For those w/ the knowldege of FFXI, what would be the equivilant of a Redmage, in EQ2 ??

Thanks!!

Red mage would be either Shaman or Druid. Shamans can heal, have great debuffs, good group buffs, can heal and can nuke. A lot closer to red mage then any of the straight mage classes in EQ2 as none of them can heal.

None off the above.

Shaman or Druid kinda comes close to the book description orf a RDM, but the major difference is that a Druid or Shaman in EQ are not valued as mp regen whores that can take away a mobs buff. Actually, if that intellect spells are still there for enchanters I'd say they fit the role of an FFXI RDM. But then again, the Endless Intellect spell lasted more than 3 minutes so an enchanter actually had a worthwhile role in a group(worthwhile: read as enjoyable). From EQL experience I'd say shaman/druid actually are jack of all trades. None of that role shifting every 5-10 lvls until you're finally defined by one single spell and job ability. Druid/Shaman can do nukes(druid orientated), DOT(shaman orientated), heal, debuff(shaman oreintated), buff(druid orientated), all pretty good.

This is assuming the two classes are pretty similar to how they were in EQL.

shaman buffs are more sought after than druid buffs in EQL.

I'd say Enchanter or Druid & Shaman, yeh. Enchanters are the chief enfeebers, come with MP-regen spells (Breeze, Clarity), Mesmerize-spells (the equivalent of Sleep, more or less) and can do magic damage in a pinch. They don't have any of the healing side of RDM. Druids & Shaman are primarily healers but second to actual Clerics in this role. They can, however, also toss out a bunch of good offensive buffs & feebs and the occasional DD in addition to good enough healing for keeping the party alive. If this is like old EQ, Shammies will focus on buffs (Mystic) and poison- & disease-type damage over time spells (Defiler) whereas Druids use direct damage (Fury) and various HP-regen spells (Warden). Druids can use scimitars and shammies spears to do some small melee damage, but it's not a primary focus of either class.

I'd say that if you liked the jack-of-all-trades part of RDM play, try a druid/fury. If you enjoyed the specialised enfeeb role, check out enchanter/coercer.

It's been a year and a half since I've played EQL. I'm surprised I remembered as much as I did correctly. :)

This is a hold over from EQ live, and is simply not true in Everquest 2. The method of healing differs from Shaman to Druid to Cleric, but they are all the same in effectiveness.

Depending on which part of the redmage you are talking about, I would have to say that the Shaman is probably the closest. He shares part of the healing redmages had, part of the damage abilities, part of the armor wearing and part of the melee ability (although to a much lesser extent).

In the end, it's probably a cross between the druid's direct damage, the shaman's debuff / armor, and the enchanter's debuffs and buffs.

Wierd... I was thinking about this the other day. As you can see, I played a RDM in FFXI. I almost had my AF... At any rate (doesn't matter now) I personally was thinking as the above poster said; it's a cross between Enchanter (crowd control / power (MP) regen) and Shaman (can heal / wear heavier armour / debuff). I personally play a cleric -> Templar in EQ2. Healing is so much more of an art in EQ2 (not WHM healing - spam spam spam, sit, spam spam spam, sit.)
