I am new to EQ, and EQ2 ~ (obvi, everyone is) and was wondering how to handle reviving and the shard recovery. I just finished playing after 3 hours or so this morning. Had a great PT, lvl'd from 13 to 15 in the woods and BB. However just at the end of PT we all died and then I found myself all alone with a shard in BB. I stupidly tried to sprint to get it and made a MASSIVE train, where I died again, next to my spirit, of course. Ok so now I'm stuck with 2 shards in BB. I feel very frustrated after having such a good morning. Should I just forget the shards or make it my prority to get them back asap. I dont fully understand the debt system yet, as i have not gained xp with a shard out there, let alone 2. Any help in comforting me is appreciated. TY :)

I have yet to leave a shard. I always manage to get my shard back, even if it requires a huge train then runnin back towards the revival point, only to die again and repeat. wether this is a good idea or not I don't know.
I would be interested if anyone has not recovered their shard and what effects it has had.

I was forced to leave one behind when I did the Access Quest for Fallen Gate.

It's an instanced battle and I was solo'ing it. I managed to kill all the mobs and opened the chest at the end only to have it kill me (I had rested to 75% HP before opening it). I completed the quest since I killed the leader but I was not allowed back in and I couldn't get my shard back.

The only thing I noticed was about 100 HP missing (my HP was red when I opened my profile). Didn't notice anything else but I didn't look too hard.

Just last night, someone was shouting for help with the same quest. I offered my services to get my shard back.

I've heard that the effects of not retrieving your shard go away after 3 days. Verification anyone?

I managed to do a very impressive fall down the shaft of the Qeynos mage tower, landing on a small ledge about 3 meters above the floor (where the tapestries attach) and taking 600ish damage in the process. The resulting corpse was unreachable from the tower floor, to get to it I had to fall down the shaft to the ledge again, which'd still kill me. I gave in to inevitability and let my shard just lie there.

After 3 days, the shard & related quest had magically disappeared and all my stats were back to normal.

From what i understand you dont have to get the shards and eventually make the experience up, But it would take alot less tiem to find your shards and regain some debt.

I have also heard that you can right click entrance to zone and you will have a choice to retreave shard without actually zoning in.

Never tried it so not sure if it works

If you don't get your shard, you have other negative effects on your character besides the XP debt. Decreased HP is one that I've noticed. Even after you make up the XP, the negative effects exist until you recover your shard or the 3 day time limit is up.

Not much more to elaborate on.. If you have a shard in a dungeon, you can right click on the door (before you enter) and chose retrieve shard.

I can confirm that after 72 hours your shards will return. However the experience lost is gone and you will have debt to work off. I had 2 shards out in the peat bog at lev 11 and I had to leave them there until they returned. When the shards are out in the world, you will have lowered stats. All your stats will be red in your persona until they are returned. The more shards in the world, the more temporary stat loss. So your char will be gimped so to speak until you retrieve them or after 72 hours when they automatically return. Also if you die in a zone and find the instance is no longer there when you return, your shard will be in whatever zone number is available there, so no worries.

I did the exact same thing, I went up one of those teleporters, got laggy and couldn't move, then suddenly I was falling and dead. It was very frustrating.

I'm pretty sure that leaving a shard out there also reduces sta. but that would reduce HPs as previously stated anyway.

Ok, Im still not clear on this. If I decide to wait 72 hours and get my shards back, I will still have the same "%" debt? But all attributes will be returned to normal?

I tried right clicking on the zone before I enter (Vermin's Snye 3) to recover my shards and I do not have the option to "recover Shards"
