In the zone Isle of Refuge, the goblins there sometimes drop an item called a goblin ear, a goblin spine, and i believe several other items, they are all LORE items. the Goblin ear saids "It appears that this item could be studied to learn more about the nature of the goblin." I was wonder if this item, and some of the other LORE items, like it belong to a quest... like the quest in Commonlands, where you needed to get some items from the Orcs, and they were LORE, and said something similar to the above qoute. so again are these items apart of a quest.
They are for goblin mastery. Get all the pieces and you get goblin mastery.
The Quartermaster sold the book that lets you start studying them in beta but they took it out in retail. I don't know where to get it at now.
Mastery gives you a special attack against that type of enemy. I believe there are also different levels of mastery but I'm a little sketchy on the particulars. There are masteries for other types of mobs too. All of them hae their own quests. For example there are undead, elementals, gnolls, orcs... I'm sure many others as well.

They changed that right at the end of beta. You now get the mastery stuff as you level. I haven't seen those books in the game lately, so that stuff may now be worthless.
On the other hand, I'm saving everyone I find, just in case. :)
The books are still in the game but now the quest gives you a trophy to put in your house and stuff. The books are no longer bought but in places throughout the world. The eq2 stratics page has a list of some of the locations. You can get to the thread when you login before you click play there should be a link to it in that top section.

thank you for the info guys.... you would think that they would stop having them as a Lore item
Is this related to the "[mob type] Hunter" titles? I thought those were for just killing large numbers of them.
