and both have been rehashed a billion times. Those of you who go for rude and those of us who belive in being polite. (For the record my chars are evil too.)

And yes, the gathering in all other zones is GREAT and hardly any competition!

I think you can get access to all the different crafting means (forge, chemistry table, woodworking bench, etc.) in the basement of the Coalition of Tradesfolks house in (correct me if I'm wrong) South Freeport.

I'll also agree that jumping a node is just plain rude. Yes, it's a pain to see someone else get all three (or so) harvesting attempts at a node that you were just a milliseond behind them getting to. But then it isn't like there's a two hour wait time for nodes to spawn.

*scoff* I see someone marked me down because I expressed my opinion. How terribly childish. If I cared about "karma" I might be upset. LOL

There are crafting areas in each of the "newbie" towns too... so for Ogres and Trolls its big bend, DE's get Longshadow Alley etc. They look like cellar doors.

Those in Stonestair may have a problem as on my server(Runnyeye) the location posted on the map given in IoR is blank. I'm using the one in Big Bend. At least the Trolls and Ogres don't seem to mind

Where can I find the iron clusters. I need to collect 12 for the wholesaler before I can use the shop.

Indeed the basement of the Coalition of Tradesfolk (EAST Freeport actually) is a crafter's heaven. It has I think four levels and multiple (4 or 6) of each crafting platform is on each level.

However, there is two major problems: no merchant selling fuels or any other store-bought crafting ingrediant! Also, the bank is clear across zone, so you have to leave one zone and run to the bank if you need a different ingrediant. in fact, I have been totally unable to find a merchant in the entire zone that sells crafting ingrediants!

An easy solution would be to have a merchant inside the basement similar to the one on the IoR that offered candles, coal and the like for sale and to have a bank of sorts inisde the basement where you can withdraw supplies and ingrediants without a huge timesink.

Iron clusters are mined in tier 2 zones like commonland. you have to have a mining skill of 40 (i think) or higher to be able to mine there, practice your mining skill in the tier 1 zones like sprawl, graveyard or the other tier 1 zones

hope this helps
