Spell Level questionFollow

I thought the idea of Apprentice I, II, II, IV, etc made sense until last night. I'm a lvl 14 druid and my apprentice II smite spell was light blue to me. I figured it was time to buy app level III and I'd be all set for a while. I found it in the broker search and it was light blue to me too. And I saw a Master I smite spell there and it too was light blue to me. What am I missing? If I need to get master level II or higher, I'm screwed. I can't even afford the master I version (2g,5s at broker) Thanks.

Upgrading to App 3 is huge. I have a friend making App 3's up to level 12 I believe and Im 15, so I dont waste money buying App 2's I just wait for him to make them. As a Sorcerer I could hit for 30 with App 1 Blaze +/- 5 most of the time. With App 3's I am hitting at 65+/- 5 most of the time. This was same level and the power is the same. Much more efficeint. Problem is you have to realize you can't cast as fast becasue you will break taunt of your tank.

It will still work after level 10. It just won't be as effective as an upgrade.

Apprentice 2 spells are a waste in my humble opinion. You can buy them off merchants but its better to go ahead and get all App 3's off players. After you level up past 12 a little bit you're probably want a little more spell power. Adept 1 spells would be your next step. They usually drop off mobs that your group is fighting or you can buy them from players. Check the broker in town (Qeynos Harbor or West Freeport...He's in the Blood Haze Inn in WFP). Theres about 90 pages of items on my server...mostly books for crafters and adept 1's.

BTW Adept 1's are hard to come by at the time being. I only have 6 at level 22 and that's alot to have. I still don't have the important ones like my nuke and dot's. =(

The "grade" of a spell acts as a modifier to your effective level, for casting purposes. There are four grades to each catagory (Apprentice, Adept, and Master) but not all of them are in the game yet. If you have the Apprentice 1 version in your Book, you can scribe any better versions you acquire. There are no level prerequisites for upgrades.

Apprentice I = level-1 (automatic)
Apprentice II = baseline (storebought)
Apprentice III = level+1 (crafted from common harvests)
Apprentice IV = level+2 (not yet in game. Quested?)
Adept I = level+3 (uncommon drop)
Adept II = level+4 (not yet in game. Harder quest?)
Adept III = level+5 (crafted from rare harvests, recipes are in uncommon dropped books)
Adept IV = level+6 (not yet in game. Long, difficult quest?)
Master I = level+7 (rare drop or character advancement choice)
Master II = level+8 (not yet in game. Very hard and insanely long quest?)
Master III = level+9 (crafted from very rare drops, recipes are in rare dropped books)
Master IV = level+10 (ultra-rare drop. Artifact rarity of around one per server. Not hard-limited to just one in existence, but don't expect to ever own one of these)

So, using a Master I version, you cast that spell as if you were seven levels higher than you really are. The devs balanced the game around the assumption that everyone would have App.3 spells. If you're using better, that's just gravy. Do not expect to upgrade ALL of your spells to Adepts or Masters. If you get even half of them to Adept or Master levels, you're doing very well.

Alright.. some really sweet info in this thread. Now I've seen Adept-I drops for every class but the Mage class.

Do these drop? If so where have you seen them?

This is a noobish question - but how do you make the abilities? Where in Freeport would I go to start learning to be a Sage? I went to the Coalition of Trade, but all they did was make me a scholar, I didn't learn anything.
