Harvesting SpotsFollow

#1 Nov 18 2004 at 5:55 PM Rating: Decent
This is an on going issue that really irritates. Infact, those who run over start harvesting on my spot gets ignored. The question I am asking is:
Since adventures are able to prevent steal killing, shouldn't Artisans beable to prevent harvest stealing?
Let me know what you think

I think it would be a good idea for them to lock the harvesting spots in the same manner that the battles are locked when one is fighting a mob. It's very frustrating and annoying to be running around a zone collecting materials and have someone else always coming up to you and taking half of the spawn point.

You would think that people would have the common courtesy to see that someone is alreaady standing there, hunched over, gathering or mining or whatever and they would move on to the next spot, but that is rarely the case. And most of the time, if you say anything they ignore you or are rude.

The other night I was running around the Forest Ruins and this highelf was actually following me, always a few steps behind because I was using pathfinding, but as soon as I started harvesting a point I found she would be right there a couple seconds later. It's hard enough to find the points in the crowded zones sometimes, but at least they have upped the spawn rate in the last patch, and thank goodness for instanced zones, if you have someone following you like that at least you can try another zone.

I'm of mixed opinions about this. I think that in all fairness these should not be locked. I get frustrated too when someone comes up and starts harvesting something I have started on, but such is life.

If we compare to mob encounters then each harvest point should be considered 3 mobs. A person cannot steal the harvest from you if you have already started on it, you still get your one item. Wanting all 3 harvests could also be considered rude and greedy, couldn't it? If I pull one mob from a group of 3 and someone comes along and grabs another one while i am fighting, then so be it.

Having locked encounters is both a good idea and a bad idea in my opinion. It prevents kill-stealing, but it also prevents us from finding out what kind of people we are surrounded by. There is very little left in EQ2 to seperate the good players from the bad, the rude from the courteous.

If we all start ignoring people that "steal our" harvests then all we are doing is creating a loss for ourselves. Who knows what these people might do for us some time?

I think my point is, don't be too quick to judge, and try and be a little patient when harvesting.

Yes this is an issue. The best way to prevent someone from stealing your harvest spot is to train everyone in the zone you are in mercilessly, they will grow tired of dieing and eventually log.

Hmmmm... this is a tricky one. I am normally a very courteous guy in life and in games. I always play Healer types and have committed many, many random acts of buffage and rezzes in EQ1. That being said, I have found myself "sharing" resource nodes when someone is harvesting. Reasons: 1) I have a tradeskill quest, harvest 15 sullied animal pelts, hey, I want to finish my quest. Most people do not have a quest and are probably working on skills or getting raw materials for tradeskilling... I think at least we each have as much right to harvest 2) I have already seen people standing near a node, then realize as they run away that they were not harvesting, they were standing... so if I see someone as I run up to them and I can see them bending over facing the node, I run on by, but if I come up on a node and click on it before I realize someone is there, then I take one "hit" and leave. I never get mad when someone else comes to harvest "my" node... cause it's a game and if I want to get annoyed, I'll log off and rejoin real life ha, ha, ha!! :) :) :)

If I find a node that someone is standing near I wait a few seconds. If they don't harvest it, then they probably were never harvesting and are either idle or had no intent to harvest in the first place.

If I find them harvesting, I leave them alone.

No complains so far, so it seems to be a good policy.

As was mentioned earlier, there are 3 per spot. Probably that way just for this reason. I.e. not likely more than 3 players at a spot at one time. If you are the only one there think of it as gravy, otherwise share it with others who need it as well.

I'll agree that harvesting can be annoying when you spend that time watching the ticker go down and then have it disappear at the last instant because someone snuck up behind you or was around the corner and doing it also... but making a full node locked for all 3 harvests seems a bit ridiculous to me.

First off, they would have to up the spawn rate & number of nodes considerably in order to account for the fact that only one harvester could interact with one node.

Second, if they wanted to make it locked it would have to go by the same rules as the combat encounters. You "must" fully finish the encounter in order to get your reward. You cannot simply get what you need and leave. This would also lead to weird deals with people being in groups while harvesting.

I think the only feature I'd like to see would be a message that let's you know when the potential attempts have already been started by another player. I'm not super possesive, but I am kinda manic at times and those few seconds can get me irked after awhile. People tell me I should've played a bard in EQ1, lol.

Will everyone just stop making these topics? Each person is going to decide what to do on their own you should try not to be irritated, irked, pissed off, vengeful, etc. when someone harvests near you or the same one that you are harvesting.

No amount of posting is going to change that. Just share and stop feeling angry that someone took 'your' node.

And please, just stop making these threads. There are at least 5 already.
