Got Lag? Try ThisFollow

Ok, I know, I know..."It's soooo laggy I can't play!".

After making sure all your video and sound card drivers are up to date and that you have at least 512 (1 gig is much better) of memeory and find our you still have lag...do the following:

In game click on options
Click on the plus sign to the left of the word performance
Click on the drop down menu that's first on that list
Select "High Performance"
Click on "Accept" at the bottom of the screen

Wo-lah!

Now, yes it resets a few things on ys . And yes, some things might not be the uber uber settings you were trying to play at but , heck!, if you can't play ya can't enjoy those uber settings anyway, right?!

When there are less players on or you're in a less densly populated zone go back thru all tht and reset that to "Custom" instead of "High Performance" and then you can set all the who-digits to anything ya want providing yor computer and moniter can handle it.

Oh yeah, it really is a good idea to syncronise your refresh rate with your moniter. It's in that same area under "Performance".

Also, Set your scrren resolution to anything you think your video card and moniter can handle but make sure it's at the 72 and not the 60.

Well, that's my 2 copper's worth.

Good luck and greast playing, folks!

I had my brother (who has a lower level system) try the "very high performance" setting to start. Once you get used to the game, you can always go back and play with individual settings to make the world prettier.

(And I'm hopeful that they'll tweak performance in the first few patches.)

Yes, 1k of ram DOES make a difference, I ******* about the lag, ready to leave EQ2, aware that I had to buy a new 512 stick of ram, I have now 1k DDR and the game is running smooth.
I'm on "high performance" and it looks nice enough I didn't try something prettier yet.
I'm waiting for the big load of the week end to see how it runs.
Also updated my video drivers fixed the crashes I had.

I hope you mean 1GB ram and not 1KB Ram. If not, you must have the most uber motherboard and main CPU in existance. 1KB is what my oooold 286 had AFTER i upgraded the memory!

Ok, though I don't see the point of your post Anhari I'm gonna answer you, yes I mean 1K, 1024 to be precise.
Knowledge is like butter, less you get, more you spread.

He was referring to 1K as in I have 1k gold (1,000) not as in 1KiloByte :P It all makes sense now!

I run a 1.7 ghz pentium M laptop, with a 9600 Radeon 128mb video card. I used to run 512 mb of ram. I couldn't get through Qeynos without spending about 15 minutes in each section. Zones loaded in about 2-3 minutes. Sometimes when I played for over an hour, zones refused to load and I got back to the char-selection screen.

Today I upgraded to a 1 gig of ram. I get no slowdown anymore in Qeynos and zones loaded in about 15-20 seconds. This was around 1 PM , so not exactly peak hours, though. Still, huge differences.

Moral of story: go buy more ram, a better video card, or turn your settings down if you're getting lag.

Well, quite a large amount of people are having lag/stutter/5fps and crashing right now. But the large majority of them are saying its only after they zone 3-4 times that these things happen. They also have to kill the program restart then its fine again...until they zone 3-4 times.

Alot of threads about this in the eq2 forums at sony. This is a known issue and it is being worked on.

Its a simple thing really, you zone...you zone again and the previous zone stays in memory-you zone again both other zones npcs and such are still in memory. So now you cumputor shifts into stomp the hardrive for memory resource's mode.

It isnt just people with the min 516 ram that are having this, players with 1gig and even higher are having these issue's. The good thing is that it has been said that this issue is being worked on heavily and also going on to say that if the game couldnt run on the min requirement of 1g mhz 512ram 64mb card they wouldnt have said so.

Until this problem is worked out it will be hard or even past hard to run the game on the min requirement. But have faith! they'll get it fixed and the game will be kick *** fun again o_O

just FYI, if you have an ATI radeon card and are having the gound be all kinds of funky psychadelic colors, and having the VPU stall out and overheat....update your drivers. mine was totally F$#$ed up the first day, and i updated drivers and it ran sooooo much smoother not to mention solved the funky colors and misplaced polyson screen.

If you are lagging after 3-4 zone switches and are running less than 1gig of ram might want to try a scrubber. I run 1.5gig of DDR and still use one just to keep any clutter down.

Glad to help, here's another one if you don't care for Ram Booster, both are free, but there are some out there that you can pay for that have a few extra bells and whistles.

Has anybody else experienced real lag.
I'm not talking about a bad frame rate that most people call lag. But actual lag between the input from keyboard and mouse and effect in game. On the 8th things were fine. But on the 10th or 11th after the first update download. I noticed about a 500ms delay.

Not in the mouse cursor that works sharply thank god. But when you move the mouse over buttons, it takes a half second for them to light up. And if you click them, that takes another half second.

Moving the mouse to look is effected as well. Even typing in text is effected. each character shows up about a half second after I press the key. It has been going on long enough for me to get used to it. But it is still annoying, and wasn't there at the beginning. Something they fixed screwed it up.

One way I clamped down on the swapfile crunching was to set it to an absolute size... that way windows doesn't just keep making it bigger and bigger to compensate. :)
