Ditching groups to avoid exp debt....SUCKSFollow

#1 Nov 23 2004 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all :)
One thing that my husband and I have noticed is a bad habit some folks are beginning to acquire. What we have been seeing is when things are looking bad, maybe you have to run or folks are starting to die, certain people are ditching the group in order to avoid the death penalty sharing. I think this is pretty low. I think that if you stick together, first of all getting your shard or getting a rez is much easier. It is also much easier to get that exp debt reduced faster. Have others been seeing this? I just wanted to make a post and try and get this stopped before it continues.

I've also seen people camping out...

The only time that I think that is acceptable is if it's the person in the group who will be rezzing everyone and there is no possible way they will live otherwise.

I havent seen this yet. Though I have seen some people leave after a group wipe, but not durring a tough battle.

Most of the people I have grouped with were former EQ1 players and take just as much joy in close white-knuckled fights as I do.

In fact, my closest call already was when I dropped to unconcious right as a heal hit bringing me back into the fight. That was a great fight, one person died but we all killed 5 orange con mobs.

Another time was when the group called to zone and I decided to stick it out, I was the only one in the zone (fallen gate) with 3 undead whacking on me at the IZ. just kept runing hoping someone would zone in to heal. At the last minute, while lom, the healer steps in and bonks me. Another person zoned in as we pollished off the last mob.

(oops.. I kind of wandered on that response)

I dont think this will ever stop...There will always be whiners out there, and the second things dont go thier way they will leave. Happens in eql, will happen 10x more here becuase of group dept.

Only real way I can see to try and stop people from doing this, is to write thier name down and try to make sure everyone you know, and everyone they know, know the guys name, and hopefully they will stop getting groups...That was the way we got rid of all the ldon babies on my server in eq1.

Just ooc there name and what they did, and people WILL usually try to avoid grouping with someone that they have heard bad things about, reguardless if they have ever group with the player or not.

I didn't think someone could disband from a group if anyone in the group was in a locked encounter without zoning.
#6 Nov 23 2004 at 4:14 PM Rating: Decent
Here another one that is going around. Someone will invite you into a group and then die repeatedly to give you debt.

You cant disband or leave but you can still log out (dont know about camping but you can turn off the computer to escape that dinky *** debt)

Id much rather have my character die with honor then run off like a wussy little schoolgirl. The harder the encounter the better.

I was in a 2 person PT with another player who wanted to do the orc leader on the IoR. While she was trying to get other people we went our seperate ways. We weren't really together, but simply grouped. After awhile I told her I was going to call it a night and a typed in /disband and a message said that I could not disband while someone in the group was fighting. After she was done fighting whatever it was I could disband.

Lat night I was grouping with with 3 other people. I think they are RL friends but anyways. One of the member keep randomly pulling mob and group of mobs without noticing me (tank) and we don't have any healer in the group. I died 3 times cuz of that. Needless to say I left the group but it wasn't in the middle of a fight.

I just hate people who run around without checking what's around them. It's ok if you're soloing, but if you're grouping, that could mean party wipe.

I have not seen this myself (because I group with the same folks always) but I have heardof it. It is cowardly and terrible to do. These yellow-bellies will get put on so many black lists they'll never find a group again.

The only time I can think this is ok to do is if RL beckons... being the mommy of three young children I know I can sometimes be called away in a hurry (trip to the ER for stitches!) but I try and minimize it as much as possible. People who leave just to avoid Debt suck.

put them on the /ignore list :), /ooc their name

In whichever order you like :). Seriously, though, if you've ignored them, you won't hear them try to find a group.

Hi Mirtai, we shared a group on Blackburrow the other night.

Sincerely.
I'm agreeing with everyone. And strongly disagreeing also.

Once, I was in a party and 6, and leading. The Cleric left so I invited another one at range, she died twice on the way to us. I kicked her out because I was pretty angry at him/her. And then that person /tell me and ask me why I kicked her out and that it was my lost. Yes indeed my loss. There is just alot of differences in the gaming skills of different players and sincerely, I hate having to pay for the stupid flaws of others.

