My First Week With The Game: ReviewFollow

Ok, as of tonight at about 9:00 PM, I will have spent one week in the game. I'd like to reflect on that last week and give a good review as to what I found good and bad about the game.

First off let me say I love it. It's seriously one of the funnest games I've ever played. I've never had an MMO that was so easy to find something to do in.

Specific things I like:

1. You get quests EVERYWHERE. My favorite is clicking on something and having it give you a quest. Like seriously, I'm in awe over that. Questing is truely a viable source of income (well, since the economy is virgin, it really is the only source of income. hehe) It's also a very viable source of experience. I've dinged atleast 3 times while questing.

2. A virgin economy. No inflated prices and people who have a gold are few and far between (although more are up there now.)

3. Leveling is fun, not really a grind. With mini dings throughout your level, it keeps things fresh. I love not realizing I'm almost at 40 or 80% and dinging and getting a new skill. It's like Christmas.

4. The game is beautiful. I'm bump maped and awsom. Seriously. Best graphics in an MMO (and almost any single player game) that I've seen to date.

Specific things I don't like:

1. Lag. I get tons of it. This game just kicks my computer's ***. It's not a bad system, but I have to log every 2 hours or so to clear the ram. I'm saving for another DIMM of ram... (yes, I suppose this is my own fault, not the games. =P)

2. Group experience debt. I like the fundamentals of the system, but I don't like it when I'm in debt for 25% of a level (has happened two times now.) Yes, you say we shouldn't die, but if you see a named, you just have to take it, don't you? =P

3. The guild system is still in development. I would've liked it to be more complete at release. You can't promote people unless they're in the same zone as you (it gives you a message that this only works in the same zone; for now.)

That's about it. The review is a bit short, but I think it encompasses my feelings about the game so far. I'm realy excited that I got in on the ground floor. I don't regret buying the game at all.

What about you? How was your first week in the game, and what are your feelings as to where this game is going?

I give it two thumbs up also. It's a lot of fun, great graphics, love the quests, and I think I'll like the tradeskills once I get it figured out, hehe.

I'm also getting a lot of lag, but that's my machine. I was too impatient, and couldn't afford the game AND a new vid card, so I got the game and I'll upgrade later Smiley: grin

My biggest complaint is the tiny amount of space we get in the bank and on our characters. I'm always running out of room for all my junk.

I agree with ya there, I cant recall how many times I've seen that "Youre Inventory is Overflowing" messege.

ok that icon.. not right.. just not right Mistress Nadenu. ^_^

anywho.. yes inventory is my only current issue.. I just make a point to carry a LOT of bags so far.

Great review. I agree with it all. I have found a few minor bugs but nothing that really effects gameplay that much. I have only had the game since last wednessday but being a 4 day weekend i put in at least 10 hours a day. I know sounds like alot but I have nothing better to do. Any other game I played this much other then EQ1 i would have been burned out by now. Now i am just waiting to get off work and get back on. Hopefully my stuff sold so that i have more silver.

Yeah, group debt can be quite annoying. Especially since you cant /disband while people are dropping like flies in your group left and right.

I lost a yellow in 2 minutes yesterday before I even made it to my groups camp spot. =\

Excellent game though, lots of other positive attributes that make up for it.

I was a norrathian traveler of the ancient times, but took hollidays for 2 years. I am really impatient to run throught norrath's woods again.

I have to agree with you on all points! I love the game. I am having fun and I have not found myself bored LFG yet. One of the things I did not like about other MMO's is that I would log on and look for a group for about an hour and then log off. I have not found a guild yet so I honestly can't comment on the guild system.

If I had a complaint it would have to be about bugs in the game. For example last night I could not accept invitations to any group. I would click "accept" and would hear the sound but would not be in the group. I was also booted out of the group once it finally did allow me in. This is a minor little glitch I'm sure and will probablly be fixed by the time I log in tonight.

All things concidered 10/10, I love it. Anyone have any links to some guild listing that includes alignment and server?

The funny thing is, I have yet to use the 'lfg' function! There's always a group forming somewhere that's advertising for members.

well i havent played for a week yet just 3 days and im already lvl 9 and have not gotten bored yet cause there is just to many quests and places to explore so far. the coolest thing so far has been the way you lvl where you hav eto actually go do big quests to unlock your next class path. like yesterday i finished my predator quest in north freeport in about 2 hours due to lag and having to find my sneak app2 skill. the quest window is sweet.

downsides are of course
1.lag
2.newbies who get hit once and take of running with the mob trailing behind them i had it happen in 2 groups last ngiht where a caster would get hit and start running around like an idiot agroing even more mobs in the way.
3.lack of loot dropping off mobs ive gotten most of my loot from finishing quests so far. i for one would like to see more money drop. like in eq1 when you went to caballis and everything you killed there dropped at least 1cp.
4. i dont know if anyone else is having this problem but when i go to click on a door or and npc i have to click like 15 times to get them to do anything. can it be due to lag or do i have a setting for my mouse set wrong?

all in all im pretty well pleased with the way its shapping up hopefully by this saturday ill be close to becoming assasin baire

that's is also my #1 complain. I understand it would be unrealistic to be able to carry 100 items with us but SOE should give us more bank space or space in our own room to store the excessive items.

Yeah, from what I understand, the speed at which you need to double click is a bit high. People complained in beta, but it hasn't been fixed yet. It's actually a combination of lag + too high double click speed.

It may sounds like crazy talk, but click a little slower. I as well thought i had to be clicking too slow even thoug hI was double-clickiung pretty damn fast. At some point I noticed that clicking slower made it actually work.

so Click ... Click instead of ClickClick.

Chatting sucks, mebbe a bug dunno but you cant chat and run at the same time unless your on auto run or follow, and if you begin to chat try to move you scroll through everything you just said in the last few minutes lol.

I agree on the log issue. If you zone alot, the game quickly becomes a slideshow. I camp to desktop and come back and it's just beautiful. That tells me there are huge memory leaks that Sony will be patching like mad as they find them or at least I really hope so.

My other compliant is how limited hotkeys and macros are. You are limited to single character hotkeys which means no /rs, /gu etc. Coming from EQ1, I miss being able to use this method.

I love how they've handled grouping and questing in combination. No more fighting over how needs the quest drop which is just wonderful. Also, being able to look at your group mates active quests is a really big step to improving people's ability to communicate and share information quickly in a MMO. Big applause for that addition.

I love the complexity of the tradeskill system. It incorporates the best features of other systems from UO, DAoC, and AC. Excellent work.

There is a setting in Options -> Controls -> Mouse Controls that controls double-click / single-click. Setting this to "Single Click except Double Click Attack" is one of the best UI customizations I've found yet. Seriously makes the whole 2x-click "bug" disappear.
