Hi, in EQ1 I loved playing Druids, Necros, Bards. I liked not feeling "locked in" and being able to do lots of different things - esp. w/ a Druid. I could solo (quad, snare and nuke, root-bomb, root-DoT, etc.) - and I could heal in a party - and I could nuke in a party - I could port almost anywhere, etc.

Just got EQ2 the other day (finally) and already feel like I'm on a very "tight leash" - I literally feel the hand of the game designers reaching in and stopping me from doing cool stuff. I've also started finding guides saying what the spells are up to lvl 45, and I definitely get the sense that classes are "reigned in" - very muted and limited compared to what they could once do.

Am I missing something? Can someone who has played up a bit tell me I'm wrong? I don't want flamers telling me I'm nuts - thank you - this is of course a subjective thing. If you dig EQ2, cool - I'm very happy for you. But I have strong reservations about investing any more time in this game. If there is a class that can "stretch its wings and fly" and not just get locked into one job in a party, please let me know (I'm sensing that Fury might be the one - it seems they can do damage and heal - but they're a far cry from the almost infinite flexibility of the EQ1 druid).

Btw for me the answer is not to craft, thanks. I burned out on crafting when I gave up on the Shawl Quest - and have sworn never to do it again. The EQ2 crafting system looks like ... well imo insane asylum admissions will go up across the world because of it. But that's just me ;o) . Again, if you dig it, I'm happy for you. Maybe I'll buy something from you.

And yes, it may very well be I should ebay my eq2 account (I've yet to claim the boots or dragon - I might even make a profit) and go back to EQ1. But I hope not. I'd love to find a niche in this new game - pls help me if you can. Thanks.

Druids are pretty much the same thing but they are now better at healing. The teleport and druid ring spells have been removed entirely from the game but they have added griffons to allow you to get to different areas within a zone. Druids still have SoW, DoT, Nuke and heals though.

The difference is that the classes are so powerful in their own right that trying to be a jack of all trades will hurt a class. What you need to look at is not the base class but the subclass. Look at eq2players website and decide which description better fits your play style and go with that. If you want to be the same character that you were in EQLive, you can't. This game no longer plays like EQ, it plays like a bit of DOAC and FFXI with the EQ theme.

Personally, I thought that druids were way too powerful in EQ. But that's different now because all classes can solo in EQ2. There are mobs made specifically for Solo (they so say under their name) play as well as group. Granted, you will get more xp, better items and faster in a group but that's how it should be. The better stuff is deep inside a dungeon where a solo player can not go or be able to kill creatures. This is an entirely new game. If you want to pick up a new game with the EQ theme, this is your game. Don't expect to pick up EQLive with better graphics though.

Thanks - was afraid of that. I was off reading other threads - and found FFXI comparisons and comments all over the place. I never tried DAOC or FFXI for the same reasons I'm wary of EQ2. I guess I'll have to see if I can get used to this new type of highly limited and restricted play.

It's fine to say that I'm somehow wrong - that druids were way too powerful - that it never should have been like that. But old EQ was perversely balanced in spite of that (it's too long to explain why - if you really played, you know what I mean). Believe me, everyone was jealous of someone else - always (this is what having Alts was all about - seeing if the grass really was greener on the other side of the fence).

The problem for me is that I've done the group play thing, and I've even been in my server's top raiding guild. And it just gets really dull for me - if that's "all" there is (again, I will never craft - so that's not an option for me). And I've master old-eq soloing - did it all - execpt some high-end bard stuff (was afraid of getting carpal tunnel syndrome). So there isn't much left for me in old eq. I guess so many players despised those of us who mastered the exotic soloing techniques that they decided to kill it. I find that sad - something a large number of gamers really loved is now dead. I'm depressed because the "free for all" and "wide open" aspect of this kind of game seem over - in favor of brain-crunchingly tight controls.

I'm already reading players saying "please don't let eq2 inherit the worst aspects of FFXI!!!" (meaning, they say, that only certain classes can get groups, and everyone must do their job perfectly or get screamed at). I'm already seeing that people who can't master a cross-HO are being booted out of groups. Maybe this is a sign that I've wasted enough of my life on these stupid games....

I won't give up yet. Maybe I can find something to like here. If anyone reading this has any ideas, please tell me. Thx.