After that moment, the whole group was upset, and everyone left. And it was such a good group, all of this because of someone that didn't know how to run and not get aggro. And don't misunderstand me, we were in front of the Gnoll cave at level 12-13 in Antonia. It's not that hard to follow a waypoint from the north gate to there.

Anyway, so now it just made me a bit more careful. I don't invite people from afar too much. And if someone in the group says they want to go afk from the group, I ask them to leave the group and send me a tell when they come back, if we are figthing a mob and they get aggroed by anything else spawning around, we can't protect him/her as we would want to and she might die for nothing.

I don't mind a good death. If half of the party dies when everyone stood their ground, it's just fine. But if we are goign somewhere, and that the person in the back get aggro and dies without ever telling anyone they were being attacked, that is just stupid.

Once again, last night, someone got aggroed. Didn't tell anyone, he had like 6 yellow/orange on him, and start running, and run into more of them, half the party died. Like, what the hell, tell your party you need help instead of running like a chicken with no head anywhere HOPING they will leave you off. I mean I'm an Enchanter, that's my job to help in those situation and it just pisses me off sometimes, but most people I played with knows how to play. It's always those now and then moment that you remember the most, never only the good.

Im not sure why everybody complains about debt so much. I know its a pain, but whatever doesnt kill you only makes you stronger right? Plus, xp debt slowly goes away when youre not logged on, watch it once.

I havent seen this happening but Im always grouped with my friends from EQ and I know them well. I do find it to be disturbing people are leaving their group behind. I can see saying something after a kill and walking away, but to leave in the middle of a fight just puts the rest of the group at a greater risk then it was before.

Well Guys I think that debt is part of the game and we have to live with it... I bought the game to have fun, I dont worry about exp and im lvl 22 already... lets just HAVE FUN!!! at least on EQ2 you dont have to waist 30-45min to regroup

peoloe that want to be the highest lvl on server or just wnat to get to Lvl 50 first, are the ones that bail the grp afer a bad pull... THATS NOT FUN AT ALL !!! If dont want to have any debt you should go a play WOW...

I dont know whats the big deal if by the time we login the next day debt is gone 90% of the time... un less you got wiped 3 times night before hehehe

well i play a lvl 12 crusader on faydark server. it is a very small server and you will mostly see the same people alot. when i group i allways start the group and maek sure that everything runs smoothly when i am group leader. the other day i was with a group i had just made. we needed a healer and the only one around was a lvl 9 priest. so of corse i invite him. BIG MISTAKE THERE. he was a total imbacile he got our group wiped 3 times. he would eather heal when you dident need it or not heal at all. one time he even went and started pulling........ now me as group leader decided this guy was an idiot and i did not want him. our group xp dedt was so high i still havent goten rid of it!!! well 3 people in the group told me it was him or them so naturaly i kick the bum. he then sends me a tell saying that it is my big loss and that i am going to get black listed for what i did....... he then trys to train us by grabing a group of gnools and runing then into our camp. =^) i love that no attack lock...... so he dies and we scater and then luagh at him. he gets even angryer and starts spaming that we trained him and were trying to ks him. i just said "HOW?" and people across the zone laughed at him. well the moral of the story is.... that as a group leader you sometimes have hard choices but you must allways concider whats best for every one not just the single person. well my rant is done so post and rate me =^)

Sorta off topic but along the same lines as the last post here.... *I* was the healer (and leader) of my usual group a few nights ago and some guy walks up and begs to be a part of the group. We dont normally like to pick up strays like that since we dont know them and sometimes they suck. Well we took him in cuz he was so sad looking all alone out there.... anyway, my husband (Tank) is usually the puller, we have our methods down toa science and while my hubby is pulling one group this dumb*** pulls another group WAYY too high for us to handle, we try and we succeed until the last two in the group he pulled finally took out (the new guy) so since I was OOP and hubby was OOP and halfdead we decided to yell and run it off so I could come and rez this guy.

