Is ShadowKnight a DD? Or is Berserker a better choice?Follow

I really like being the best DD job in the game most of the time, I know most games try to stay well balanced--- So if there isn't a "best" physical DD in the game then tell me which one does a big part of the DD in most PT's and uses 2H weapons please- Thank you in advance... sorry if my "lingo" doesnt sound correct, I'm used to FFXI and haven't learned the EQ thing yet :-P

EQ is not final fantasy. No DD, tank, and mage. Just mage and melee. There are variations in dmg and tanking ability, but all melee can do both jobs.

I would guessimate that berserkers are the most powerful melee DD in EQ2, while guardians are the best DA(damage absorber).

Dual weilding rangers or monks were arguably the best melee DD in EQ. Some people may disagree.

It remains to be seen how classes will unfold here in EQ2 as compared to EQ1. If they are ANYTHING alike, then we may see the following: (From quick memory of classes, might miss some new ones)

Warrior/Berserker - Meat Shield, Tank for the most part. DPS
Shadowknight/Paladin - MA in groups, SA/DPS in raids.
Monk/Bruiser - DPS (possible tank in EQ2, but I doubt it)

Templar/Inquisitor - Healer, buffer
Warden/Fury - Healer, nuker, utility
Mystic/Defiler - Healer, Mob debuffer, utility

Wizard/Warlock - Nuke DPS, Crowd Control
Illusionist/Coercer - Crowd Control, Buffer
Conjurer/Necromancer - Pet class DPS, Crowd Control

Ranger/Assassin - High DPS, Limited Crowd Control
Swashbuckler/Brigand - DPS, ???
Troubadour/Dirge - Group Buff/Mob Debuff, Crowd Control, DPS

It shall be seen, given time, how these classes unfold and what they find rolls for.

LORD, you have zero idea what the bloody hell you're talking about if you think that Rangers or Monks were the best melee DPS (That's Damage Per Second, folks, the EQ term).

gxm has a pretty decent basic summary of the different classes and their jobs. All Fighter classes can tank, all Scout classes do melee damage, all Mage classes do magic damage, all Priest classes heal. After that, there are specializations.

I think he is saying that in EQ they did the most damage, i'm not sure i agree with the duel wielding rangers, but the monks at high level could out damage any class, wizards could do a lot of damage in one burst (and then meet a very sticky end) but monks did a lot of damage fast and consistantly.

However i have heard that in EQ2 the monks are underpowered, but like anything in any MMORPG that will probably change.

No. They couldn't. Don't talk unless you actually played EQ at the high end, please.

One word for you- Rogue!

people plz it was a simple question no need to get all pissy.

as for the original topic, you will notice, based on stats, and abilities that every Fighter branch has a high damage and a high defense job.
Berserkers, Bruisers, and Shadow Knights= DD
Guardians, Monks, and Paladins= Def

mind you that these jobs accomplish their given task diffently, but are "In Theory" all balanced and vey capable.
where guardians absorb large amounts of damge, which is reduced through high AC, monks Evade more attacks due to high AGI, and paladins use their abilitys (spells) to reduce damge taken.
The same goes for the Damage Dealers Berserkers deal large hits, less often and less accuratley, Bruisers deal Moderate damge more often and more accuratly, and Shadowknights rely on abilities (spells) in order to inflict large amounts of damge.

In the end it boils down to your play style would you rather rely on your armor, stats, or skills to determine your def or damge output.
and dont be so quick to point out how different FF is from EQ2, because basic principles run throughout most RPGs MMO or otherwise.

rember
Str= power and damge
Agi= accuracy and attack speed
Find the balance needed for your class and you will unlock its full power.

And from what I've heard, raids are typically multi-mob encounters instead of a single big boss mob. So you might have a boss mob, 2 or 3 sub-bosses, then a few underlings who all have to be engaged and defeated at the same time.

Lots of room for tanks.

It'll also be a few weeks before people figure out what the pluses/minuses of all the sub-classes are (things changed in beta even during the last week accorind go reports).

Play what you think you'll enjoy playing (and that includes some role playing), if all you worry about is min/max'ing you're going to end up bitter and dissapointed.
