A couple of misc questions from a FFXI player...Follow

#1 Nov 14 2004 at 2:09 PM Rating: Decent
Never played EQ, only FFXI for 5 or so months. I've got a few questions if anyone could take the time...

1. How is hate determined? Is it similar to FFXI's system? I havn't had much success taunting monsters off of my groupmembers...but then again I havn't experimented extensively.

2. How is group exp determined?

3. I was a BLM on FFXI. I decided I wanted to melee and chose to be a fighter. What class/subclass combination would be most like a DRK(heavy melee damage, doesn't take dmg well)?

Thanks,
Allen

Date? wanna go out? I'm assuming you mean hate? if so it sort of works the same. Melee classes have a voke which from my experiance works better then the ones in ff11, plus you get group taunts and more affective hate keepers.

Youre group kills stuff you get xp, some mobs are marked "Group encounters" which you will need a group for and you get a bonus xp, also its not so harsh on level differance as FF11 is.

You can be a Shadownight, all melee classes can tank well. They also take damage better then a Dark Knight from FF11.

Edit: you may as well forget everything you knew in FF11

Kouranx is right on with his replies, I will add a little information though.

Yes the fighter classes (tanks) have two seperate taunts, one is a single target taunt that is like Warriors provoke in FFXI. In EQ2 however since mobs often are in groups and you fight them as such fighters have been giving an AOE (or group) taunt which targets all the mobs in the encounter. Make sure you use this one religiously as you would in FFXI (every time it is up) If there is more than one mob in the encounter use the AOE taunt or your priests and mages are going to be getting smacked around a lot. The AI is improved in this game and the mobs are more willing to go b-slap the guy that keeps negating the dmg they are doing to the tank.

As kouranx said the level difference is less strict in EQ2 than it was in FFXI. In FFXI where the general rule was +/- 2 levels. In EQ the formula is either 6 levels or 75% of highest level. In the early levels 6 levels is the general guideline but as you get higher in level you can focus more on the 75% of highest level to find your memebers. This allows for a lot more leway when finding group members. If you played EQOA it is exactly like it wss there.

Hmm, as I am a good barbarian, I don't think I'll be able to become a Shadowknight unless I do the betrayal quests. I suppose my real question is, which of the fighter classes are able to do the most melee damage? Right now it seems like the beserker would be able to. Then again, how about brawlers/paladins?

I am not sure about the specific subclass dmg. I would say berserker/brawler/shadowknight would be more dmg oriented but that is all opinion. I would check outthe class specific forums at eqii.com and everquest2.com for a better look at each class.
