ok where are the best spots to skillup on harvesting? Most nodes and what level do they trivial at? Next having a high harvesting skill while not tradeskilling up is that a good idea or a wast of time? Is there any way to get the most improves for a particular harvesting skill? Most of the time i find that i get junk and end up destroying it. Should i be saving this stuff. Has some one put the time in on this?

I believe your harvesting skill can not go above the cap set by your tradeskill level. Harvesting would be a waste of time if you toss everything you got from them. If you end up selling the stuff via your bulletin board, however, then I figure a high harvesting skill would be good so you can get more and sell more.

I'll assume you don't have any harvesting skills above 40? If so, then you probably will only be able to harvest in the newbie zones (Oakmyst Forest, Peat Bog, Forest Ruins, etc).

Everything you get from the points are worth keeping as they are the raw components that crafters need. Tin for smithing, wood for woodworking, salts for cooking and so forth.

If you won't be crafting, I'd politely suggest you don't harvest. That way the crafters who do need the components can get them. If you need the cash, I can't, and don't want to, stop you from harvesting and selling them. You pay for this game as any other and can do what you want. But please think of others if you just destroy the components you harvest.

But there are quests which require you to harvest... And please correct me if I am wrong, by increasing your havesting skill, doesn't it increase your chance of harvesting a quest item by having a higher 'harvesting' skill?

hehehe... Yes, you'd be correct (I haven't gotten a harvesting quest outside the trade society tasks, btw). But my comment was for the situation where one just destroys the components they receive from harvesting. If you do quests you'd be rewarded and they'd be taken off your hands, no?

If you do it for skilling up, just be thoughtful for those that need those items. Granted more points will spawn and essentially no one loses out, but still. I'd rather buy the components from someone who had already gotten them (for a reasonable price, of course), than spend the time searching for the points. And as far as what I've seen, points do not just spawn immediately after one previous has been used up, which would make those that craft have to spend the additional time waiting for the spawn and hunting for it.

This is why alot of us craters are selective harvesters. I will not touch a natural garden because I can not use anything that I get from them. Also leave fish alone unless there is no one harvesting them which decreases spawns on other items. But dont get in the way of my lumber, tin or lead. Even if you are i wont steal though, its not nice. :D
