I was looking at the bulletin board the other day and saw some crafting supplies I wanted. I remembered reading that if you go directly to that persons house/hotel room you can buy directly from them and avoid the 20% broken commission.

I set out to the area where this player was living (its lists there name and location on bulletin board) and went to the inn they were staying at. I right clicked on the hotel door where the little house icon comes up and one of the options (visit) brought up a list of people, I found the one I wanted to buy from and chose visit and bam.. I was in their house! This surprised me a bit, but they were standing there with a Merchant prefix on there name. Right clicking on them brought up an option to buy from merchant.

I don't know how many people know about this but I think its really cool and will be a good incentive for merchants to keep their houses tidy and get some cool items in there for customers to look at. I'll be crafting up some furniture for my house before I start bazaaring again :)

Yeah this is pretty cool. Ive been using it from the start. Also lets me show off my baby dragon. Most entertaining one was when i walked in and the merchant was using feign death and lying in the middle of the floor.

This is probably one of the only incentives I can think of for people to buy furniture. It'd be pretty neat to set up a store/office appearance for people as they come in!

Is there a way to stay connected if I am not playing... it seems silly to me to sit around and wait in my room for people to come purchase stuff.

Is that really what people do? Or can I just leave my player in the room all day without playing?

Yes, just simply go into Merchant mode and leave for work/sleep. That's what I do. I'm teaching a class right now but my Merchant is selling away my goodies :) There is no need for you to physically be there. Whatever you have listed for sale, people can purchase without your assistance.

You buy a bulletin board from the furniture store in N.Freeport (sorry I don't know Quenyos location) and then place it inside your apartment/house/inn room. Then you can click on it to bring up the bazaaring menu.

Set prices for items you want to sell and click "Start Selling". As long as you stay in your room you will be a merchant and people can buy from your store through brokers for 20% extra fee or come and visit your house and buy direct.

Once you click on "Start Selling" (or something similiarly worded) on your bulletin board, your name automatically becomes Merchant <name>.

Slightly off topic... I think I got both demographics, male and female, covered. And yes, this will be a stereotype, but this is all in jest... I have a cute dragon for the females and a nice painting of Empress Anassa (or whatever her name is). ^^

And if anyone wants a little break, I got a nice bench you can sit on. Maybe I'll get into cooking so I brew up some drinks for customers too.
