#27 Nov 20 2004 at 2:48 AM Rating: Decent
i played eq for about 2 years, off and on kind of, and ffxi for like 6 months.

imo ffxi isnt worth buying, eq is awesome but boring now and the new expasnions pretty much ruined it (you'll hear that from like anyone who have played before them). i just quit eq...again =\

eq2 looks totaly awesome. havnt seen much of WoW

Bizarre your comparing Alla message boards to Blizzards (which is by no means fair since Bliz is full of the bnetters and such and most of the normal/good gamers avoid them) but if you check out the Alla WoW message boards they are very mature posts (and some immature in a fun way ones). In your comparison you have to be careful of who you compare (Alla community against Blizzard forum bneters). If you step over to the WoW main forums everyone there will tell you to avoid blizzards forums like the plague :)

I’ll admit at first I thought EQ2 sucked.

After playing for the past two weeks now I’ve defiantly changed my opinion. I really enjoyed being able to go to Blackburrow and re discover again. I grew up there in EQ so it’s kind of like re living it all over again...only better.

Sure I had to upgrade my computer to play it but I wanted to anyway.

At this point I have nothing bad to say about EQ2 but I do agree that WoW looks like a cartoon.

I love EQ2 and I really like the realism in the graphic ... dont like the big chests coming out of beasts stomacs though;) but no matter how much "better" EQ2 graphic is to WoW graphic ... well WoW is soooo much inspierd graphic wise.. and the way it moves and play ... the colours.. the fantasy setting ... well it surpasses EQ2 by 10 times ... now that said .. it doesnt make WoW abetter game then EQ2 but it makes me a bit surorised that someone can say the graphic aint good

I've played both and wonder who leveled to 30 in a week in WoW. It probably can be done if you never stop playing. It took me over a month to get to level 45 working on trade skills and also doing the quests (of which there are a lot of and many can be done solo for useful rewards).

I find that the quests in EQ2 aren't very clear always and it's easy to get a group of 20 mobs agroed on you while you are trying to find the quest mob to kill in a certain area.

One poster said something about EQ1 vs. EQ2 feel and I have to say that I agree. The whole linked mobs make me feel like the world isn't real. It seems like most mobs just stand in groups together. In EQ1 and WoW the mobs wander around for the by and large except for a few camp areas.

The healing system sucks in comparison to WoW and is the same as in the first EQ. Basically you have to target the person to heal them which means you can't help out with DPS easily if you are a healer. In WoW you can keep your target on the mob, click on the heal button, and then click the person you want to heal. This will heal the person and you will still have the mob targeted.

In WoW if you are in a group your group mates appear in on a minimap in the top right corner of the screen. I can't say how many times I've been in a group in EQ2 where people had to run and we get separated and it takes a good 5 to 10 minutes to find each other again.

Then we come to experience. Granted it's much easier to solo in EQ2 then in EQ1, but at 1% exp per kill it can start to grate on your mind considering I'm only level 11 right now and it's only going to get worse. Wow may be a bit to fast, but I like the fact that it never feels like a grind. There is always a quest to do and if you don't get money or and item for the quest then you will at least get a good amount of exp.

One edge I give to EQ2 is the community is the more "mature", but I'd rather play a game I enjoy and not base it on weather or not I like most of the people that play it. There are lots of people I grouped with in WoW and I had a ball and that leads to another thing with grouping. In EQ2 the death penalty is harsh so people will be more likely to group with x player that they know and trust and alienate the rest of the people.

Graphics go to EQ as they are quite nice though I haven't liked the fight animations in battle. They don't look like anything special. The casters spells do look nice in combat though and the healing effects look good. The world looks beautiful no doubt. That said I don't base my game on graphics.

The user interface in EQ and WoW are very similar as is buying spells/skills. I feel the WoW one was easier to use, but not by much.

In the end I will probably play both, but I will play WoW a lot more at least for now as the fun factor is higher for me.

The way I see it, WoW is going for the Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft players that like PVP and trash talking. Fast, quick hectic battles that end before you know it.

EQ2 on the other hand has more of an RPG feel to it even if they did speed up battle a bit and you are now required to twitch a little more.

To each his own.

DruidOfEq:
If you are close to the mob and attacking, clicking on a group member will not stop you from attacking the mob. You will still swing and hit. If you want to cast a spell on it, you do need to retarget.

PS: I am in no way saying that WoW players are rude twitchers that just want to PVP and have lower IQ's. My friend, sitting here, said he got that from reading my post. I just want to clerify that for anyone that may think that was my intention.

Sorry for mentioning this but if a same type of thread like this was posted in the WoW forums all I ll see is cursing and flaming...... Quite dissapointing indeed. (Just my 2 cents)

The WoW is actually pretty nice, not that much flamming and cussing (unless ff players entered the discussion)

Now try, and post that on the FFXI forums, and see the responses you recieved

(btw, if you are wondering why my karma is so low, i had recently came from FFXI, nuff said)

Played both but EQ2 beats out WoW imo.

It comes down to which game is more fun to play over 2-5years. WoW just does not have the depth to keep me interested for long.

It is just too simple (hence the player average age).

EQ2 will keep me discovering new areas/mobs/weapons/recipes for a LONG time.

I've played EQ since its Beta 3, FFIX, WoW Open Beta.

I want to get EQ2 and at least try it, but I'm not quite sure my system can handle it. I just bought a house so major upgrades aren't doable for me.

With that in mind I think I'll be playing WoW since I won't have a ton of time on my hands and can't upgrade a new computer. But I played enough of WoW to know that as a casual gamer, I can still realistically reach high levels in a few months as opposed to a year in EQ2. I know that I can solo as a Paladin and not have a 1 in 10 chance of succeeding. I can spend a my time questing intead of grinding, traveling intead of camping, etc. I love the mining system in WoW, I live the mini-map and I was never a PvPer before, but I love the Good vs. Evil aspect of the game in that there is a point to fighting. And WoW does have its carebear servers as well.

So my opinion is that I'd play both, just don't have the time or money to put into EQ2 so I play WoW.

I am playing EQ2. I will be playing WoW too.

EQ2 well surpasses WoW in looks. However that's ok because WoWs graphics are perfect for the game. They look and feel much like all of the Warcraft games and that's perfect.

Gameplay? Both are soloable and fun. The pacing is similar but interaction is different.

My only gripe with Warcraft is all of the Bnet kiddies I'll have to endure (and had to endure in the betas). But I'm not too worried about those as they'll be gone within a month or two when they realize they can't "hack" the game to make themselves uber and stomp on others in PVP. They'll actually have to work for it and that'll weed a lot of them out.

I enjoy both games and will have fun in both. EQ2 and EQ1 are two totally different games and yes I still play EQ1 (i'm a sad sad person!!). Comparing the two is apples and oranges so I won't even go into them.
