My EQ2 finally arrived after a looooong shipping delay woot!
I now got my Barbarian fighter to level 9 in 4 hours of play :)

Man, first thing on my to do list is to upgrade my RAM. I think I need another 1GB, the city lag is horrendous.
Awsome game though, specially if you can live with the graphics lag inside the city. And lag outdoors is not that bad.
Im also going to get a new SATA HDD and reinstall EQ2 on that drive to see if it makes any difference.

Current specs:
P4 3GHz
GeForce 6800GT 256MB (XFX brand/nonOC)
512MB RAM (needs a massive upgrade)
ASUS P4P800-DeluxeMB
WD 28GB IDE HDD (yeah yeah, it worked fine with FFXI lol)

o.O your computer rocks.. but why dont you just lower the settings a bit if its laggy.... to do that if your in eq.. click the box that says EQ on it.. then options.. then performance.. then I think its called uhh "performance settings" or something like that lol.. and just set it like one setting lower (if you have it on high quality, then set it to ballanced)

Yeah I switch to "Extreme Performance" when inside the city.
It lets me move around the city but I still get choppy graphics because of the massive HDD swapping.
Its funky though, all the characters faces are blank.

Outside the city, I can switch to a higher quality setting as long as its not too crowded.

I had the same problem with 512 RAM and I don't have the system you do. I had 512 RAM too.

I upgraded to 1GIG and the lag just went away, even in the cities. I now have no problems what so ever..I didn't even have to upgrade the graphics card.

Just add some RAM and you'll be fine.

Thanks for sharing your results with adding more RAM.
With my current system (and budget), RAM is really the only thing I can afford to upgrade. Smiley: yippee

Well, you're in luck because it appears to be the RAM that this game needs.

When I bought the RAM, the computer nerds at the store were telling me it wouldn't fix the lag and that I needed to purchase a 400.00 graphics card. (I am currently running a GeForce TI4200 64MB). I said, well, I don't have 400 bucks, so let me just try the RAM and if that doesn't at least help, then I'll ask for the card for Christmas.

So I came home, put in the RAM, and bam...everything was fine. In fact, I was shocked at how fast things were. It was taking FOREVER to zone and FOREVER to run through the cities because I was basically getting a slide show....but now, everything is fine.

With your system and graphics card and with the added RAM...you'll just zip through everywhere.

The GeForce TI4200 64MB is a nice card, although a bit dated.
I have one installed on my other computer and still runs FFXI nicely with a few settings turned down.
