ok, i've got a fighter who's working on his tradeskills. I want to get into a guild that deals with scribing. Do i have to achieve a certain level to join or what? I've tried joining in starcrest and says i can't. A little help please

Make sure you are not a member of another society already. Not 100% certain but I believe you may only be able to be a member of one at a time. My roomate was able to join one while I could'nt, I figure since I was already a member in another one is why I could'nt join.

if you are just starting crafting then you can only join the wholesaler societies. In Freeport they are in the starting districts. talk to the person standing next to the cellar doors. Once you reach level 9 or 10 I believe (once you can pick a artisan class; sage etc.) then you are able to join the specific societies.

also as far as I know you are allowed to belong to one society and one wholesaller simultaneously, but not 2 distince societies.