First thing outta his mouth was "WTF don't you know how to heal!?" and proceeded to blame HIS death and HIS stupid pull on me though I kept his butt alive for an HOUR before his dumb pull. HE chose to break the group's pattern and pull a group of mobs WAY too high for us. He released himself instead of waiting 2 minutes for a rez... Anyway, my group jumped to my defense I simply told him "Right, I can't heal. Buh bye." and kicked him.

Yeah, group leaders need to make tough choices when it comes to teh "flow" of the group. I didnt like just kicking him like that but he would NOT take responsibility for his own stupid mistake, instead he kept throwing insult after insult mostly at me but also after the others in group. When one person doesnt know or DO their job it can bring an entire group to it's knees.

Cowardly Bastages!

Avoid Tenchi on the Crushbone server! He is a coward. Highest level in the group and bailed during a tough group fight.

BTW coward, we won.

I don't get it..

It takes 30 seconds to camp out and if things were bad enough for them to want to leave, they're not going to have 30 seconds left. Sure, they can kill the application manually but it still leaves them in the game for a long time before their character actually leaves the zone so they can't avoid it there either.

Dniem,

What server are you on? I will make sure to avoid you at all costs. Looks like with you if things don't go 100% perfect you get pissed and boot people.

edit: And in response to the original post. Just put them on ignore and don't group with them anymore. Problem solved. When it comes time for groups later in the game if they continue with it, they wont find any and leave soon enough anyway.

I really don't get people who do this. Death is really not that bad in this game. XP debt can be quickly made up and you don't have to worry about losing all your gear if you can't find/get to your corpse.
#24 Nov 24 2004 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent
Death sucks in anygame to say "exp debt aint that bad" is not somthing anyone with a right mind should say. Exp debt sucks. I don't liek Exp debt. It waste my very valuable time. I rether be gaining 10% exp toward my next lvl then my debt.

However leaving your group in middle of a fight is the lowest thing a player can do, and should be black listed right there and then.

In response to sputnik, if a noob can not get to a camp spot with out death, then by all means kick him/her. Not getting aggro is a basic learned ability, which if you play any kind of game where mobs aggro you, PC, system, or other... you learn.

on a side note Fallen Gate is the worst place in the entire world to exp in, way way too much chance to get adds and or have mobs spawn in your camp. I racked up about 50% debt at lvl 17 in FG and decided never to enter there again till I was forced too (Armor quest) so I simply found a better way way less dangerous area to exp at, and since then have been much happier.

Debt sucks. Leaving groups when they need you sucks also. Leaving a group after a wipeout is ok, you have freewill. Noobs suck. Do not party with people who can not navigate there way around commonlands, or antonica for the qeynos ppl.

The last bit is more for ppl above lvl 16 as by 16 you should kno your way around.

i just wanted to add my xp debt story.. i was in Blackburrow last night looking for a group to join.. anyways someone sent me a tell and invited me from afar. i was stil at the entrance and i didnt realize they were all the way at the bottom.. i wouldnt be able to get down with a litle help. so im still sitting there, not 20 seconds after i join 2 out of 5 of them died.. i felt kind of beaten up by it, but i still offered to try to get down and rez them.. anyways they were resting from the fight i could see their health/power going up (the remaining 3 that is) im still at the entrance trying to get down.. and the next thing i know 1minute and 30seconds into the group the rest of the 3 died.. 5 xp losses while at the entrance.. i probably dont have to say how pissed i was.. anyways, yes, xp debt sucks, and leaving a suck *** group warrents leaving :P

RunnyEye. And if you think I'm wrong and ever go on Runny, please avoid me. Although for my once safety.

Yes, UNWORTHY exp. debt sucks. If everyone did their job and then 2 of 6 dies, I will be fine with it. And exp debt does heal itself pretty quickly after anyway, just what I CAN'T stand is someone noob enough to make the entire group pay for they mistake. Like my example about, Sputnik, maybe you should read it again. And I'm going to write a post about Enchanter, please everyone read it, alot of people I played with totally takes the Enchanter skills away. Anyway you will see.

About that topic, I'm jsut more concious now that's all... In need of a good guild. -_-
