Just wondering will anyone buy the guide or has anyone bought it already? Is it worth the money? I remember there was a thread that discusses this before but that was in a time the guide is not yet available.

I remember buying the Prima guide for EQ1, many years ago and it was a total waste of money. It never told me anything I didnt already know from playing the game for a few hours, reading the instructions book and it certainly had nothing on the likes of Allakhazam for info. Unless they have drastically changed the format of their guides I would forego on it and just stick to reading all the fan-sites. It's even worth getting a sub to Allakhazam when it gets more populated with data. I have done with EQ1 and SWG and found it a lot more useful than any book I have read.

And, NO, I am not an employee, friend or relative of allakhazam :)

Cheers
Minky

I looked for it while I was in EB this weekend and they said it won't even come out until next Monday the 29th. Which probably means that Prima is updating with accurate material on the day it was released, oddly enough they had the WoW strat guide but the game isnt due out till today or tomm.

Depending on how complete it is, it might be nice to have as a hands on reference, but for more up-to-date info that's what this site is for :)

It is coming out next week in paper form. but you can get in personalized PDF for now from the Prima website. or via the news articles in www.everquest2.com you may print it out for yourself but you may not share the file with anyother pc so be ware of this.

I have the EGuide.. its crap.. hardly any of the quests are in it.. the only thing that is worth is the Maps of the areas that dont have maps in the game but im sure in a little while Allakhazam will have those too.. so dont waist your time and money buying the guide

my 2 cents

As a general rule, any guide by Prima is junk. They aren't known for having a very good staff, most guides have misprinted quests, locations, or don't finish printing everything. (Their Fable strat guide had a few quests that are missing pieces - parts of the sentences are actually cut off/incomplete) Considering how late the guide book already is, I would say they are still playing the game to find out.. or just scanning this site and copying from that.

I totally disagree...

I bought the online guide and think it is a great collection of information for the cost.

Most of the info is general knowledge that some players already know, but many do not; The maps are detailed and look nice; has tons of artisan recipies; and it has most of the newbie quest walk-throughs.

The guide is basically just a collection of general, easy to obtain information for new players up to about level 20-25. It has little that Allakazam does not have or will not have soon. However, I like the way it is written and presented and it is easily worth the $9.99 I paid, if for just the maps and recipies alone, but the organization and easy to read format allowed me to find several quests that I missed on my own and via Allakazam.

If you want a guide (or reference manual) then I would say spend the ten bucks.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

What good are recipies if you cant use them till you get them in game? or am i mistaken about this because if i am then i take back what i said about the guide. but i do agree on the maps they are great. Now if Sony would let us have maps in game for those areas with the the abilitiy to place markers on them .

I have purchased the e-guide and regret it not because I don't think the material is good but because of the whole "can't share with other PCs" since I can't share it with my laptop...

Anyways

The race section was already outdated - showing the Barbarians with lower WIS then they have. I don't know how accurate the other stuff is regarding races, since I haven't really looked into it.

Recipies are useful for looking ahead to what might be a high demand item or to know what you should stock pile up on.

The maps are very useful I will say. Even for the zones where you have an in-game map it does at least tell you where all the NPCs are. And since the waypoint system in EQ2 is actign funny - I find it usefull.

Even if the quest lists aren't complete - it gives me something to work off of to get me started.

It does seem pretty complete for the character abilities though - and the Heroic Opportuinties section seemed ok.

Over all I prefer Brady Games strategy guides to Prima - they did fairly well on FFXI and their WoW guide looks ok.

I agree that the guide is worth 10 bucks, but the fact you can't copy it over to a laptop is crap. So no don't buy it.

However I found that you may be able to open the file anyways because of a Law in Russia that states users must be able to make at least one backup of all files :) So some software exsists, but I have yet to hack it.

All I want to do is print it now Prima! Ya Cheap bastards! I mean come on, I have a color laser printer at work I can use! But no, I can't copy it to another pc, well yet.

I bought the Prima Guide for L2 and used to read it alot. I also had the Prima Guide for the EQ Trilogy and read that one alot. Now that I'm more experienced with MMO's I probably won't be buying the guide, however if u are new to the game they are definitley worth it. Sure some of the quests are wrong and alot of times the currency is messed up in the guides, but they have many advantages too. Stuff that you can easily look up while playing the game or at work.
