I haven't found a place too buy those items yet. My crafting character though still has not left Refugee island due too other people on Innothule asking your same question. On Refuge Island I am finding abuntant sources of TIN and LEAD. I would suggest raising ones crafting there til you could go no further. Perhaps you could reroll your character if you've not leveled or gained possesions too great.

You mine those metals from the rocks in the hunting zones.

I'm pretty sure you can't even buy ores like that. You actually have to go out looking for rocks in Hunting areas. (EX: Murky Ore, Misty Rock, etc) Then you just double-click on the rock to mine it.

If things are the same as in beta, then iron is a tier2 resource. This means it will be out in the Commonlands for FP people, and Antonica for Qeynos people. It will also require a mining skill of 45+ IIRC.

you can buy the items from the wholesaler in your trading group thingy, but these are second rate and you can only make something up "shaped" quality with them (assuming it's the primary ingredient) which is fine if you're using them to make tin buckles which you'll later use for back packs.

The tradeskill system is enormously complex in this game.

Question:

Can you currently do this? I know it was like that in beta up until the last week or so, then they killed all that and people had to make their own.

There were rumors that eventually the quests you could do for the tradeskill houses would lead to the vendors selling you a larger selection which would approach the level of how it was in early beta. I haven't left the island yet due to working my TS xp up, but knowing in advance would be neat if you're willing to share. =)
