I have a quick question... What is the minimum video card that can run this game?
#2 Nov 18 2004 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
it must have at least 64 mb of Ram and it needs to support shadder technology. but considering how laggy my game can be even with 256 mb of video ram i don't recomend running it on anything less than 128. Also just forget running it on any card that isn't an Nvidia or ATI card. almost none of them support shadders. And you won't be able to use the Nvidia Geforce 4 MX cards because they don't support shadders either, The Geforce 2 TI cards will work find though.

What Video cards are supported with EverQuest II?

Question
What Video cards are supported with EverQuest II?

Answer
To check the compatibility of your video card you may use our system scan utility http://everquest2.station.sony.com/systemscan/. If your video card is supported the supported driver for your card will be listed below. For instructions on how to update and install new drivers, please visit our Tech Support Installing Sound Video Drivers information. Be aware that many cards require that you properly uninstall your previous drivers before installing any new drivers. Not doing so can cause visual anomalies, system instability, and inability to render 3d properly.

There is only 3 graphics card around $200 that you should even consider buying.

1) ATI 9700/9800 PRO+.
The 9700pro is obsolete, but the 9800PRO and 9800XT are very good cards that delivery excellent performance at a good price.

2) NVidia 6600GT / AGP
This new card beats the ATI 9800 series hands down, by a decent margain, but costs a good amount more. Do not accidentally buy the PCI-Express version. 99% of the people reading this post do not have PCI-Xpress compatiable computers.

3) Nvidia 59xxx
This cards were designed to compete with the ATI9800 series. You might be able to find them for a great price, but I would recommend the next-generation 6600GT, since it costs within $100 of the better 5900 cards.

DO NOT GO CHEAP WITH YOUR GRAPHICS CARD. YOU WILL ONLY DO A GREAT DISSERVICE TO YOURSELF.

$200-$250 is the sweet spot. Spend this amount of money, and you will be extremely satisfied. Spend less, and you will be VERY unsatisfied. Spend more (say $450 on a 6800GT) and you won't be unsatisfied, but you'll have $200 less to spend on a nice new CPU or memory upgrade.

MMORPGs are expesive. You will be spending $180 a year to play EQ2. Do not be cheap and buy a ****** graphics card like an ATI9200 or NVidia 5400. SPEND THE MONEY. YOU WILL PROBABLY PUT 50+ DAYS OF YOUR LIFE INTO THIS GAME. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY.

Buy Pro or GT verisons of these cards. DO NOT BUY SE CARDS. SE is not "Special Edition". SE cards are the **** edition. Nvidia cards with no suffix are crap too. Avoid them like the plague.

It is better to buy the XT or Pro version of a cheaper card than the no-suffix or SE version of a better card. The SE/cheap cards are often extremely crippled versions of the good cards. Avoid them. The XT/Pro/GT cards are always fantastic. Lesser XT/Pro/GT cards are usually top performaers in their price range.

For a good idea of how the various cards compete, check out Tom's Hardware's VGA Graphics Benchmark Charts at the follow link:
