well you need a house to sell stuff also handy u can see what other players are selling too from your market board.

your mates can come in and play with yer pets with the right settings.

you can get stuff for extra storage place in the game.

the more expensive houses is for bigger space more than likely somthing thatd be shared by a guild who can then sell stuff for each other in the one house and craft stuff etc. so the whole guild can benefit than just one player

The Houses in FFXI had game play relevance...You could harvest items from plant growing, and the MOGHANCEMENTS gave bonuses depending on what element the items in Your house were aligned with...(For example, water element gave you a Fishing MOGhancement which improved this skill...)

If SOE did something like this with the housing, it would be most welcome...or the ability to set up crafting stations in your home or something.

I am happy to see that they took MANY improvements from FFXI when designing this game, however they need to tweak some things (for instance...some of the HO combinations are just weak. I am sure this among other things will be improved...would love to have a system that is as deep as the Skillchains in FF)

To put the freeport book on table you have to complete the tome quest it initiated when you opened it which will give you a new book to place in your house.

I completed the "Gnoll Mastery Quest" last night and got a trophy and another book to place in my house.

The trophy is cool; it's an axe at I can place on the wall. Very sexy. Smiley: tongue

Personally I like the housing. I'm going to be upgrading as soon as I can to one of the houses in South Qeynos (or maybe an apartment in the inn in North Qeynos first; a little cheaper.)

At any rate, much of the housing outside of the inn is not instanced, and there is a limited amount of room for non-instanced housing. So once you buy it, people can come visit your house, and not choose between you and 50 other people's houses.

Once I get a bigger house I'll have me some cocktail parties...

The housing needs an instance because you can go into people's houses and buy stuff when their shop is open, if you don't want to pay the broker's finder's fee.

The furniture at this point seems only for vanity's sake, but I can see why that annoy's the powergamers ;-)

I don't know. Personally, after level grinding and craft-grinding in FFXI, I just sort of feel like lounging in this game. Laid-back questing, crafting, and occasionally levelling. I like having a house to come back to that I can invite people into. Not everyone just wants to make hardcore level progress or race to the endgame. I'm personally on a quest to make my little apartment the swankiest party place in Qeynos. What would a virtual world with virtual cities be without virtual housing?

I love the houses, I can show off what I have collected and how much I own. Its a prestige thing and I like the way you need prestige points to own the larger houses. I want to be the largest Jeweller in the game with the fanciest house or shop...

BUT

SOE has to change the fact that the houses can't store stuff, being a crafter, I need to have room to store items to craft with as well as room to store stuff to sell. right now its cramping my style only having 6 slots with 8 sloted packs(48 total)and the bank.

And I really will have fun making a cool looking store that everyone will be talking about someday...

Now, if I remember correctly, I got the quest from one of the keeps in Antonica. It's a clicky of some sort (I think a box) and I think it's the one by the Steppe's Station.

Basically, you click a box, it gives you a book, you read the book, then collect what it wants you to collect, examining the items it wants you to examine. (The collected items are all gnoll parts; some you have to examine, some you don't.)
