Don't look at me this is my first time in here today....I'll try to rate ya back up on that one....You were just trying to be helpful.

And to everyone else thanks, guess the GM decided to scrap it as I've still heard nothing from him.....

I was playing earlier today and I saw a guy named "Attackers".

...

...

Then I thought about this topic. hehe
Poor guy, since "Attacker" might have ALREADY (How can that even be?) been taken, he had to put an "s" to still use that name. I mean... come on!

Questions to ask yourself when choosing a name:

1. Does my name offend anyone (racial, sexual, vulgar, etc.)
2. Is my intended server a Role Playing server (a la DAOC's dedicated RP servers)
3. Do i give a <MOD EDIT>

I agree...snowflake is NOT a RP name, and mine is probably not either. I tried to get the names God, Allah, Yahweh and Jahovah, but it wouldn't let me have it....which is understandable.

If this person petitioned your name, Support will recieve the following message:

Snowflake reported Evilerudite as a bad name

Support will then change BOTH players names....and probably give snowflake the name Artugeleathes or some such name that is so hard to spell, she will never get invites to group...

cheers

Right! That's also true, when you have down someone's name for like 15sec because it's to weird or long or stupid.

Nice and short, about 5 to 8 letters max, and someone real which makes sense, that's what I like.

I can't see myself reporting something as mundane as Evilerudite. Granted, it lacks creativity, but I'm sure all of us have a time when we make a character and we just cant come up with a name. Taps the bard would be mine from EQ1 heh.

That all said, my server has some serious winners. Ones that clearly break the naming policy, ones I should report but eh..i just dont report names. *CoughsHellokitty-Aznriceboycoughs* But GM's dont do anything about it..i'd have to say this is the most loosely GMed game I've ever played. Dang shame sometimes.

Ok since we exploited the question far enough, let's make this topic becoming a little bit funny.

I want everyone to post the name of player they find either interesting, stupid, useless, anything you think about someone's name.

I will start.

Cinnamonsstick.

hahahaha + it was a dwarf :)

In EQ a character I had since day one was changed after I'd been there for oh.... 3 years WITH THAT name. I asked the GM why he changed it and he could not quote me a single rule I had broken. I left the game at that point and sent quite a few nasty emails to SOE about it. (Most of my guild quit with me as well....)

The funny thing is I was a guide on another server and they all KNEW the names of all of my characters anyway. It was just this one guy who had a hair up his wazoo for some reaon. My name? Ikeepooh - a term I use to describe yucky things my kids shouldnt touch. Is that offensive? Oh and she was a troll BTW. Bwahahaha!

Anyway, SOE did return my email and offered to change the name back because it didnt break any naming policies but I was fed up and told them unless they fired that GM I would not be returning to the game.... *shyly....* although I did come back a few months later, LOL.

Anyway I guess my rambling point is, even if your name isnt terrible (I've seen some awful ones! Rumpledforeskinz??)its just a matter of time before someone is going to get in a tizzy over it.... hopefully the GMs this time around won't be ***** and we can all just have fun. For the record, your name wasnt terrible, it wasn't too creative BUT it was NOT worthy of a report.

Interestingly enough, in EQ1, there is actually a wolf named Snowflake in Everfrost:

http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=649

Now wouldnt it be funny, if the tables were turned back on your "friend" Snowflake? (refering to point #7 in the Naming Policy) Granted, in EQ1 Snowflake the wolf was not really significant, nor was it an NPC. But it did drop (randomly) an item that was used in a quest. It was also your friend when you were low on health. ;-)

I'd find that quite humorous... :-D

I have seen a lot of BAD names over the years. One that comes to mind is one that I just saw on EQLive a couple of weeks ago.

Frensh Lingerie.

It was a female wood-elf.... probably played by a guy but that is just me guessing [:grin]

I would not even worry about it myself. I doubt that a GM would even give a report such as that.

I have had the name Risk Sexsar in EQ1 for 4 or 5 years now and I have never once had anyone say anything about the first or the last name of my toon.

