why only 24 ppls in a raid?Follow

I personally think EQ 1 is fun to play because you can raid with 72 ppls. It really can test how well the raid leader manage to kill some 20k-30k HP mobs. I really enjoy it.

But also I do think 72 ppls were kinda too many. can narrow it down a bit. but would 24 too less? I would say 30-36 ppls be better.

I kinda like the new system. 72 was more of a zerg rush. It required organization, but once it got started, it just became a beast of its own.

With only 24 people, each person will have to know their role much better. It's more of a make or break situation. There's less people who can perform the roles, and I'm sure the mobs will not be easy.

I like the smaller numbers also.. this means other "smaller" guilds might have a chance at killing some of the higher end mobs. I just never could get into the you must be this tall to ride state of mind that EQ 1 guilds had.. Also remember this is the building blocks of eq 2.. They are starting small and working their way up.. Im shure If eq 2 follows in eq 1's foot steps you will have your 30-40k hp mobs that hit for 14k a round.. and require 150 people to kill.. <god help us i hope this dosent happen but im scared>

well yeah, maybe you're right. with 24 ppls in a raid, its very hard to finish the HOs already.

but I think I will miss those 72+ ppls raid. its fun

The maximum number of PC's allowed in a raid also gives the Encounter Design Team a cap to code for.

Rather than heaping on hitpoints and other gimmick coding, they can say "OK, we are designing this raid for levels 20-25. Worst case scenario for the bad guy is a full raid of level 25's, so that is what we need to make it a challenging creature for.".

They don't have to guess how to make the uber bad guy survive in a raid setting, as they know exactly how many folks of what level will be able to show up.

It will make for more challenging encounters that are also more balanced (in theory, lol). This way the designers don't have to make every creature in the game have a billion hit points so they can survive a few rounds against an Uber Guild.

I'm sure they optimized it @ 24 for performance reasons. I seriously doubt that many systems out there could handle more than that just from a hardware point of view.

Since they designed the game with future video hardware in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if this number went up (along with harder raids) as newer video cards and processors come out.

zerg

most encounters in EQ, outside of PoT, the GoD expansion, and some of OoW can be done with 2 well equipped and experienced groups - a third can come along for safe measure.

I despise zerg raids, no skill present in those, it's just a blind run.
