Hello everyone
Once in a while I get real and i mean REAL lag and drop in fram rate - it appears that EQ2 uses up 99% of my cpu which is really strange.
Here is my system info:
Athlon 2600 2ghz
1bg ram dual ddr channel
geforce 5700
512k broadband

I play on high performance settings - do you have any clues??
Thanks for any info

Well 2 Ghz is the recommended spec so I would say you're right on the edge. first things first, make sure nothing is running in the background. Then if it appears nothing is in your taskbar. CTRL+ALT+DEL and clicks processes. Close anything that is open under your username. Typically they are not needed for anything system wise. Or else it would be listed under system.

Try to play then and see what happens. Also check your resolution. Although you have it on High Performance you could still be killing your card and CPU. If you have a regular 5700 and not an Ultra I would suggest Very High Peformance and maybe even 800 X 600 screen res to see if that helps. Do them one at a time though, so you know which one is actually helping you the most..

Hmm... check backgroudn processes...

I'm running:

Athlon XP 2400+
1GB RAM
FX5200 Ultra

and I'm getting nowhere near 100% usage... admittedly it get up there but it doesn't stay up in that range. I only have lag aproaching severe in the heavy parts of the city, and even then it's still tolerable. I run on High Performance most of the time, with a few tweaks (like adding flora).

I'm running
AMD 800 mHz
512k RAM
Nvidia 4600 128k

I know this is why my comp is so laged running EQ2, but it sounds like your having the same issues with a mutch better processor and more RAM. Maybe the problem is not the CPU but your Video card? Another thing to check might be spyware or adware if you don't regularly us things like spybot searth and destroy or ad-aware se. One more thing I can think of is how much room is on your hard-drive as the comp uses the extra space for virtual memory when needed, you can also up the virtual memory if needed as well.

Hehe, didn't see your vid card spec NM your card should be up to snuff.

If the CPU is not running at 99% all the time, then when the lag starts, look at the harddrive activity light on the front of your computer. Is it on while the lag happens? if so it is an access problem with your drive.

If not, then there is a program running in the background that is takeing up the CPU usage. considering you most likely have Windows for an OS, I would not be surprised. Do a intense check for viruses, and spyware/adware. Then try to start the game, and then go into the task manager under processes and try to find the program that is useing the CPU up. If the process is called SVHOST, then you pretty much hosed. SVHOST is a kind of roll up process that compbines a bunch of small processes into one. I have heard that there is a way to find out what processes are running in the SVHOST, but I have been unable to find out how.

Anyway, if it is the SVHOST, which there can be several. You can try to end that process. If you can't, your best bet is to reinstall your system. If it is another process, write it down, end it, and do a search on your drive and the internet for what the process does. You way be able to disable the process compleatly.

Good luck