The funny thing is I was told that someone had the name Risk in EQ2 beta and they were told to change it because it was trademarked to a board game, and I tried to have that name in EQ2 and was told no. To funny I tell ya! Ticks me off to, because I have been using the name Risk for a very very long time (mud games). Oh well.

Yeah, I really would not worry about it tho. Just for the record there is a Snowflake and a Snowfall on Befallen Server. I think one is a bot or they are a couple (I'm going with bot).

You are guilty of a lack of imagination. I consider your name in bad taste, but not worthy of GM intevention (just maybe general avoidance).

Snowflake is also in violation of the naming policy. Snowflake is an NPC name from the original everquest.

Not that I condone such things, but some revenge could be had if you are so inclined to stoop that low.

i think at this point now the next names ((and derivations))can be quite hehe offensive :D

who cares what people make their name honestly

Well now I know why 'Sir Jesus of Band-Aid' was rejected. Seriously, you'd have to be createive to come up with a name that isn't in violation of their rules. Reporting evileruidite is asinine, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

As far as non-decent names go, I could care less what somebody else names their chars and really wish more people had that sort of mentality. Saw a guy in the chat with the name 'bongripz', just kind of gave it a laugh and kept on going. And 'priapizm'? Even I don't get that one...

Yea they can be quite sporatic about enforcing the name policy. I was "Fealix Theecat" in EQ1 and was hanging with my friend "Toadlicking Isunderated" in Grimling forest one day, and a GM comes in and says that his name was drug related and changed it to "Bagdreg Isunderrated". oh then he turns to me and changes my name to Fealix Kitty", saying that it was against the TOS! Well I didn't quite like that, so I got him to drop the "Kitty" part and was from then on the only 50+ toon I knew with no surname.... I was just mad they waited till we were level 52 and 52 to say anything to us.

Sadly this is not the first Fuzz member to be targeted for naming violations, our "Commanderhoek" is now "Derhoek" I am assuming for having the word Commander in it.

I think its kinda silly for a toon named "Snowflake" is throwing stones in that glass house of his though. Evil's name while not a perfect 10 on the creative scale is a variation of a name he has been known as for the last year to us in the Fuzz and even asked him if he would be "Evil" something on the boards before he even joined... Talk about petty.

/blacklist Snowflake
just for being a nitpicking *** on thanksgiving.

(oh and rate ups for all, even you Miravelle...lol)

Edited for spelling, its early

Personally, I could care less if a player is offended by a name I create. It's my $15, not thiers. However, if an SOE rises to challenge the name then of course I would necessarily have to defend it, hopefully sucessfully.

Some names I've seen are just irritating, but it's thier $15 too. I don't particularly like the 3007th version of chewbacca, or a new version of diarrhea.

In todays ultra supposedly sensitive (read selfish and 2 minutes of fame) I am aware that many of my Christian orientated character names might trigger what I would think would be an unwarranted complaint.

In todays world, reality or being right means squat. As many an HR representative will tell you, "perception IS the reality". It matter not whether we take care in naming be it becaise we want RPG like names or because we don't want to offend (shudders at the very thought of being politically correct.).

I have noticed that playing on an RP server varied nada zilch zip from a "regular" server. Actually, I like Snowflake; and Evilerudite too.

evilerudite? that doesn't make since. Who would name their kid that? it's stupid. I think when peaple do stupid stuff like that they should be given a cool name. like, over your head it should say Myrsmick! thats cool. or tars. if you wanna tell peaple you are a evileurdite, thats ok.

Some people have been known to legaly change their names from their birth names. I'm sure that a few people out there have heard of "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince". Talk about your stupid name Smiley: oyvey Just because it is not something you would name one of your toons, does not make it stupid. If he and his friends like it and it is not an outright violation of the naming convention then let it go. Also, as far as fantasy naming is concerned, the naming convention say should not must.

Yea I know what you mean... I made a human monk named Handjob and they made me change it. I told the admin I was a monk and I use my hands to do jobs. That didn't fly. What a prick!
