Is it true you can get mounts by doing different quests in certain zones? My friend has several but she forgot how she got them becasue she got them a while back. Can someone confirm that and how I would search to see what I needed to do in certain zones to get them?

You can get nifty horses running the starting quest lines in Tim Deep, Kelethin and New Halas. The quest lines are fun and the horses have different appearances. Check out the zone timelines here on Zam.

I"m a little behind on Station Cash Mounts, but here's a dandy guide: Mounts (EQ2)

You're specifically looking for this one: Category:Quested Player Mounts

Happy questing!

If you're just looking for the easiest and quickest mount to get, every month one of the cities holds a fair for the first week or so. As i type this, its currently active at the docks outside Gorowyn in Timorous Deep(the in game calender or the updates on this site around the first can help you keep up with which city is next). One of the regular features of the fairs over the last year has been an Aether Race. As part of a quest, a gnome puts you on a temporary flying hoverpad, and you have a few mins to complete a lap around the course. The longest of the 6 courses takes like 3/4s of the time they give you to finish, so you shouldnt have too much trouble getting through. For finishing the race, you get the xp from doing a quest your level and a token you can spend on stuff for sale by the fair vendors. If you finish the race fast enough(time varies by course) you get a title(each course has its own). And if you run the race 5 times(might have to be in a single session - i always did this with consecutive runs) they give you a non-flying and non-temporary hoverpad for free. Therefore if its the beginning of the month, any character can have a new ground mount regardless of their level in less then half an hours time(and thats including travel time to get to wherever the fair currently is from wherever you currently are).

With that said though, Calthine's link to the quested mounts page is a good one to remember, as you will eventually want some of the others as well.

Happy hunting!

Someone showed (and helped) me get the Raptor in BB (I did not see that listed in the links I got) I am wondering if there are other zones I should be getting mounts in and how I look them up. (That Raptor can get some serious air time LOL) I also want to get mounts for my younger toons.

That page could probably use a minor update. The "quest mounts" page has the raptor is on there, but its at the bottom of the page called out by name(horned mountain saliraptor) and not specifically highlighted toward the top. The general mount page has them sorted into categories, and if you dont know what youre looking for it could take a minute to figure out.

As for other mounts, there are many. Every starting area(feydark, timorous, darklight and frostfang) has a horse mount(they all look different too) to be earned. If you follow the quest lines from the start and go long enough the mount will be yours naturally. The quests for these are normally right around level 13 or so. As i pointed out above, hoverpads can be earned at level 1 if the city fair is active(though, quest xp and exploration xp will probably be enough to push you to level 3 or 4, even if youve done nothing else).

As for non-ground mounts, the raptors are available at level 30 in butchersblock, as you discovered. There are gliding komodo mounts at level 60 to be found in tenebrous tangle. And the flying griffin mounts arrive at level 85 in great divide(the quest to grant a fae or arasai true flight is also level 85, and located not too far away if memory serves). There are also crafter versions of all these mounts available from roughly the same places(often standing just a few feet away), though the crafter packhorse comes from a butchersblock crafting quest.

Later on you can find carpet mounts(sinking sands quest), cloud mounts(general overrealm quest series), warg mounts(loping plains quest series), rhino mounts(fens of nathsar quest series), a timber wolf mount(great divide quest series), almost all(possibly all) of the in game holiday festivals have an associated mount that can be quested for or bought, plus there are dozens and dozens of variations on these overall themes available to be purchased in various cities and on various factions. Also there are plenty of vanity mounts on the marketplace(i think of them this way since theyre mostly just special looking versions of other mounts you can already get, usually with minor stat boosts), and pretty much every booster set of cards for the legends of norath game has a chance of a mount appearing as a loot card(though this is likely the most frustrating way to try getting a mount, as loot cards are random and somewhat rare).

In the end, thats a lot of mounts to choose from.

There are several different mount quests. There are even some that are specific to crafters. Here's a link to a page that has some of the mount quests listed. You'll just have to scan through it to find the ones you want: http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=q1&menustr=060000000000

The mounts page(s) got really hard to keep updated as SOE added more and more and then changed all their names! They're also problematic because in our SOE data they're "charms," not "mounts" so you can't do a database search. All mounts are categorized by wiki categories, which helps if you want to see which you can quest, or which you can get with Station Cash.

BTW, anyone with a ZAM login can edit our guides, if you'd like to update any of those!

PS: There are 313 mounts categorized on our wiki, and I know I'm behind on Station Cash and Dungeon Maker mounts. It's on a to-do list
