Hey,
If you're new or haven't bought the game yet, in EQ2 you gain experience by achieving quests.
I got level 8 without beating any mobs but the few I needed to kill to finish my quests. And the expe and reward they give is good so far (so far, got the game on last friday). I have about 15 silver now :)
I don't know if it was the same in EQ1 so maybe you already knew :p
Also I try to do the quests gathered in the same areas so I don't run around losing time.

Thanks for the info GilgameshAngelic. I was hoping that EQ2 would be more quest and less of a kill grind like EQ1. Still waiting for my package to arrive and looking forward to getting online.

Then you're gonna love it.
At first it looked to me like a mix of Baldurs gate and Sims online.. lol (dont ask..dont laugh) I really felt like I had spent 70 bucks for nothing.. plus the lag I was miserable...anyways, now we really like it, it's great.
Also if you dont want to do the available quests you can still go outside and fight mobs.

...
Is it true that I get the option of being whatever I'm going to decide to be at level 20 and not before? This, I still don't get it :P

Yes and no. Once you choose your main archetype you can only do abilities for that job. When you get to 8~9 and have to choose your class, then you get to see the two choices. You won't be able to play around with the skills for those jobs, but just get to see their sides of the coin. Then when you get close to 20, you'll be presented with the pros and cons of your subclass and then choose from there.

Personally, I thought one could switch jobs before level 10 but I don't know if that's possible. Too late for me, anyways.

Artisan is the facet that you can dabble in all jobs because before level 10, you are able to make any and all recipes from all different facets (woodworking, smithing, alchemy, etc). But once you get to 10, you get more specialized. You could make items from the other crafts, but they won't be of comparable quality.

I'm still in my 12th season as warrior and 8~9th season as artisan so all this could be wrong. :P

While this is true, remember to balance it out, and get a good amount of fighting in there. If you manage to get to a higher level, and too much of the exp came from quests instead of fighting, your fighting skills will be weak.
I'm not sure how hard it is to catch up on, say, a weapon skill that you let fall behind, but if I remember right it was a real pain in EQ1.

Tell me about it, I had to reinstall my system and the only game I have for now is EQ2, I'll put FFXI back tomorrow. I have been lazy about it and caught in eq2.
Eph was supposed to send a tell in game to tell you about that, guess he didnt :/
Anyways, tomorrow or on thursday I should be back.

About my scout I found, I picked up bard at level 10, well 9 +100%.
