Help Me Pick My Race/Class ! (Free.... Something?)Follow

#1 Nov 11 2004 at 11:30 PM Rating: Decent
Allright - on the phone with my friend and we decided the easiest way to pick what I want too be would be letting Gamefaqs decide.

I have picked one of each of the main archetypes I would like to be and put it here, whichever gets the most votes by the end of the night, I shall be.

Kerra Fighter ---> Brawler ---> Monk
---------------------------------------------------
Dark Elf Mage ---> Sorcerer ---> Warlock
---------------------------------------------------
Iksar Priest ---> Shaman ---> Defiler
---------------------------------------------------
Troll Scout ---> Rogue ---> Brigand
---------------------------------------------------
Iksar Mage ---> Summoner ---> Necro
---------------------------------------------------

Okay I added a 5th one... but I wanted more choices... Free karma giveaway... and uh... you'll gain... a signed Bobby Bonilla rookie card !

I was gonna let it slide - but then you had to respond with something completley idiotic.

You show YOUR lack of intellegence and maturity by feeling the need to verbally bash somebody for no reason. Wow - I was trying to find out some information, freaking is it that big of a deal that I didnt edit out one word? Whats that? No, no it isnt.

This site is FREE - and its used so people can have FUN and get information - which is what I was trying to accomplish before you came.

i think he was calling you a dumbass for going to the gamefaq's forums for advice..

then again, why don't you pick what you wanna play? no point in being the best player if you have to stare at your ogre's *** the whole time.

Great way to be an ******* RPZip. Really, I bet you impressed all your Junior High friends with that.

Anyway. Don't let anyone decide what you want to be. Cliche maybe, but this game is mainly for you to have fun. Your race/class isn't for someone else to decide, but for you to decide.

Thanks Briam and Fallacist -

Choosing a character is something I've had a ongoing problem with, mainly because its a huge decision. So many people know when they get the game exactly what they want too be... I've never been one of those people.

In EQ 1 I played a human monk up to level 55 before I retired, along with countless other low-level classes... when I went to FFXI, I started with an Elvaan mage, and then went to a Human Paladin eventually, however, FFXI's.... erm... choices, were so limited compared to what EQ II has...

If I can figure out what race/class fits me best I'll truley be happy, its a shame right now I am not even playing because until I figure this out, it wont be fun too me... I know its strange.

When I got the game I wanted to be a Iksar Monk... but I didnt realize you had to do the betrayal quest... and Iksar models seem... slightly strange in this game for whatever reason.

Maybe I'm going about this wrong.. if I figure out what class I ultimatley want too be - that may help me pick a race...

Ive had a couple of my friends say they think I should go Fighter or Scout because they think I fall into that role alot better than I do of say a Caster. They think my personality just... "fits" better into one of those... I just love information ultimatley, but for whatever reason the message boards for EQ II havent really taken off yet, on any of the sites I visit, I guess people are just too busy playing the game, which is awsome !

I guess I like reading other peoples expieriences... and going from there, but maybe I just need to sit down and figure it out.

Now I'm all offended, Briam. You hurt me, man. You hurt me deep.

Grow the hell up and get over it.

As to the OP; Race doesn't matter even a little bit. Class is a matter of personal choice. I'd pick a melee class, but that's just me.

EDIT: What, you think that having someone else pick for you will make you happier with it?

You can always be an Iksar Brawler without doing the betrayal quest.

No - someone choosing for me wont make me happier with it, but peoples opinions will give me an idea on what I'm looking for...

As far as the Brawlers go, I heard that they were much more... not sure of the word.... different than Monks.... nobody I talked too has played a Brawler or a Monk...

They're very similar, but slightly more offensively oriented.

As I recall though, both Monks and Brawlers are pretty underpowered at the moment in EQ2. Expect a buff for them soon.

I guess I'm confused as to why they made it so you HAVE too go with one of the more advanced type classes... I mean, why cant I just be and stay a Rogue if I wanted?

I guess I understand the logic, it just branches out and each "upgrade" is a more powerful version....

Part of me wants to be a mage because, well, I've never DONE a mage for a very long period of time. I just dont know if Mage's will be fun to play in EQ II.

In EQ I it seems Melees had much better equipment to up their stats and overall looks...

I just have never played a game from launch where nobody really knows whats going on, so its something totally new... I just dont want to be gimped !

I love that EQ 2 races and classes arent already set in stone like in FFXI. Where automatically the best Thief is a Mithra with leaping boots, valk. emp pin, and subjobs Ninja. It just had your whole game time set and planned for you, which wasn't fun at the least. I have yet to decide what I want to be in this game being i still need to go buy my new vid card, which could be anywhere from tomorrow, to 3 weeks from now. Just sucks to be staring at the Collectors edition box =(

However, if I were you, I'd go with melee class, and Monk. I'm going to be a Monk or whatever the dark version of it is. Why? Because they could solo well in EQ1, and in FFXI were very underestimated, while they did nuts amounts of damage. Long live the Monk I say :)

Hope that helps.

not to start a debate, or bring up other games and old arguements. (i was gonna say this before i saw the post above mine anyway):

when ffxi first came out mithra was the posterchild for thf. But no one expected elvaan to bring the competition. but sure enough 60+ your average elvaan was usually outdamaging your average mithra. mithra hit 0's for Dot, where as all elvaan needed was 1 hp to gain tp. Also Dancing edge has a CHR modifier, which elvaan had more of than mithra. and blah blah blah blah~

My point is, what might seem like the ideal race based on stats alone for a job, might not be the best one in the longrun. But you'll never know, so go and play what you like, and maybe you'll be the one who ends up paving the way for the anti-race for your class.

Gamaray; helps if you've been posting since '01, when the uBB boards came out.

Lol. Well I won't debate over which race in FFXI was better over the other. But what I'm getting at is that your equipment was already pre-determined. Your parties usually demanded you have Emp. Pin and Leaping Boots. Other things like subjob quest, AF quests, and level cap quests all were set in stone on how to do them. Things like parties are also set, where you didn't want a DRG over a RNG as your main damage dealer, etc.

All I'm pointing at is, EQ2 is like Lewis and Clark setting out on their expidition of the U.S. We won't know what's out there until we find it.
