Archery and Rangers?Follow

Anybody know if archery in EQ2 can be used as a main source of fighting? I'm heading towards ranger class, brand new to anything involving EQ (fresh off of FFXI), hoping that Rangers can even slighty compare to the damage dealing of FFXI rangers. ;) any help or info I woudl greatly appreciate. Thanks :)
