races and classesFollow

Im new to EQ and I have a newbie question for those who may know the answer. I want to create a mage class, a wizard. And I want this mage to be a wood elf. Will a wood elf mage be a bad choice? I have read that the wood elfs, as they are quite weak on intelligence are not good choises for mages. Anybody know if this is correct?

I believe that is true, high elves and dark elves make good mages if you want to go the elven road. Erudites make good mages too. Basically, you want the race to have high natural intelligence since this is a mage's primary stat, which wood elves don't. However, if you want a wood elf mage, make one! It shouldn't hurt you too much, you'll just have to try to make up the intelligence in gear, and besides, you have to play the character, so make sure you'll enjoy it. Good luck to you and have fun :)

It should only really effect you for the first couple levels. After that it is easy to make up all the stats in armor. This allows people more of a choice on what they want to be. At least that is what alot of the beta testers where saying on here a week ago.

There are advantages to making a non erud/high elf mage, for one both erud's and HE's have low STR so they can't carry that much loot, and although i don't know if there is an int cap like there was (atleast at the start) in EQ1, eruds can reach that cap more easily, and then concentrate on other things like STR, or resistances, but other races already have slightly better resistances/other stats. by the time you get into the 30's/40's it will probably have all evened out, but it will probably be harder to get there. On the plus side though you will be more individual than the thousands of mages who are erudite, or High elven
