Couple of questions on Newb IslandFollow

#1 Nov 23 2004 at 12:10 PM Rating: Default
Hey guys. I am rapidly approaching the shipride to the main lands, but before I do I want to try and get as much done on the island. I have a few questions:

1) Do all vendors sell the same equipment/items? I have found 2 vendors and their lists are identical. I want to make sure that there isn't someone hiding with better stuff.

2) I am level five right now and reading the quests forums I noticed I may be inelligable to complete some quests i.e A Sandy Bone Shard. Should I keep trying it? Or should I not worry about it?

3) I notice I can't sell my starter sword. Do I need to keep this? I bought the better 2 handed sword from the vendor and don't really need it. I would like the money for it or at least the inv space.

4) Is it possible to convert 100 copper to 1 silver? I noticed that my copper count exceeds 100. Some items costs like 2s 2c and I only have 1s peice. Can I convert it or do I have to find it?

5) I found a level 8 artisan book, but my guy is to stupid to scribe it. Should I hang on to it or sell it?

6) Is there any way to avoid getting my butt kicked when I open chests before the restriction time is gone? I don't mind waiting, but it is a lot easier to just open it and rest.

Thanks for your help. I should be arriving in Qeynos this evening!Smiley: grin

Well, I have not yet got my copy of EQ 2 yet but if it follows anything like EQ 1 than you can convert your 100+ copper by going to the bank and clicking your money than putting it over the silver icon. It will make every 100 copper into 1 silver.

As for your starter sword, normally you can not sell this. Check to see if it is lore or no-drop. I doubt you can though.

1- I noticed some vendors do have different things but I can't speak with 100% certainty since there are SOOOO many vendors...

2- I actually missed the sandy bone shard quest cause I did other quest first.. didn't even know that one existed for a long time, by the time I knew about it.. all crabbies were very gray.

3- yeah I had quite a few unsellables too.. those with more experience could say if they have any purpose beyond the IoR... I kept them as long as I could but in the end just destroyed them due to lack of space. I can't say if this is good practice or not..

hopefully you won't need your starter weapon for a quest later.. like for example.. getting to the chicken level in dungeon siege.. one of the quest items for that is the very first knife you began the game with... O_O

4- I haven't found a way to convert 100 CP to one SP.. if you find a way please post it. ^_^

5- you found an artisan book.. *sigh* I just kept finding sharkbone sceptars... with my scout.. and my priest kept finding axes.. lol. ^_^ easy money IMO.

6- hmm.. opening chest.. the number two killer of PC's are treasure chest (well they were when I checked the stats on sony's main EQ2 board 2 days ago) all I can say.. is be at full health before opening or have a scout friend.

1) No clue on the vendors inventory. I only know of two vendors on IoR though. Once you get to the city there are all sorts of different vendors with different items.

2) If you have the quest started you can finish it. If you haven't yet started the quest you cannot get it, as it is started by a chest drop from a now-grey mob, and you don't get chests from grey mobs.

3) I don't know for sure, but I haven't yet found a use for my starter sword (and I honestly can't remember if I still have it or not).

4) Putting your money into your bank will automatically convert it to silver. I don't know of another way.

5) If you're planning on crafting I would hold onto it. When you hit crafter level 8 you'll be able to scribe it. If you're not really into crafting, sell it.

6) Only scout types can open the chests safely. I am not sure what ability (or abilities) they use to do this. I just take my chances and open the chest after a fight, unless I'm grieviously wounded (and then I open it as soon as I've healed).

On IoR, all vendors sell the same stuff.

I think the relevant crabs are grey cons at your level, meaning they don't drop any chests and hence can't start the quest anymore.

Don't worry about it. Unless you're aiming for the top spot on the quest ladder or somesuch, you're not missing out on anything important. There's about 100 quests you can do in Qeynos, so prepare to be busy if you're into that stuff.

The starter sword is "NO DROP" or "NO VALUE", I wager. Either way, you can't sell it to anyone, so toss it if you can replace it.

Yep, it's possible.

...

Oh, you want to know how? Go to the bank and hand in your fortune for automatic conversion.

Both :p

Basically, if you want to be an artisan, you'll want to hang on to it and scribe it when you hit artisan level 8. If you find artisandom boring, you'll want to buy a bulletin board when you get to Qeynos and sell the book to a player for 20 sp or so.

Be a Scout and disarm 'em. If not a Scout, wait for full HP and hope the server's RNG is on your side today. As a 14 Dark Elf Cleric, I can usually survive a Deadly Trap (highest damage) on a group chest a few levels below me (Specifically, I can take one from L12 group mobs, the worst stuff I can actually solo). It'll knock me to -1 HP and leave me unconcious, but I survive.

Good hunting!

Crap, I remember getting that shard now, but I didn't examine it to get the quest. I hope I didn't sell it. Should I start my game over if I didn't keep it? How important is this quest? I would like the chance to do as many quests as possible. I will also be careful from here on. I don't know if I like the idea of quests that can't be completed once you reach a certain level.

None of the noob island quests are important, most of the items you get from there are replaceable or upgradable as soon as you zone into FP/QN.

There are only two main theme quests I would make sure I accomplish. Finish the crafting quests, and finish your class armor quests. Simple quests and nets you some xp and noob armor.

Also I would kill the named goblin to get the goblin bag.

The quest only gives you some cp. Not essential to complete.

I would point out that you don't really need to convert the coin. If you have on you say, 1sp 123cp, then in effect you have 2sp 23cp. If you go to a vender with your 1s123 and he's selling a dagger for 2s12, then you can buy it, without actually converting your money ahead of time. You'll be able to buy it, and will automagically have 11cp left over, if my math is right.

Ok that shard quest only gives you a def 3 or so amulet that gives a small + to power and hp.. I really wouldnt worry about it too much.. Or if your all tore up about it get some newbie on the isle to kill crabs then let you open the chest. Or jump from instance to instance untill you find a chest laying on the ground <that someone left> alot of times it will drop 2-3 times for one person and they just leave them since its a lore item.

Also the amulet of the scorned is better on the newbie isle.. Kill the shadow serpents and you might get one. It also drops a ring but by god i got every thing else on the isle EXCEPT for the ring. That includes killing all the named mobs and getting their rare drops and there is a bunch of them.

On converting money:
After finishing about 30 quests in Freeport last night and selling most of the resulting items to vendors, I was walking about with around 2500 cp. The weight of that put me well over my encumberence limit and having a permanently slowed run speed is no fun.

Agreed, it might not matter much on IoR since no one really risks coming close to weight capacity without bags. However, later on you might have to lug around a few dozen heavy items worth of loot after a playing session and to do that you need to minimise coin weight.
